Members of society tend to have an interest of protecting the weaker (not as

mature) members of its population, which in this case are people under the age
of 18. Keep in mind, those under the age of 18 are still considered children by
law.
Legally lowering the age of consent/ getting rid of it would make it much easier
for pedophile networks to access teens and children.

Arising problems

When dating someone of an older or younger age, they tend to have different
life goals that could complicate a relationship. For instance, the younger
persons goal may be to graduate school, while the older members goal may
be to find a stable job, and settle down with someone.
The younger member may not be ready for such a major commitment of settling down with a
partner, which can lead to arguments and other challenges
Family members may be unsupportive of such an age gap in a relationship,
leading to arguments, a lack of trust, and a general uneasiness about family
member in the relationship

According Ruth Purple (2014), relationship expert, there is a significant

chance that your family and friends will not take to your partner, if he/she is
older or younger than you.
If there is a major age gap in the relationship, the two may have a harder time
finding common interests. For instance, the older member may be interested
in classic movies from the 70s and 80s, while the other member may be a
huge fan of reality tv. While this may seem to be an insignificant problem,
these problems can add up and create a feeling of separation.

The younger member of the relationship could tend to feel pressured into
activities that the older members expects them to do. For example, the older
person may be ready to have sex way before the younger person is; therefore, the
younger member could feel pressured into have sex (which they dont want)

Ethics

Lowering or ridding the age consent would make it technically legal for someone
of much older age, such as 26, to be dating one much younger, such as 15. Many
members of society tend to frown upon these behaviors. Such an age gap is not as
big a difference in mid adulthood as it is in late adolescence/early adulthood, since
the younger member is not as mature.

By lowering the age of consent we could protect the younger people. There
gonna do it anyway so lowering the age will help parents take the steps they
need to keep anything from happening.
If children are told by thier parents that they shouldnt do something they most
likely are.
Consent laws come from Great Britan when sex was male privlage and if a
women does have sex she loses her virtue.
Is it right for someone to have consentual sex with someone under the age of 18
and be deemed a statory rapist and be stuck in prison with actual rapist,
arsonist and kidnappers.

The age of consent laws are to protect people from predators. However if a
College freshman ask a high school junior on a date its hardly a preditory

A child is biologically someone who hasnt entered puberty. Girls on average hit

Overall, we have reached the conclusion that readiness for a relationship

with an age gap revolves around the level of maturity of the younger
member.
We both agree that smaller age gaps, such as 5-6 years, is reasonable.
However, if the age gap exceeds 6 years (in younger relationships), we
consider that to be outlandish.
