Essential Question: Is it better to adopt a dog from a shelter?

Working Thesis: Everyone should adopt from shelters rather than buying puppies from breeders

or stores.

Refined Thesis: Breeders should have strict regulations to limit number of puppies produced so

more dogs can be adopted.

This article talks about how many animals end up in the shelter every year and also talks about

the benefits of adopting or fostering an animal. Purebred dogs end up in shelters too

usually by landlord issues or other things that are not their fault. I chose this article

because it talks about how animals can end up in a shelter by no fault of their own and

how they deserve a chance too.

This article talked about the rising number of senior dogs and pit bulls in inner city shelters. All

dogs deserve forever homes and people should be fighting to get all animals out of shelters and

into their forever homes. I am using this source to talk about how while numbers in shelters have

decreased there is a lot more room for improvement to help these shelter dogs.

This article talked about what happens behind the doors of a puppy mill. Dogs live in squalor

and filth and puppies are taken away from their mother way too early. Puppies

suffer from serious medical conditions and they lack the social skills they need to be

a normal puppy. They are taken from their mothers way too early. Im using this

source because because I want to show how important early development is with

puppies.
