Technology Enhanced Blended Learning Lesson Plan

Lesson Title: Feeling zen with ten.

Context: This lesson was created to introduce students to the act of adding and subtracting
natural numbers 1 through 10 and different strategies of how to do so. This lesson will be taught
after learning how to count from 1 to 100 and before learning how to measure items using the
numbers they have learned.

Objectives: Students will be able to add and subtract numbers 1-10 using their fingers.
Students will be able to draw pictures of adding and subtracting numbers 1-10.

State Standards: K.ATO.1 Model situations that involve addition and subtraction within 10
using objects, fingers, mental images, drawings, acting out situations, verbal explanations,
expressions, and equations.

Materials: Tablets, YouTube, Addition & Subtraction for kids app, Kahoot.

Procedures: Introduction- I will start with our morning stretches (the zen) to get our brains and
bodies ready to learn. We will then watch a fun YouTube about subtraction to introduce the
concept of take away. Once the take away concept is learned, well move on to put
together.
Practice- Students will practice what theyve learned about take away and put together by
playing in small groups with the app, Addition and Subtraction for kids. I will spend 5-7
minutes with each group to ensure all my students are understanding the content.
Wrapping up- Once students practice time is up, we will have another zen session to cool down
our brains. Students will put their knowledge to the test by working with their groups and
compete with the class on a game of Kahoot. I will pick a group leader who will be in charge of
selecting the correct answer on their tablet. The Kahoot game will consist of 6 questions (3
addition and 3 subtraction). The winning group will each get one small lollipop as a prize.

Rationale:
YouTube video: The video is called Subtraction song for kids by Jack Hartmann. While this
particular song only addresses subtraction, the general knowledge of having a certain amount and
manipulating it in some way is still there. It is a fun and upbeat song that will likely get the
students dancing in their seats, have them laughing, and make the learning experience a lot of
fun.
Addition and Subtraction for kids app: This is a fun app that can assess if a student is grasping
the concept of addition and subtraction. The app uses animals with its problems, just as the
YouTube video did. The visual of the animals on the screen is a good way to help young children
who are more visual learners.
Kahoot game: The game of Kahoot is a fun way for the students to learn about fair competitions
with others. Being a group leader will also teach students about responsibility because they will
have to listen and value the input of their team and pick the correct answer on their tablets before
time runs out. The groups that did not win will learn about being gracious losers and trying
harder next time.
