A summary list of those changes is provided below. A Definitions section has been added to more fully describe the characteristics of the various contaminant types presented in this OIS. PIREPs (Pilot Reports) are frequently used to indicate the noted braking characteristics. The correlation between PIREPs and contaminant types is presented as part of this revision. FAA SAF; (Safety Alert for Operators) 06012 establishes a requirement for flight crews to conduct a new “enroute” assessment of landing distance expected at time of arrival and based on the existing runway surface condition. Details on how to implement this SAFO requirement are contained in this latest revision. For takeoff and landing on contaminated runways, there is no longer a restriction on both thrust reversers being operative. Correction factors are now provided if one or both thrust reversers are inoperative. The maximum allowable depth of standing water for takeoff on a contaminated runway has been extended from 10 mm to 15 mm (the maximum allowed under EASA (European Aviation Safety Agency) rules). For accelerate-go takeoff performance on a contaminated runway, 2 levels of performance are provided. For equivalent water depths between 3 mm (0.12 in.) and 5 mm (0.2 in.), shorter takeoff distances are possible by using a V; less than Ver. For equivalent water depths between 5 mm (0.2 in.) and 15 mm (0.6 in.), it is necessary to use V; = Vp criteria to ensure that the takeoff can be safely continued with one engine inoperative. For landing operations on a runway contaminated with standing water, slush or loose snow, it is no longer necessary to account for the depth of the contaminant. REVISION 1 (RE-ISSUE) G450-O1S-02 Aug 3/14 CONTAMINATED RUNWAY PERFORMANCE Page 9 G450 OPERATIONAL INFORMATION SUPPLEMENT G450-O1S-02 ADVISORY DATA ONLY — NOT FAA APPROVED The beneficial aspects of contaminant depth on landing performance have been omitted. e Previously, the required landing distance on a runway covered by compacted snow was conservatively restricted to be no less than the wet/slippery dispatch distance determined as 1.92 x the certified, dry runway distance. Under the new enroute assessment, it is allowed to use a computed landing distance (plus the 15% safety margin) that is less than the wet/slippery dispatch distance. Hence, computed landing distances on a runway covered with compacted snow are no longer restricted to the wet/slippery dispatch distance. * Previously there was only a single correction for loose snow. Recently, EASA has established separate criteria for dry loose snow and wet loose snow. This update provides separate equivalent water depth corrections for dry loose snow and wet loose snow. « Transport Canada has developed a generic crosswind limitation chart for operations on contaminated runway. The determination of allowable crosswind for different contaminant types is discussed and presented in this revision. e The baseline chart for contaminated landing distance is updated to reflect slight changes to landing reference speeds. Introduction This supplement is divided into 3 major sections. Section A contains general information about operations on contaminated runways to include definitions for the various contaminant types, special considerations, and unique limitations and procedures. Section A also discusses the new FAA enroute landing distance assessment and how this differs from the current dispatch landing distance assessment. Section B presents contaminated runway takeoff and landing distance data in graphical format and several examples on how to use these charts to determine performance data. Finally, Section C provides contaminated runway takeoff and landing distance data and examples in tabular format. The Section C tabular data provides dry, unfactored AFM landing distances as well as G450-O1S-02 REVISION 1 (RE-ISSUE) Page 10 CONTAMINATED RUNWAY PERFORMANCE Aug 3/11 Gulfstream G450 OPERATIONAL INFORMATION SUPPLEMENT ADVISORY DATA ONLY — NOT FAA APPROVED G450-O1S-02 tables for determining both “dispatch” and “enroute” landing distances. General Information This supplement contains advisory takeoff and landing distance data for airport operations primarily on contaminated runways. Except for runway distance data, all other performance data and limits in AFM Section 5 for takeoff and landing operations are still applicable. The data in this OIS are based on analytical guidance material prescribed by EASA (European Aviation Safety Agency) (the FAA does not currently have formal contaminated runway requirements) — not flight test data. Flight crews should be cautioned that actual conditions (different from those used for establishing the contaminated runway performance) may lead to different performance, and estimating average contamination depth and/or type can be difficult. Runway Condition Definitions Dry runway: A runway is considered dry if it is clear of visible moisture. A damp runway, which has a moisture layer that is non- reflective, is also