How politically skilled are you?
The success of any investment relies on the ability to formulate strong ties bet
ween the managers and the employees. The links are embedded in the positive poli
tical skills. Recently, I took a survey on the same, and my goal was realized. I
feel I am self-aware of that area of my life. I learned that all my political t
raits are either positive or neutral. Moreover, the qualities have enabled me to
achieve positive political skills, and thus I have attained political-skills re
lated success.
Political skills depend mainly on oral functions. I realized early enough that
people tend to open up to others depending on how they feel with those people. A
conversation atmosphere of total ease is therefore necessary. For instance, in
High school, there was this time when my parents had traveled, and I was sufferi
ng from heartburns. I realized that I was moody, rude, and self-centered. Howeve
r, I did not take care of the situation. It turned out that all my friends were
avoiding me and thus had nobody to take me to the pharmacy. Nonetheless, I went
to the pharmacy alone. The pharmacist was a self-absorbed, angry, and rude man w
ho would have wanted nothing more than to go home. I found it so difficult to ta
lk to him that I went back home without any medical help. I figured that maybe t
he man was also coming down with an illness too that is why he was in an awful m
ood. Nevertheless, this was the turning point for me. I no longer let any setbac
k affect my communication with my staff members.
Sadly, approaching a new associate has always been a setback for me. I often won
der about the ideal first impression. Therefore, more often than not, I never re
fresh the old list of associates and colleagues. I plan on breaking that norm. T
he best way is to build confidence with a routine of meetings with new associate
s.
Are You an Effective Follower?
An effective follower is an active member of the staff. It is critical for t
he leader to know that the members and their leaders are equal. None is ahead of
the other. All the members should be eager to participate in realizing the orga
nizational goal. The survey showed that I take the initiative at work. Self-init
iative is a positive concept geared at the organizational goals. I plan on passi
ng it to my subordinates by motivating self-initiators every step of the way. If
at least half of the staff members exercised this, the organization would reali
ze some of its goals. I find it difficult to challenge the systems at work becau
se they have been in place long since I started working in the company. Nonethel
ess, I champion for pragmatic members of our team. The set rules should not be f
ollowed if they do not generate organization and personal profit.
I am self-development oriented. The skill will help me in attaining the highest
form of education and thus enhancing my knowledge. I look forward to learning ne
w things in future and receiving accolades for the same. I will later use the sk
ills to educate the staff members and achieve the set goals. The concept of cour
age and honesty is noble. I plan on exercising it in all my endeavors in and out
of the office. Finally, I believe that commitment beyond oneself is essential
to the success of every organization. I will, therefore, choose staff members fo
r promotion using the usual merits as well as their level of inclination towards
commitment beyond oneself.
