Initiation: Good Morning everyone! Last class we practiced chipping. Today we are going to
be learning about a pitch shot. Clubs should be on the ground we do not need them yet. First I
want everyone to turn and talk to a partner. I want you to discuss some of the cues for the chip
shot we learned last class. Now that youve had time to discuss can someone raise their hand
and tell me one thing you and your partner talked about? Perfect. Today we are learning about a

pitch shot. It is a little different from a chip shot. A pitch shot is used on the golf course when
you are about 75-100 yards away from the green. It is used as a precise shot to line you up to
make either a long or short putt. The grip for the club is the same; we still make the Y with our
arms. One thing to note that is different in a pitch shot compared to chipping is the positioning
of your feet. Our feet want to be a little closer than shoulder width apart. We want the majority
of our weight to be on our front foot. Also, you want to turn your front foot slightly towards the
target (the flag). Can I ask someone to demonstrate to the class the proper way to form for a pitch
shot (will point out/review each cue one more time when student demonstrates pitch shot).
Before we get started some safety things to keep in mind are no running with clubs, clubs should
be on the ground when instructors are talking, and to pay attention of your area around you when
swinging a club.

Rosalina: Going off of all the feedback from both Professor Gagnon and our peers I thought overall our
lesson on pitching went pretty well. Before mentioning anything about our pitching lesson, bringing in
the turn and talk activity was a good way to get students brains thinking of our previous class directed
towards chipping. Throughout our lesson one thing that both Emily and I enforced was safety; making
sure that all clubs were down when one of us is talking, and that clubs were only to be touched on Go.
While focusing on safety, we both traveled around the class quite a bit to make sure everyone understood
what they were asked to do and to make sure they were on task. If we were given the chance to teach this
lesson over again, one thing that could be done is by giving students a designated time limit vs. the
number of reps. This is because you might have some students very skilled in golf while others wont be
and will be taking their time. To speed up time as well during class, rather than having just the golfers
shag golf balls have everyone shag balls. Finally, one thing that I notice myself even when presenting is
my tone of voice. Especially with the environment of being outside and all the other possible distractions4
going on you want to make sure that all eyes and ears are on you and that your students can hear you loud
and clear. Even if I have to stop and bring the class in closer to discuss what we just did then send
everyone back to their stations it makes everything a lot clearer for everyone.
