Monday 1st May 2017

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am applying for the position of Graduate Associate Erasmus &
Study Abroad, as advertised on The Solent Jobs Website, as I have
experience and interest in the employability field and helping
graduates get the best start from their degree.

I have currently finished my BA Honours in International tourism

management at Southampton Solent university, 2017. This course
encompasses a wide range of sectors; such as hospitality, tourism
and management. As part of my course I studied abroad for a year
in Canada and Finland, learning more about other cultures,
environments, geographical standards and business methods.
Having studied abroad, I can relate to international students needs
and viewpoints, having been in similar situations abroad myself.

Over three years, I have gained many transferable skills including

being adapt with Microsoft packages, being customer service
focused, presenting presentations, time management, organisation
and sharpening my ability to work both as part of a team and
independently. I can also see the importance of social media as a
multi functional tool for business and students alike.

In addition to this, I attended summer school in China, in response

to an offer from Southampton Solent university, that was available
to two students. Out of hundreds of applicants who had to write a
summary of why they should be selected and supplied with a
recommendation from their professor, I was awarded a place and
feel I grew a large amount from the experience in terms of personal
development.

I have completed an Introduction into Psychology degree with the

Open University and a Business course with the learning training
provider PETA, studying business structure, organisational
behaviour, team behaviour, Branding, Report writing, Marketing and
communication. Both on a national and international scale, as such I
understand the importance of data protection and upholding a
positive company image at all times.

I volunteer regularly and have done for many years, I have

volunteered for many companies including the Hampshire Home
Library Service, Citizens Advice Bureau, Sue Ryder and Blue Cross to
name a few. The skills I have acquired in the roles, include customer
handling and service, health and safety, procedural regulations,
being adapt with money and self organisation, also strong
communication skills with a variety of people at all levels.

In addition to this, I have worked for, Southampton Solent University

as a Student Ambassador, where communication skills both on and
offline, working as part of a team, time management and being
adaptable to varied events are key to the role.
Overall, I feel it must be understood that on a personal level; self
assessment, revaluation and improvement are a necessity.
Especially in industries that are constantly evolving; with the advent
of technology, new global markets and changing consumer values,
which are the fields that many graduates from the university will be
going into.

I understand you will have large amounts of correspondents to sort

through, so thank you for taking the time to read my covering letter.

Yours respectfully,

Ryan Kenneth Selwyn.
