THE CL A IM/
SLOGAN
THE CLAIM EAT STRONG, BE HEALTHY

Eat Strong - Protein helps the body

regrow tissue and helps bones,
muscles, cartilage and skin to grow
and repair. They also help to make
enzymes, hormones and other
chemicals inside the body. The oats
in an Energoats bar provide a low-
release of carbohydrates. This
means that you can go without food
for longer and still have energy.
THE CLAIM EAT STRONG, BE HEALTHY
Eat Strong Fat in oats is a source of
the essential fatty acid, Omega 3.
This is needed for a healthy heart.
Fibre is important for a healthy
digestive system and can help
prevent heart disease, diabetes and
weight gain. Vitamins and minerals
are essential for growth and the
function of our bodies. We cannot
make them so we have to get them
from food. We cannot survive
without water. Our body is made up
of approximately 60% of water, so
we must drink 2 litres a day to stay
healthy.
THE CLAIM EAT STRONG, BE HEALTHY

Be Healthy - The oats in an

Energoats bar have a low-release
speed of carbohydrates. This
means that you can go without food
for longer and still have energy.
Carbohydrates give the body
energy, and without energy, you
cant exercise for very long.
THE CLAIM EAT STRONG, BE HEALTHY

My claim should make, for example, an unfit

person who wants to lose weight, think about
whats in their food. Be Healthy will get peoples
attention if they have goals to lose weight or
want to improve their overall health. My slogan
may make them change diet so that they are in
control of what theyre consuming.

ENERGY CONTENT

If you buy some food, usually food

sold in packets or boxes, then it
will have an energy content table
on the back. This is vital as the
consumers need to know what is
in their food and how healthy it is.
Foods may contain too many
sugars or too many fats. It Is vital
to keep a balanced diet by eating

ENERGY CONTENT
A scientific experiment can be carried out
to investigate the energy content of a
food.
Pour cold water into a test tube and then
record the temperature of the water.
Record the mass of the food sample
before piercing it with a needle.
Place the food above a flame until it
catches fire.
Heat the water using the flame from the
burning piece of food.
Once the flaming piece of food has gone
out, record the final temperature of
the water.
Finally, use the equation on the left to
find the energy content of the food.

T H E AT WAT E R S Y ST E M
The Atwater System was developed by Wilbur Atwater in the late 19 th century in
the USA. He formulated a calculation to measure the available energy of foods.
Atwater measured the heat of combustion of proteins, fats and carbohydrates.
Available energy = (Gross energy in food) (Energy lost in bodily secretions and
gases)
Based on his work, the energy content of foods was calculated by using :
4kcal/g for carbohydrates and protein, and 9kcal/g for fats.
Modified versions of this system are used today are used today by scientists.

DIET
A BALANCED DIET

The Oxford English Dictionary

Balanced Diet
noun
noun: balanced diet; plural noun: balanced diets
A diet consisting of a variety of different types of
food and providing adequate amounts of the
nutrients necessary for good health.

Food Pyramid
A BALANCED DIET
To keep a healthy diet, you need to
eat safe amounts of each nutrients,
so each one balances the others
out. A balanced diet is necessary as
the bodys organs and tissues need
the correct nutrition. If we dont,
the body will become exhausted
and may develop diseases and
infections. This table shows how
much of each nutrient an adult
should eat per day.
A BALANCED DIET
A unhealthy diet can cause many
different diseases or other mass
effects on the body, such as obesity,
dependant on what is consumed too
much, or what is lacking in a diet.
Obesity Caused by eating to much,
not burning off the calories and
moving little. To prevent obesity:
1. Eat more fruit, vegetables and
nuts.
2. Exercise, for at least 30 minutes a
day
3. Cut down your intake of fats and
sugars during meals.
4. Use vegetable-based oils rather
than animal-based fats.

A BALANCED DIET
Type 1 Diabetes eating too many
sweet foods causes the immune
system to destroy insulin, a
hormone that helps use sugar as
energy in the body. Without it, sugar
levels in the blood get too high, so a
healthy weight is vital, as is keeping
your blood pressure sugar and
cholesterol levels as close to the
numbers your doctor gives you.
Heart disease Heart disease is
caused by fats in foods. It was the
biggest killer in Australia in 2011,
triggering 15% of the deaths. The
best ways to avoid heart disease is
to have a healthy diet, keep your
blood pressure under control, and if
you do, give up smoking.
A BALANCED DIET
Iron Deficiency Iron deficiency is
the most common nutritional
deficiency and leads to a reduction
of red blood cells causing anaemia
and fatigue amongst many other
symptoms.
Iron is found in:
Red meat and poultry,
Dark green leafy vegetables such as
spinach, cabbage and spring
greens.
Seafood,
Dried fruit.
Many cereals, breads and pastas are
fortified with iron and other
vitamins and minerals.
A BALANCED DIET
Osteoporosis is caused by a lack of
calcium in the diet. A hunch back
is a classic sign that someone
has osteoporosis as the bones
become thin, weak and fragile
and tiny fractures form in the
vertebrae of the spine.
To help prevent osteoporosis, a diet
rich in calcium should be eaten.
This helps to protect the bones.
Calcium can be found in dairy
products, nuts, leafy greens and
fish.

Protease break down the protein in

Lipase will break down fats and oils

The inner walls of the small

intestines are lined with villi, little
fingers that jut out from the sides.
These are covered in microvilli,
microscopic hairs that catch the
