Poker terminology

All-in: A wager of all ones chips. A Player cannot

be forced out of a pot because they have run
out of chips. A separate pot will be created for
the remaining Players wagers.
Betting Round: A single cycle of Players checking/Betting/
calling/raising/folding. During Betting round
each Player acts on their hand in turn, in a
clockwise direction.
Blind: A Bet made by a Player or Players without
seeing their cards. One Player in Manila and
Two Players in Omaha and Holdem place blind
Bets prior to each hand being dealt.
Dealer Button: A marker used to indicate who is last to receive
cards and last to act in a Betting round. Ordinarily
this Player would have been dealing the cards.
Call: To match the previous Bet and or raises made
in a Betting round. A Player may call with all
their chips even if it is insufficient to meet a
Bet/raise. This Player is said to be going all-in.
Check: To refrain from Betting without folding. A
Player may not check if a Bet (including blind
Bets) has been made.
Community: Cards face up in the middle of the table used
Cards by all Players to make their best five card Poker
hand.
Flop: The first three of the five community cards in
Omaha and Holdem. These cards are dealt
simultaneously.
Fold: To discard ones cards and take no further part
in that hand.
Hole Cards: A Players cards dealt face down.
Pot: The sum of all Antes, blinds and Bets wagered
in a round.
Raise: To increase the amount already wagered in a
Betting round.
Showdown: The exposing of Players hands and the
determining of the winning hand prior to the
pot being awarded.

HOW TO PLAY?
Poker, the king of card games, is an exciting blend of strategy and
the random fall of cards. Unlike other casino games, you play
against other Players not the Dealer. There are many varieties
of Poker and we offer two of the favourites; Omaha and Texas
Holdem.
Getting Started
To join a game, simply visit the Poker Zones cashier and put your
name on an interest list. If there is not a seat available you can
have your name put on a waiting list and we can SMS you when
your seat becomes available.
What is the objective of the game?
The object of the game is to win the pot by forming the highest
ranked five-card Poker hand or have all the other Players surrender
the pot to you by folding to your Bet (bluffing).
In Texas Holdem, Players may use any combination of seven
cards to make the best five-card Poker hand. In Omaha, the only
combination a Player may use is using two hole cards with three
of the community (board) cards.
How do I play?
The Blinds
Before a game begins, two Players need to place a Blind Bet. This
is called a Blind Bet because the Players have Bet without seeing
any cards.
All Players are then dealt their two private hole cards (the initial deal).
After looking at his or her hole cards, each Player then has the
option to play his or her hand by folding, calling or raising the big
blind (the first Betting round).
Each Player must have Bet the same amount in each Betting round
before the game can proceed.
The Flop
After the first Betting round is complete, three community cards
are dealt face-up on the board (known as the flop).
In turn, Players may either check, fold, Bet, call or raise depending
on what action has occurred before them.
The Turn
After the Betting action is complete for the flop, a fourth
community card is dealt face-up on the board and another
Betting round follows.
The River
After the Betting action is complete for the turn, a fifth community
card is dealt face-up on the board and a final round of Betting
follows.

Tips for new players

Keep in turn: Wait for the Dealer to prompt you. Acting before it is eg. J J J 7 7

finish playing nor add chips to their stake during a N.B. The ace counts as a low card also,
hand. Minimum and maximum buy-ins apply.

protectors is encouraged.