considered dry. Wet runway: A runway is considered to be wet when there is sufficient moisture to cause it to appear reflective but the depth of the water is not more than 3 mm (0.125 in.). Contaminated runway: A runway surface is considered contaminated when more than 25% of the runway surface area is covered with standing water, slush, loose snow (dry or wet), compacted snow or ice. Standing water: Water depth is greater than 3 mm (.125 in). Slush: Partly melted snow or ice with a high water content, from which water can readily flow. Compacted snow: Snow which has been compressed into a solid mass such that the airplane wheels will run on the surface without causing significant rutting. Loose snow: Snow on the runway surface which had not been compressed by vehicle or aircraft traffic. Loose snow can consist of either dry snow or wet snow. REVISION 1 (RE-ISSUE) G450-O1S-02 Aug 3/14 CONTAMINATED RUNWAY PERFORMANCE Page 13 Gulfstream G450 OPERATIONAL INFORMATION SUPPLEMENT G450-OlS-02 ADVISORY DATA ONLY — NOT FAA APPROVED Dry loose snow: Fresh snow that can be blown, or, if compressed by hand, will fall apart upon release. Wet loose snow: Snow that will stick together when compressed, but will not readily allow water to flow from it when squeezed Ice: Water which has frozen on the runway surface, including the condition where compacted snow transitions to a polished ice surface. Equivalent Water Depth Airport operations on wet loose snow and slush-covered runways are treated in a similar manner as operations on a runway contaminated with standing water. The only difference is that because of different densities, a measurable depth of wet loose snow (50% the density of water) or slush (85% the density of water) must first be converted to an equivalent depth of standing water. This is accomplished by using the conversion data presented in Table 1a below. The data in this table can be interpolated for intermediate depths of contamination, e.g., 15 mm (0.6 in) of wet loose snow is equivalent to 7.5 mm (0.3 in) of standing water. Otherwise, hydroplaning speeds, tire displacement drag and spray impingement drag on runways with wet loose snow and slush are determined in a manner that is similar to a runway contaminated with standing water. EASA has developed separate standards for classifying dry loose snow and wet loose snow. Under the new EASA contaminated runway rules for runways contaminated with dry loose snow, it is no longer necessary to account for spray impingement drag and hydroplaning speeds. Therefore, it is possible to takeoff and land in a much greater depth of dry loose snow than wet loose snow. In addition, dry loose snow is assumed to have a density that is only 20% the density of water. In consideration of these differences, Gulfstream has determined that it is conservative to divide the effective dry loose snow depth by 6 in order to establish the equivalent water depth to use when determining takeoff performance on a runway contaminated by dry loose snow. Hence, 21 mm (0.84 in.) of dry loose snow converts to 3.5 mm (0.14 in) of standing water. The primary way to report runway condition is to specify the contaminant type and/or depth. The various contaminant types were discussed in the previous section. As the runway friction characteristics begin to degrade below dry runway braking actions, pilots are expected to report braking actions as “Good”, “Medium (or Fair)”, “Poor” or “Nil”. These are known as PIREPs (Pilot Reports). Provided below in Table 2a is a table that establishes a rough correlation between contaminant type and PIREPs. Table 2a. Correlation of Contaminant Type and PIREP PIREP Dry(not | Good | Medium (Fair) | Poor Nil reported) [Contaminant | Dry wet | Compacted Loose Snow, Slush, | Wet ice snow Std Water, ce If contaminant type and/or depth are reported, this information should be used to determine takeoff and landing distances. If only a PIREP is provided, the worst-case (longest distance) contaminant type for that PIREP should be used. For example, if the runway condition is reported as “Poor” and no contaminant type is specified, conservatively use the “ice” performance data to determine landing distance. (For takeoff performance you should be able to verify the existing contaminant type directly.) Conditions specified as “Nil” are not considered safe. Do not operate on surfaces reported as “Nil”. Friction Measuring Devices (FMDs) are also used to measure runway condition/slipperiness at many airports. Extensive testing has been conducted in an effort to find a direct correlation between runway FMD readings and airplane braking friction capability. However, these tests have not produced conclusive results that indicate a repeatable REVISION 1 (RE-ISSUE) G450-01S-02 Aug 3/11 CONTAMINATED RUNWAY PERFORMANCE Page 15 Gulfstream G450 OPERATIONAL INFORMATION SUPPLEMENT G450-O1S-02 ‘ADVISORY DATA ONLY — NOT FAA APPROVED correlation exists through the full spectrum of runway contaminant conditions. Therefore, operators are