More cliches again! French do perfumes and Spaniards do parties! The Golden age of
Grasse, known has the city of perfumery, was so in the late 16 and 17 centuries. It was
at that time the reference. They improved techniques of the perfumery art that
Catherine de Medici brought with her from Italy. Grasse was producing a great variety of
essential oils and was leading the market. By tradition, many companies from our
industry have settled there. But today Grasse is no longer the city of perfumery despite
all the publicity done on the small plantations of rose and jasmine. But that is clear, they
are very good in marketing!

They operate in selective and niche fine fragrances as well as in fashion with
Nina Ricci & Carolina Herrera. They have recently celebrated 100 years. They
own also Carolina Herrera, Penhaligons in niche. In 2015 data, Puig represents 8.4% of
the market. Their objetive is to reach 12% by 2020.

Jean-Paul Gaultier is their latest acquisition in selective fragrances meanwhile they have
an agreement with Paco Rabanne since 1968. They launched Paco Rabanne first

World n1 in the fast fashion industry before H&M. Inditex turnover in 2016 was 23.27
billion dollars and H&M was 21.17 billion dollars. In 2015, H&M was still number one
and Inditex number 2. They own the brands: Zara, Zara Home, Massimo Dutti, Bershka,
Stradivarius, Oysho, Pull & Bear and Uterqe. The latest objectives is to give access to
online sales to more countries and they have entered the Chinese market in 2016. Today
they have 1923 stores in 88 countries.

Around 80% of the production is exported. 3,500 hectares are dedicated to the aromatic
plants. Local government is pushing and supporting this industry with a notable 25%
increase in plantation the last 5 years. We should add to these figures the surface that
occupies the citrus industry.

The 1st worldwide producer is Argentina. Cristobal Colombus brought Citruses to the
Americas back in the 15th century. This season production are citruses is estimated to 7-
million tons in Spain (2 millions in Murcia regin). The region produces apart from
Lemon essential oil, grapefruit, Mandarin, Clementine and orange essential oils. Part of
it being organic too.

Back in the 19th century started the relationship with our regin and its essential oil
producers. In 1989, the business relationship of both cities was officialised becoming
twin cities. Delegations of Grasse perfumers still visit our region today. Last trip
was in January 2017. Dealers in essential oils from Grasse offer in their range
essential oils from Murcia.
Not only French perfumers are regular users of our essential oils. Upcoming visit
to our region will be from the German Association of Perfumers in May 2017.
They will visit producers of natural raw materials as well as our company. The
Head of the delegation is from famous company Henkel.

Takasago operates in Murcia. The Japanese company is in the TOP 10 of our industry.
They own a factory working on aromatic plants and a R&D laboratory working on new
molecules for their in-house perfumers worldwide.
Dhler is a German company specialised in flavours. They have an agreement with one
of the biggest producer of citruses in the region that sell 100% of its productioon of
citruses essential oils to this company.
And of course, Iberchem.
