Magna Carta of Women

Objective of the Law emphasize the right of women and institutionalizes the
substantive equality of men and women.

-Equal opportunities for women but also their empowerment

Magna Carta of Women mandates the State to:

1. Abolish the unequal structures and practices that perpetrate


discrimination and inequality to women
2. Revise gender stereotypes and images in educational materials and
curricula
3. Eliminate discrimination of women in the military, police and other similar
services
4. Protect the rights of Moro and indigenous women t practice, promote and
preserve their own culture, traditions, and institutions which are
discriminatory to women
5. Increase the number of women participating in discussions and decision-
making in the peace process including membership in peace panel
6. Ensure the development and inclusion of womens welfare and concerns in
the peace agenda
7. Give special consideration for the specific needs of women in conflict-
affected communities
8. Adopt measures to: #
a. Protect girl-children from all forms of abuse and exploitation
b. Eliminate all forms of discrimination against gir-children in
education, health and nutrition and skills development
c. Ensure equal access of Moro and indigenous girl-children in the
Madaris, school of living culture and traditions and regular schools
d. Develop gender-sensitive curriculum and books
e. Ensure the sensitivity of regular schools to particular Moro and
indigenous practices (halal food, Ramadan)

RIGHTS OF WOMEN

1. Equal rights in all matters relating to marriage and family relations


2. Right to be protected from all forms of violence
3. Right to be protected in times of disasters, calamities and other crisis
situations
4. Right to participation and equitable representation in all spheres of society
5. Right against dismissal or expulsion from school due to pregnancy out of
wedlock
6. Right to health
7. Right to special leave benefits
8. Right against discriminatory and derogatory portrayal in media and film
9. Right to decent work
10.Right to resources for Food Production
11.Right to livelihood, credit, capital and technology
12.Right to Education and Training
13.Right to information
14.Right to Housing
15.Right to representation and participation in policy-making body

Rights of Women in Especially Difficult Circumstances

Women in Especially Difficult Circumstances- refers to victims and survivors


of

a. sexual and physical abuse,


b. illegal recruitment,
c. prostitution,
d. trafficking,
e. armed conflict,
f. women in detention,
g. victims and survivors of rape and incest
h. other related circumstances which have incapacitated them functionally

-Mandates LGU to deliver the following services

temporary and protective custody


medical and dental services
psychological evaluation
counselling
psychiatric evaluation
legal services
productivity skills capability building
livelihood assistance
job placement
financial assistance
transportation assistance