discouraged from using FMD readings as the primary means to determine runway braking action/slipperiness. Unique Considerations for Operations on Contaminated Runways Takeoff and landing operations on contaminated runways require longer distances than on dry or wet runways. These longer distances result from reduced acceleration during the takeoff ground run and reduced braking effectiveness during rejected takeoff and landing operations. The impact of contaminant type on braking effectiveness is shown on the “CONTAMINANT” correction grids. Rather than conduct flight testing to determine aircraft braking coefficients for the different runway conditions, Gulfstream has elected to use empirical braking coefficients detailed in the EASA requirements. The aircraft braking coefficient on a compacted snow runway is about 1/2 the dry runway braking coefficient. On a runway contaminated with standing water, slush or loose (wet or dry) snow, the aircraft braking coefficient is about 1/4 the dry runway braking coefficient. The braking coefficient on an icy runway (not melting) is about 1/8 of the dry runway braking coefficient. Finally, the runway condition should be declared “nil” when melting ice exists, and all takeoff and landing operations should be suspended until the runway condition is improved. The impact of contaminant depth on takeoff and landing distance is presented on the “RSC DEPTH” (Runway Surface Contamination in terms of equivalent water depth) correction grids. In general, the RSC Depth correction grids account for both tire displacement drag as the aircraft tires “plow” through a depth of contamination and the spray impingement drag that results when the nose gear spray impacts the airframe. As will be described below, tire displacement drag and spray impingement drag generally hurt takeoff performance and must be considered, while these same effects on landing performance are beneficial and don’t need to be considered. Measuring an effective contaminant depth is probably the most difficult and subjective part in determining takeoff or landing performance on contaminated runways. For the accelerate-stop takeoff operation, tire displacement drag and spray impingement drag hamper acceleration from brake release to the V; decision speed but assist the deceleration during the stopping G450-O1S-02 REVISION 1 (RE-ISSUE) Page 16 CONTAMINATED RUNWAY PERFORMANCE Aug 3/11 Gulfstream G450 OPERATIONAL INFORMATION SUPPLEMENT ADVISORY DATA ONLY — NOT FAA APPROVED G450-O1S-02 segment following V;. Hence the overall penalty to accelerate-stop performance is not too substantial. For the accelerate-go takeoff operation, tire displacement and spray impingement drag will resist acceleration from brake release to the liftoff point. If the contaminant depth is too high, it may not be possible to accelerate from V; to Vp on the thrust from one engine. For this reason, Gulfstream has created two separate RSC Depth correction grids for accelerate-go performance. One is for equivalent water depths from 3 mm (0.12 in) to 5 mm (0.2 in) with V; < Va (depths less than 3 mm (0.12 in) are considered “wet”, not contaminated). For equivalent water depths greater than 5 mm (0.2 in) but less 15 mm (0.6 in) (the maximum water depth allowed by EASA), it is recommended that the V; decision speed be set to Ve. While there will be a substantial distance penalty associated with using V; = Va, the aircraft will always be assured of being able to successfully accelerate to the liftoff point through the standing water, slush or loose snow (dry or wet). For landing operations, tire displacement and spray impingement drag are generally beneficial - they assist or add to the stopping performance of the aircraft. Because contaminant depth is generally beneficial for landing operations and because determining an effective contaminant depth is very subjective at best, Gulfstream has elected to not account for the beneficial aspects of contaminant depth for landing operations. As a result, above 3 mm (0.12 in), landing distances do not decrease with increasing RSC depth. While contaminant depth is generally beneficial for landing operations, if the touchdown speed is in excess of the hydroplaning speed (this occurs at higher weights, altitudes and temperatures), braking will not be as effective and there is a penalty to landing distance performance. This effect is evident on the RSC Depth correction grid at the higher landing field lengths (> 9000 FT) where there is a slight penalty to landing distance in going from a contaminant depth of 0 mm to 3 mm (0.12 in). EASA guidance material does not address multiple contaminant types such as loose snow covering compacted snow or slush (or standing water or loose snow) covering an icy runway. Pilots should be especially cautious about conducting takeoff and landing operations when multiple contaminant types are present. The RSC Depth and Contaminant Type correction grids were not intended to be used together. REVISION 1 (RE-ISSUE) G450-O1S-02 