Rifles preferred, but a small number of muskets are acceptable

Coats, outer garments: (Note: Company officers, if possible, are


encouraged to make and wear blue and green coats.)
Best: Regimental Coat- blue with green facings, short regimental coat made to 4th
Connecticut pattern.

Acceptable: Hunting shirt- Split front hunting shirt of undyed tow cloth

Unacceptable:
Other Regimental coats, dyed split hunting shirts of any color, pullover hunting
shirts, smocks, frocks, civilian coats.

Waistcoats:
Best: Plain cloth waistcoat, with or without sleeves, round cut or with skirts made of
white, brown, mixed, light or striped colored wool or linen.

Unacceptable: Waistcoats of non-period fabrics or styles

Legwear:.
Best: Trousers (linen; natural, striped, or checked, or leather) or breeches (wool or linen;
white, brown, blue or other period colors).

Unacceptable: Overalls

Hats:
Best: Black felt hat. Fully round short brim (no wider than 3 inches) or turned up on the
left side.

Unacceptable: Leather or felt caps,

Shirts:
Best: Shirt cut to period style. Tow cloth, or other coarse linen, checked or striped linen
or flannel, as well as plain flannel.

Blankets:
Best: Wool Blanket. Plain white, Dutch, 2 or 3 point, or civilian.
Knapsacks:
Best: David Uhl linen knapsack, unpainted.

Acceptable: Blanket roll, blanket carried on sling/tumpline

Unacceptable: Warner knapsacks, snapsacks.

Personal defense (Riflemen):


Best: Period appropriate pattern tomahawk or hatchet, military or civilian.

Acceptable: Native-American style tomahawk

Accoutrements:
Best: Riflemen: Lyman pouch
Musket men: 19 round cartridge pouch 4th Connecticut pattern, with a leather
shoulder strap. Corresponding shoulder belt, frog, and scabbard for bayonet, only if
you have one.

Acceptable:
Riflemen: Other hunting pouch of period appropriate design.
Musket men: Soft pouch not of company pattern holding no more than 24 rounds
of a period appropriate design

Unacceptable:
Tin cartridge canisters, Belly boxes, Any British or German Pouches, New
Construction pouches.

Firearms:
Best: Riflemen: Pennsylvania rifle.
Musket men: Any French musket from 1717 to 1763/66; British short or long land
musket; Committee of Safety musket; Dutch musket, or fowling piece. No slings.

Acceptable: Virginia rifle

Unacceptable: Any post-war rifles and 1777 or later French muskets.

Canteens:
Best: Wooden staved canteen

Acceptable: Tin Canteen of half moon or kidney style, or wooden cheesebox canteen.

Unacceptable: Rumlets, jacked leather water bottle, glass bottles covered in leather or
wicker.
