SUNY Canton Early Childhood Program

Student Self-Evaluation Form

Complete Parts 1 and 2 following your lesson plan activity implementation.

Name: Molly Atkinson

Date: 4/1/2017
Focus: Creative Arts Expressions
Title of Lesson:Spring Suncatchers
Part 1: Evaluation
Objective 1: The children will enhance self-control by working independently with classroom materials
during a creative arts expression project.

o Met

Outcome: Most of the children had an easy time following directions and using materials
appropriately. There were a couple children that have trouble listening that had a couple small
problems and werent able to follow the same directions.

Follow-Up: I would give the children a similar project that requires the same amount of self control to
see if they children that didnt follow along this could follow next time.

Objective 2: The children will enhance memory skills by following multi-step directions as they
participate in a creative arts expression activity.
o Met

Outcome: As we went through the project, I would ask the children what the next step I said was, and
they would repeat it. Most of the class was able to follow directions properly.

Follow-Up: I would ask the children if they were able to follow directions throughout the project. If
they were not, I will ask them why they dont think they were able to and I would talk to them about
why its important to listen and follow directions.

Objective 3: 3: The children will develop a sense of curiosity by participating in a creative arts
expression activity.
o Met

Outcome: All of the children were very excited to work with these different materials they havent
used before together. The children were curious to see what happened with the paint water and tissue
paper when they dried on the wax paper.

Follow-Up: I would come up with a different way to use these materials to show the children different
uses of these materials.

Part 2: Self-Evaluation / Reflection

Complete each question following the lesson activity implementation:

1. Overall, how would you rate the success of your lesson activity?
_____Fair ______Good __x__Excellent

2. What specific parts of the activity were most successful? Provide 3 examples to support your
response.

The children were able to follow directions and make their suncatchers in steps order.
The children liked the book and by the end were able to recite the line, the sun is my favorite star
along with the narrator of the book.
We didnt have any large messes! I knew painting with glue could go one of two ways. Luckily, there
werent many big spills and it all stayed off the floor.

3. Describe any difficulties or challenges you encountered.

Were you adequately planned and prepared?
I always have a problem finding the exact book I want to use. The Canton library didnt have the book I
needed so the librarian used the interlibrary system to find the book for me at the Potsdam library
where I was able to acquire the book.

4. How would you address the difficulties and/or challenges if it happened again?
I always have this problem so I know to make sure I can find the book in plenty of time in case I need to
pick another book.

5. Additional thoughts, insights, reflections:

My lesson plan went well! The children really liked making their suncatchers and seeing them hang up
on the windows in the classroom.