Aug 3/11 CONTAMINATED RUNWAY PERFORMANCE Page 17 Gulfstream G450 OPERATIONAL INFORMATION SUPPLEMENT G450-O1S-02 ADVISORY DATA ONLY — NOT FAA APPROVED Takeoff and landing operations on contaminated runways should be viewed with caution. The level of safety is decreased when operating on contaminated runways; therefore, every effort should be made to ensure that the runway surface is cleared of any significant contamination. Further, ground handling characteristics on contaminated runways will be impaired relative to operations on dry or wet runways, particularly when crosswinds are present and/or reverse thrust is used. New FAA Enroute Landing Distance Assessment In December 2005, a commercial airliner landed at Chicago Midway airport during a snowstorm and overran the runway. During their investigation of this accident, the NTSB (National Transportation Safety Board) determined that the OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) did not include any safety margin in its published contaminated runway data and the airborne portion of the computed landing distance was very aggressive/short. Additionally, the crew was not aware that the OEM published landing distance assumed a substantial benefit for the timely application of reverse thrust. In response to these findings, the FAA issued SAFO (Safety Alert For Operators) 06012 in August 2006 and “urgently recommended that operators of turbojet airplanes develop procedures for flight crews to assess landing distance performance based on conditions actually existing at time of arrival, as distinct from conditions presumed at time of dispatch. Once the actual landing distance is determined, an additional safety margin of at least 15% should be added to that distance.” This assessment should take into account meteorological conditions (airport pressure altitude, temperature and wind velocity), existing runway surface conditions and expected landing weight and configuration. This SAFO further detailed that the airborne portion of the actual landing distance should be based on realistic/operational assumptions as opposed to maximum effort techniques frequently used to establish certified AFM dry runway landing distances. In response to this SAFO, a 15% safety margin has been included in the computed contaminated runway landing distance data presented in this supplement. Because this SAFO is only applicable to Part 121, 135, 125 and 91K operators, a classic Part 91 operator is not impacted by this new enroute requirement, but.Part 91 operators are encouraged to check the computed landing distance on a contaminated runway to see if it is longer than the dispatch landing distance. G450-O1S-02 REVISION 1 (RE-ISSUE) Page 18 CONTAMINATED RUNWAY PERFORMANCE Aug 3/11 Gulfstream G4.50 OPERATIONAL INFORMATION SUPPLEMENT ADVISORY DATA ONLY — NOT FAA APPROVED G450-O1S-02 In addition to landings on contaminated runways, the SAFO indicates that operational landing distances on dry and wet runways should also be included so an enroute assessment can also be performed for these runway surface conditions. Computed dry runway distances may be needed because the initial dispatch assessment may have assumed the landing at the destination airport would be conducted on the longest runway, but prior to landing the crew are directed to use a shorter runway. Likewise, if the destination airport is dry during dispatch planning but becomes wet prior to landing, it may be necessary to recompute the required landing distance based on a wet runway landing distance. Computed dry and wet runway landing distance against the new enroute assessment are also presented in this OIS. Computed dry runway landing « » ince are identical to dry unfactored AFM landing distance and are based on both engines using forward idle thrust during the ground segment. Computed wet runway landing distance contained in this OIS are based on using the smooth, wet runway braking coefficient that is detailed in FAR 25.109 (accelerate-stop takeoff distance). For landing operations on a wet, grooved runway, data in this OIS will be conservative. Additionally, computed wet runway landing distances assume both engines at reverse idle thrust. Finally, like computed contaminated landing distances, computed dry and wet runway distances presented in this OIS contain a 15% safety margin. Dispatch versus Enroute Landing Distances All dispatch landing distances are a function of the unfactored, dry runway distance, operator status and runway surface condition. For dispatch, the runway surface condition is either specified as “dry” or “wet/slippery”. The term “slippery” is synonymous with the term “contaminated”. For FAA-certified aircraft, there are 2 categories of Part 91 operators. Companies that sell shares of airplanes to individuals are known as “fractional” or Part 91K operators, while private operators are simply known as Part 91 operators. A Part 91K operator is required to apply a factor of 1.25 for dry runway operations. (The 1.25 factor is equivalent to