Growing As A Writer

This semester I have grew as a wittier and I have learned how to improve my writing

techniques. Last semester in English 1301 I have learned different skills that helped me with this

semester. This semester I have learned how to organize, write at a higher word count, and

elaborate more on my ideas. I learned how to find valuable information for my research papers

and I also learned how to become more creative in my essays. All the writing techniques I have

learned from English will also help improve my writing in my future classes.

In my casual argument essay I learned how to find credible sources to use for my

information. Before I started my essay, I had to do an annotated bibliography which helped me

determine if the sources were going to be useful to my essay. In my annotated bibliography, I

had to state if I was going to use the information for my casual argument. I used a quote from

my casual argument essay Low turnout suggest that people may be alienated, lack faith in the

candidate and parties, think that the government will and remain unresponsive to their needs and

interests, and believe that they cannot achieve change through the electoral process (Wayne 85).

This quote was one example of a credible source I used, I have found most of my credible

sources from the database. The librarian who came in and taught me how to use the data base

was very helpful, I was taught how to find all my credible sources from there. Learning how to

find credible sources for my essay will help me improve my writing for my other classes as well.

Each essay I wrote this semester contained a higher word count which helped me grow as

a writer. In high school I was not taught how to write many essays that required word counts.

Each essay I have struggled to reach my word count, I have learned that having a word count

helps a writer expand on my thoughts of the essay topic. Having a word count also taught me

how to be more organized with my paragraphs and essay. One day in my future classes if I am

required to write a ten or twenty-page paper I know that I will be able to accomplish the

requirements.

The casual argument and proposal essay has taught me how to become more creative in

my writing. Having a choice in which topic I wanted to write about helped me branch out on

new ideas. I have learned new information by doing the research for the papers. I was able to

incorporate many new ideas to my paper of how I could fix the solution of my issue. The

proposal essay also had the highest word count which helped me to elaborate more on the topic. I

have always had trouble of deciding what to write about in my essays, having a choice on my

topic helped me become more creative in my writing process.

This semester I have learned so many new techniques that will be helpful for my other

classes as well as the workplace one day. Being taught how to use valuable information and

becoming more creative in writing will be useful skills that I can use for the rest of my life.

Learning these helpful skills has helped me improve as a writer and will be something that I use

in my everyday life.
