BACKGROUND/ INTRODUCTION
a. Opening
Many people claim that Lime (Citrus aurantifolia) can be used as a
traditional medicine Efficacious reduce fever, cough, urinary tract infections,
dandruff, add Stamina, reduce acne as well as anti-inflammatory and
antimicrobial. Nowadays lime is not only used for treatment, but for food and
beverage. We live in an age when many of us are prefer treatments using
chemicals rather than natural or herbal such as lime.
b. Introducing points
Firstly, let us take a look at the definition of lime. First of all, it's
worth considering that lemon has many benefits for the health of the body.
Secondly will be explained about the content contained in lime. Finally Will
be discussed about the benefits contained in the lemon for the health of the
body.
THEORY
Lime (Citrus aurantifolia S.) is one of the toga plants that are used in the
community, both for seasoning and for medicines from the juice of lemon juice. For
medicine, lime is used as an appetite enhancer, fever (antipireutic), diarrhea, body-
raising, anti-inflammatory, and antibacterial (Haryanto and Sri 2006). Lime is one
type of citrus (orange) whose origin is from India and Southeast Asia. The
systematics of lime as follows:
Kingdom : Plantae
Divisi : Magnoliophyta
Class : Magnoliopsida
Ordo : Sapindales
Family : Rutaceae
Genus : Citrus
Species : Citrus aurantifolia
Name of the area: citrus acid (Java), lime acid (Sunda), orang dhurga (Madura)
Foreign name: Lime (English), five (Spanish), and limah (Arabic). (Apraj et al.,
2011)
Lime plant is a small tree. The fruit is rather round shape with a slightly
budlock tip and 3-6 cm in diameter with a fairly thick skin. When young, the fruit is
yellow. The older, the fruit color is more light green or yellowish. Fresh tamarind
taste. The seeds are oval, flat, and greenish. The root of the rod is round and
yellowish white. (Astarini et Al, 2010)
Lime fruit has a bitter, sour taste, and is a bit cold. Some of the chemicals
contained in lemon include citric acid seb 7-7,6%, fat resin, mineral, vitamin B1,
citral limonene, fellandren, lemon kamfer, geranil acetate, cadinen, linalin acetate. In
addition, lime also contains vitamin C as much as 27mg / 100g of orange, Ca as much
as 40mg / 100g of orange, and P as much as 22mg. (Hariana, 2006)
As a citrus genus, the lemon is one of the essential oil-producing plants which
is a natural substance that has been thought to have an antibacterial effect. Essential
oils produced by plants derived from the genus Citrus mostly contain terpen, aliphatic
siskiterpen, oxygenated hydrocarbon derivatives, and aromatic hydrocarbons. The
composition of essential oils in citrus (Citrus aurantifolia) is limonene (33.33%), -
pinen (15.85%), citral (10.54%), neral (7.94%), - 6.8%), -farnesen (4.14%), -
bergamotene (3.38%), -bisabolene (3.05%), -terpineol (2.98%), linalol (2, 45%),
sabine (1.81%), -element (1.74%), nerol (1.52%), -pinen (1.25%), geranil acetate
(1.23%), 4 -terpineol (1.17%), neril acetate (0.56%) and trans--osimen (0.26%).
(Astarini et al, 2010) Lime (Citrus aurantifolia) can be used as a traditional medicine
to reduce fever, cough, urinary tract infections, dandruff, increase stamina, reduce
acne as well as anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial. (Astarini et al, 2010)
In daily use this fluid is used to give a sour taste to various dishes. The leaves
can be used as a spice on fried side dishes of meat. The outer shell of lime fruit can be
extracted essential oil used as medicinal ingredients and almost all food, beverage,
soap, cosmetic and perfume industries use these essential oils as fragrances and can
also be used as antirheumatic, antiseptic, antifungal, astringent, antibacterial,
diuretic , Antipyretic, antihypertensive, antifungal, insecticide, tonic, antiviral,
expectorant (Agusta, 2000).
The effects of lemon juice as antibacterial juice can inhibit the growth of
Escherichia colli, Streptococcus haemolyticus, and Staphylococcus aureus bacteria.
One bacterium, Staphylococcus aureus, is an estimated 20-75% positive gram
bacteria found in the upper respiratory tract, face, hands, hair and vagina. These
bacterial infections can cause disease with typical signs, namely inflammation,
necrosis, appear as acne, hair follicle infection, and abscess formation. Among the
organs often attacked by bacteria Staphylococcus aureus is a skin that is injured and
can spread to other people who also suffered injuries. (Mursito and Bambang 2006)
DISCUSSION
d. Conclusion
Lime (Citrus aurantifolia) can be used as a traditional medicine to
reduce fever, cough, urinary tract infections, dandruff, increase stamina,
reduce acne as well as anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial. Water Juice of
lime juice has power inhibition of bacterial growth Staphylococcus aurfeus at
concentrations of 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100% where the higher the air
concentration juice of lime juice hence the power of air velocity juice of lime
fruit to growth Staphylococcus germ is getting better effect of duration of air
contact of lime juice against the growth Staphylococcus bacteria Aureus is the
longer the bacterial contact Staphylococcus aureus with lemon juice Nipis
then the power of the lime juice against the growth of Staphylococcus aureus
bacteria to be better.