landing within 80% of the available landing distance.) For Part 91K operations on wet/slippery runways, the factored, dry runway distance must be increased by an additional 15% for a total factor of 1.44 (1.25 x 1.15) relative to the unfactored, dry runway distance. For landing operations on dry runways, Part 91 operators REVISION 14 (RE-ISSUE) G450-O1S-02 Aug 3/14 CONTAMINATED RUNWAY PERFORMANCE Page 19 Gulfstream G450 OPERATIONAL INFORMATION SUPPLEMENT G450-O1S-02 ADVISORY DATA ONLY — NOT FAA APPROVED are legal to land if the available landing distance is less than the unfactored, dry runway distance without any safety margin i.e. the factor is 1.0. For landing operations on wet/slippery runways, no additional penalty is specified, although Gulfstream recommends that at least a factor of 1.44 be applied to the unfactored, dry runway distance to accommodate the reduced braking effectiveness on these runway surfaces. There are 2 categories of Part 135 operators. Part 135 operators are classified as either Eligible On Demand (EOD) or non-EOD, based on the level of pilot training. A Part 135 non-EOD operator must use a factor of 1.67 for dry runway operations. (The 1.67 factor is equivalent to landing within 60% of the available landing distance. This is the same landing distance factor required of a commercial or Part 121 operator, or an EASA operator.) For Part 135 non-EOD operations on wet/slippery runways, the factored, dry runway distance must be increased by an additional 15% for a total factor of 1.92 (1.67 x 1.15) relative to the unfactored, dry runway distance. In general, pilots flying Part 135 EOD aircraft have the same level of training as Part 91K operators and are eligible to use the same operational factors on both dry and wet/slippery runways. EASA certified aircraft have several unique contaminated runway landing distance requirements. For dispatch, if the computed landing distance plus a 15% safety margin is less than the factored wet runway landing distance, the factored wet runway landing distance prevails. This primarily affects landing distances on runways covered with compacted snow where the computed distance plus a 15% safety margin is less than the factored wet runway distance. For other contaminant types, the computed landing distance plus a 15% safety margin is generally greater than the factored wet runway landing distance. While EASA doesn’t have a formal enroute landing distance requirement directly comparable to FAA SAFO 06012, EU OPS 1.400 establishes the following requirement: “Before commencing an approach to land, the commander must satisfy himself/herself that, according to the information available to him/her, the weather at the aerodrome and the condition of the runway intended to be used should not prevent a safe approach, landing or missed approach, having regard to the performance information contained in the Operations Manual.” Although this infers that no safety margin is required relative to the “operational” landing distance, EASA authorities have been consulted on this issue and recommend that a G450-O1S-02 REVISION 1 (RE-ISSUE) Page 20 CONTAMINATED RUNWAY PERFORMANCE Aug 3/14 Gulfstream G450 OPERATIONAL INFORMATION SUPPLEMENT ADVISORY DATA ONLY ~ NOT FAA APPROVED G450-O1S-02 1.15 safety factor be used against this requirement- same as the FAA. As described above, enroute landing distances must be based on the computed landing distance for the given runway surface condition. Additionally, adjustments should be made if certified air distances cannot be consistently demonstrated under operational conditions. For Part 91K and all Part 135 operators, SAFO 06012 also details that a 15% safety margin should be included. While this SAFO does not establish enroute requirements for a Part 91 operator, Gulfstream recommends that a landing should only be performed when the computed distance with no safety margin (factor = 1.0) is less than the available landing distance. T' is especially critical for Part 135 EOD and Part 91K operators where the wet/slippery runways provides little, if any, safety margin for operations on these runways surface conditions. For this reason, it is strongly recommended that dispatch planning also include an assessment of the enroute landing distance to ensure that the landing can be safely performed at the destination airport. When takeoff thrust has been established, release brakes. The airplane is accelerated to the V; decision speed, at which time an engine failure has been recognized (or the decision has been made to abort a twin engine takeoff) and pilot action is taken. At this point the airplane can either be: A. Accelerated to the Vz speed at which time rotation is initiated and acceleration is continued. For the engine failure/go case, the accelerate-go distance is computed to a 15-foot obstacle height and assumes the V, safety speed is attained by a height of 35 FT. For the twin engine/go case, the speed at 35 FT should be approximately V. + 10 KCAS. (The twin engine distance