CAREER ASPIRATIONS

When I first entered college my ultimate goal was to enter the field of psychiatry. I had planned to major in
psychology with a minor in music and take the necessary courses required to enter a medical school
program. Upon graduating I planned on attending graduate school to acquire a masters of arts in Music
Therapy and then to enter a medical program. I felt this was the best way to merge my love of music with
my passion for helping others. However, because of several factors, I have decided to change my path. I am
currently pursuing a double major in psychology and business in order to earn a MBA with a focus in human
resource management, followed by a Ph.D. in industrial-organizational psychology. I-O psychology is
concerned with the study of workplace behavior. People who work in this areas apply psychological
principles to areas such as human resources, employee training, marketing and sales, and organizational
development. I am currently still discovering which career path I would like to following, but I am considering
consulting and working in the private sector or with universities.

CONTRIBUTIONS

I first heard of Student Alumni Ambassadors during SAFE voyage and it sparked my interest because I saw it
as a unique opportunity for me to serve my UNCC community. As an incoming freshman, I was quite
apprehensive about the kind of experience I would have here. Candidly, this was not where I had my heart
set to go and so I lacked a positive attitude and a sense of optimism that I very much needed. I was worried
that I wouldnt quite find my niche or feel at home here, but going to SAFE gave me that optimism and from
there on I decided to emerge myself into new experiences by joining different organizations and keeping an
open mind. I have made connections with many enthusiastic leaders through both organizations and in
socials settings and I must say that their passion has rubbed off on me. Having an open mind was the best
thing I did for myself during my first semester because it allowed me to make meaningful connections and
figure out where my leadership and talents could be best used. I found my home. Now I would like to do the
same for others through this organization. I want to share my excitement and unique perspectives with
students, alumni and parents with the hopes of making them feel more connected and committed to this
great university. I am looking forward to getting to know new people and collaborating with a diverse
network of individuals. Additionally, I feel that SAA would be a place in which my communication,
organization and planning skills will flourish and strengthen.

I found out about SAA through the SAFE program. Most recently I heard more about it
through a brief presentation by member McKenzie Walsh at my Emerging Leaders meeting.

Last semester I was in the psychology learning community in which I completed a service
project at the Jamil Niner Student food pantry. Presently, I am a university honors program
student and an Emerging Leader participant. I am also a member of the Voices of Eden
gospel choir and hope to become a section leader in the near future. Additionally I am a
member of Collegiate 100 and the Black Student Union.

Before entering college I was very involved and engaged with my community in
Greensboro, NC. One origination in particular that I was very involved with is the
National Conference of Community and Justice of the Piedmont Triad and I still get
involved when I am home and when we have major events. Most recently was a
counselor this past summer for ANYTOWN, which is a week-long residential program
over the summer offered to rising high school juniors and seniors. The program
provides students with the unique opportunity to interact and build relationships
with a diverse group of students who come together to build a community based on
inclusivity, respect and understanding, through engaging workshops and intense
discussion groups along with lots of fun. This program is near to my heart, as I was
once a participant, and I plan to continue to be a counselor in the future. I plan to
become equally engaged in the Charlotte community as I continue my journey here.
Much of my first year here at UNCC I have been focused on my school work and
joining organizations that I feel I will be connected to long term. I have however
participated in service with various partners through the university honors program
such as Crisis Assistant Ministries. Additionally I will be mentoring youth through
Colligate 100 which I am very excited about.
