Initiation: Good morning class! Welcome to Stanley Golf Course! Does anyone remember
what skill we worked on last class? Putting, exactly. Today we will be focusing in on putting
again, but this time we will be moving further away from the hole. We will also be learning
more about golf etiquette, and how to read the green. Before we begin on that, can everyone
pick up their putter and find space? Make sure you are keeping the head of the putter on the
ground when we arent using it. Now what were some of the cues we just learned about last
class? Great can everyone show me that thumb over thumb grip. Nice, now lets take a small
swing, remember arms straight, and move your arms in a tic toc motion. Good. What is
etiquette? Why do we use etiquette? Excellent. Now remember, whenever we are in PE class
we are safe, so keep those golf clubs in control, and make sure were giving each other
constructive feedback and positive encouragement. Whos ready to begin?!

partner putting is using the correct cues and
utilizing proper form. The student putting
will start by reading the green, and
interpreting where it could break. Then they
will use that information to try and see how
many shots they can make in 10 strokes. If a
ball doesnt go in, students can keep putting
until they have made their shot. Once a shot
is made, the player will begin again from the
same spot just inside the green. Partners can
make it a competition if they would like, or
they could just work on beating their own
personal scores. After each partner takes 10

Differentiated Instruction:
Simplified - Have groups of students take a few steps closer to the green.
Challenge - Have students try a shot from a spot that has an elevation involved, to make the
students have to read the break.
Closure: Excellent work today everybody! I saw a lot of good reads today. What was your
favorite part about todays lesson? What was the most challenging for you? When would we
use the skills we learned today in a real game scenario? Good! Next week we will be working
on chipping! Have a great weekend.
Kyles Reflection
Overall I thought my lesson went very well. I was a little bit overwhelmed at first, mainly
because I didnt know a whole lot about golf going into this semester. I also didnt want to do a
lesson that was too similar to the group that taught before me, as they had a putting lesson and
my lesson was on long putting / green reading. I was able to approach one of my friends from
high school who graduated last year from Central and is a physical educator now in Middletown.
He gave me some advice in terms of activities that I could use for students that would be
developmentally appropriate and address the topic of green reading. I thought the activity would
be perfect for a high school class. The one thing I could work on a little bit more is my safety,
especially with such a potentially dangerous sport. I say this because I missed Lindsey, who was
swinging her club around all class. It is tough to try and manage behaviors while facilitating a
class at the same time.
Joeys Reflection
Despite the misunderstanding with the equipment at the beginning, (which ended up not being a
big deal) I thought this lesson went great. Even though Kyle and I are relatively new to golf in
general, I thought we had a proper lesson that taught basic cues, had clear objectives, recognized
safety, and great progressive activities. Our strengths were our vocal projection, enthusiasm, and
personal connections. We never had our backs to the students and I believe we both got to every
group at least one time and gave them specific and general feedback. Where I would like to see
improvement is in our attention to safety during the activities. We caught a lot of the unsafe acts
but some of them managed to elude our focus. Overall I that our long putting lesson went great
even through some minor distractions like the landscapers in the background.
