Lesson Plan Format 1

Goal: To have students understand congruence and apply that knowledge to proving

congruence in the fairs.

Objectives:

1. Students will have the ability to recognize correspondence between shapes.

2. Students will have the ability to define congruence

3. Students will have the ability to recognize congruent shapes

Content: High School mathematics- Geometry

Intended Audience: 10th and 11th grade Geometry students

Prerequisite Knowledge:

1. What constitutes as a figure

2. What a polygon is

3. How to label sides, angles, triangles i.e. <ABC

Learning Standards:
CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.HSG.CO.A.1
CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.HSG.CO.A.3
CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.HSG.CO.B.7
CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.HSG.CO.B.8

Materials:

1. Notes- attatched

2. Worksheets

3. SmartBoard

Procedures:

1. Introduction:

a. Warm up on board

b. Have students get out materials for notes.

Lesson Plan Format 2

2. Pre-assessment:

a. What angle is <ABC in the triangle below?

3. Think Aloud:
Teacher Question Student Response (expected)
What is the difference between figures and A figure can be anything and a polygon is a
polygons? shape.
Are polygons considered a figure? Yes.
Why? Because the definition of a figure states: Any
point, line, segment, ray, angle, polygon,
curve, region, plane, surface, solid, etc.
therefore based on the definition it would be
considered a figure.

4. Instruction for the Activity:

Have students sit at desks and start on warm up. After warm up go in to

notes. Throughout the notes have students answer questions when

applicable. After notes hand out worksheet to have students start

working on classwork problems. Finish other problems at home for

homework.

5. Assignments:

a. In class examples- done with notes.

b. Worksheet given in class that contains classwork and homework

problems.

6. Adaptations:

IEPs and struggling students

Student specific based on IEP specifications.

-Have guided notes available at student request.

-Read notes aloud for students struggling with reading.

Lesson Plan Format 3

-Have SmartBoard materials available for students to reference.

-Give extra time for homework when needed.

Assessments:

Pre-assessment: Warm up

Formative Assessments: Classwork and homework

Summative Assessment:
Quiz over Congruent Triangles
Chapter test

Rationale: I chose a direct lesson for this because I feel it will give a good understanding to
the students for how they learn the rest about congruent triangles down the line. The next
days lesson is a disocovery lesson on how to prove congruence based on side-side-side and
I feel that having this being directly taught to them will give them good notes and guidance
for that activity. This will also give students good notes to refer back on and the
opportunity to ask questions when needed.
Lesson Plan Format 4

Warm Up:
Given the triangle below please answer the questions:

1. How would you label the pink angle?

2. How would you label the purple side?

3. How would label the triangle?
