Annotated Bibliography for GMOs

The Media and Genetically Modified Foods

The media over displays how genetically modified foods can be bad
for consumers. This influx in media coverage about the cons of
genetically modified food has consumers already having inferior
preconceived ideas about GMOs. The more coverage about how
genetically modified food affect consumers poorly will translate into
people risk perceptions increasing.

The information will be helpful to debate about how media coverage

helps push the legislation to pass regarding modified food. Use quotes
of how the media portrays GMOs in a substandard way, then the
possibility for change in legislation will occur.

I found the article from FSU library using peer-reviewed articles. The
article presents a lot of information about risk perceptions of society
about GMOs.

Genetically Modified Foods: Breeding Uncertainty

The uncertainty that pertains to the genetically modified food is what the
repercussions of using them are. The transfers are genes are a dynamic
process, each trial produces a different outcome. These transfers effect
consumers from using protein genes to boost the food nutrition in futile
regions. Protein genes directly correlate to allergens that can be transmitted
to consumers.

I can use the argument about how genes are unpredictable and can cause
harm to humans if the gene react differently. I could exemplify the idea how
these uncertainties should give us ample reasons to establish a standard of
what is acceptable dealing with GMOs.

I found the article from FSU library using peer-reviewed articles. The
article presents a lot of information about GMOs. The author, Charles
W. Schmidt, editor, scientist, and non-GMO advocate. Charles has
written several academic journals dealing with the environment.
Labeling of Genetically Modified Food
Recent studies have shown that eighty to sixty percent of food in the US
uses a genetically modified method, but does not label. The backlashes of
the GMO market it hurts the farmers livelihood of not competing with the
mega-corporations that how money to invest in GMOs seeds. The effect of
GMOs in making infants become allergic to nuts, milk, and other food that
makes them allergically susceptible to. The genetically modified food
usually has higher fat content, sugar, and sodium levels that can create
problems in the future like diabetes for example. The future outlook on
GMO labeling is not good, the precedent set by corporations that lobby
against the idea probably will not allow a nationwide GMO labeling system
to be in effect and the FDA does not seem to change their ability to enforce
stricter laws for GMOs to get pushed onto your local supermarket stores.

I would use the idea of how GMOs labeling not occurring because of capital
gain. Describe the reasons behind why companies do not want labeling on
their food products be revealed to the rest of the population.

The source is peer-reviewed from FSU library and involves massive

amounts of research from the scientist. The author the Anton Wohlers has
published numerous scientific journals regarding about GMOs international.

Health Risks of Genetically Modified Foods

The article focuses on how genetically modified food can cause harm, but
the information will not be shown in the media. In the European Nations
they have set guidelines for food that have genetically modified genes, but in
the US there is little to no regulations set in place. The biochemistry of genes
in the plants or animals only controls certain parts of the organisms. Each
time a plant has been modified it is unpredictable about how it will turn out.
Due to these unstable results, each plant is unpredictable.

I would use these ideas to help build a solid argument on how the lack of
research cannot state that GMOs are not harmful for consumption.

The article credibility is peer-reviewed from the FSU library and many
prestigious scientists helped develop their concepts about genetically
modified foods.
Genetically Modified Food Labeling: A Right to Know?
Genetically modified food does provide some pros in situations of pest
resistant and drought resistant crops. These benefits do help some
developing countries, but the unknowns about the true safety of consuming
GMOs is still up for debate. The USDA has 2 years to decide about what
type of action will be implemented in the labeling of GMOs. Who will win,
the consumers? Or the companies?

I could use this article to develop about the future of genetically modified
food. I would use the information to speculate if labeling will be available if
the USDA decides that consumers show know what they are consuming.

The article credibility is peer-reviewed from the FSU library. A lot of

information about what is going to occur in the future dealing with GMOs.

FDA's Troubling Failures to Use its Authority to Regulate Genetically Modified Foods
The article discusses the FDA lack of using its authority to support the
public desire to see strict laws on GMOs be set in place. The issue that arises
from the idea of genetically modified food is the risk to the consumers,
socioeconomic dilemmas dealing with modified food, and the idea about
how regulation needs to be present in the discussion of GMOs. There is little
no regulation dealing with genetically engineered food that needs to be
addressed in United States. The lenient FDA does not seem to analyze the
problems of how GMOs can affect people.

I would use this article to tackle the problem of no regulation that is being
set by the FDA. I would express how I think this has to do with companies
opening their wallets so no action will be taken.

The article comes peer-reviewed from FSU library. The academic journal
presents a solid question of how the FDA doesnt control anything in the
GMO market in the US?

Genetically Modified Foods at the Intersection of the Regulatory Landscape and Constitutional
Jurisprudence
Genetically modified food has certain advantages in the how it can produce
constant yields, but not in the health issues that arises from it. The article
tries to describe the groundworks of how GMOs are not being regulated in
the US. The confusion of multiple companies that are not making any
progressions in trying to make GMO to be stricter in the growth progress,
genes distributions, and how to see if it is truly safe.

This article I would use to describe how most of the companies are not even
caring to deal with GMOs (FDA,USDA). I would like to explain why I think
they do not care about changing the laws.

The article comes peer-reviewed from FSU library and the scientists who
wrote the academic journal that are prestigious in their work.

GMO Facts
The project of non-genetically modified food is to help make regulations
that are set in place for the production of crops/animals that are modified.
Genetically modified food does more than just harm individuals health but
also harms the environment. The insects and weeds are becoming stronger in
resistance of Ready Round-Up product created by Monsantos. Mega-
corporations create lawsuit for farmers who have genetically modified soil
type near their farm.

I would utilize this article by illustrating how insects and weed have
adapted to become stronger. Discuss how these super weeds and insects has
an impact on the environment, as well as the

The article is published by a valid source in their information about

genetically modified food. GMO Facts describes how genetically modified
foods can hurt consumers and the environment in detrimental ways.

Genetically Modified Foods

The article makes the argument that genetically modified food and medicine
are quite great in some circumstances. It tells how genetically engineered
vaccine makes it available to do away with diseases that were once
incurable. The article describes how genetically modified food can grow in
certain areas that do not receive rainfall and produce proper crop yields. The
benefits of GMOs help society, more than they affect it in their argument.

I would use this article to form the reasons why GMOs are not regulation or
laws are getting passed. I would like to refute the argument of how GMOs
are beneficial in most situation and explain my reasoning.
The article comes from a scholarly site and has a lot of scientific information
and quotes. The website focuses on how genetically modified food helps
humans.

The Truth about Genetically Modified Food

This article strikes on the issue that genetically modified food helps the
growing population continue to grow. Due to the rising population, more
demand for food and resources are needed, and that is where GMOs come
into play. The article describes how there are minimal risks in dealing with
GMOs as some scientist say. Would you rather have people surviving on
earth, or dying due to the lack of resources, and not pumping GMOs in
certain locations?

I would use this article to develop the counter argument for genetically
modified food and I would illustrate how my opinion of GMOs differ from
theirs.

The article comes from a scientific site and the information comes from
multiple scientists. The website Scientific America publishes scientific
journals about different topics dealing in the realm of science.