to 35 FT factored by 1.15 is less than the single engine distance to 15 FT.) B. Stopped by immediately closing both power levers, selecting maximum reverse thrust, and applying full anti-skid braking. (Ground spoiler deployment is automatically initiated by pulling the power levers to the idle/reverse thrust position). Maintain maximum reverse thrust to 80 KCAS. At 80 KCAS reduce power levers so reverse idle thrust is established by 60 KCAS (reverser doors still extended). Maintain reverse idle thrust on one or both engines to a complete stop. Contaminated runway takeoff distances have been compared to dry runway takeoff distances in AFM Section 5 to ensure that for the same conditions the contaminated distances presented in this appendix are never shorter. Additionally, contaminated takeoff distances are based on the single engine accelerate-stop case since this condition is more critical than the twin engine accelerate-stop case. Indicated takeoff distances are based on use of 1 engine in Maximum Reverse Thrust. Correction factors as a function of runway surface condition are provided in Table 4a on the next page, if one or both thrust reversers are inoperative. For the G450, the maximum crosswind demonstrated to the FAA on a dry runway was 24 KT. It should be noted that this is not a dry runway limit, but rather a maximum demonstrated value. Although Gulfstream has not conducted dedicated flight testing to determine crosswind capabilities for wet and contaminated runways, Transport Canada has published a generic chart that can be used to determine crosswind capabilities as a function of the runway surface condition. To use this chart, it is first necessary to enter Table 6a to determine the Canadian Runway Friction Index (CRFI) corresponding to a given contaminant type. Once the CRFI has been identified, the crosswind chart (Figure 1a) can be entered at this CRFI value to determine an allowable crosswind component. Note that the CFRI scale at the bottom of this chart has different scale intervals between .3 and .4 and between .6 and .7 when compared to the scale intervals on the rest of the CRFI scale. This is by design and not an error. The following example illustrates how to determine the allowable crosswind limit when taking off or landing on a runway covered by snow. Using Table 6a, the CRFI range for a snow-covered runway is between .25 and .30. From Figure 1a, the corresponding crosswind limit for this CRFI range is 5 to 10 KT. Graphical Data This section contains graphical takeoff and landing distance data. Contaminated Takeoff distance charts are presented in Figures 1b - 4b, while contaminated landing distance charts are presented in Figures 5b. While these graphical data are not especially user- friendly, they do offer several advantages over tabular data. These possible advantages are listed below: e For takeoff operations, it is possible to determine the highest V;, speed from which the aircraft can stop within the accelerate-stop distance and the lowest accelerate-go speed from which a takeoff is possible within the available takeoff distance. This can be especially useful if the takeoff is limited . / obstacle clearance issues where use of the highest V; speed is beneficial. * The graphical presentation of data enables more exact determination of required takeoff and landing distances for intermediate levels of weight, altitude and temperatures that are not presented in the tabular data. « For takeoff operations where the depth of standing water, slush or loose snow must be considered, the graphical data allows a solution at the given equivalent water depth, while the tabular solution is available for only two discrete equivalent water depth. e Several flight planning vendors have already used the graphical data in user-friendly computer programs to determine takeoff and landing distances on contaminated runways. e The graphical solution only involves several pages of charts, while the tabular solution requires many separate tables. The reference or baseline runway surface condition for both the presentation of takeoff and landing contaminated runway performance is standing water, slush or loose snow with a depth of 0. Because the braking coefficient for this baseline runway surface condition is less than a runway considered “wet” (equivalent water less than 3 mm (0.12 in)), it is not appropriate to use this baseline runway surface condition to determine “wet” runway performance. REVISION 1 (RE-ISSUE) G450-O1S-02 Aug 3/11 CONTAMINATED RUNWAY PERFORMANCE Page 29 Gulfstream G450 OPERATIONAL INFORMATION SUPPLEMENT G450-O1S-02 ADVISORY DATA ONLY — NOT FAA APPROVED For accelerate-go takeoff performance, 2 RSC Depth grids are provided. If the equivalent water depth is between 3 mm (0.12 in.) and 5 mm (0.2 in.), use the RSC Depth correction grid labeled “V, < Va" to get the best/shortest accelerate-go distance. If the equivalent water depth is between 5 mm (0.2 in.) and 15 mm (0.6 in.), use the RSC Depth correction grid labeled “V; = Vg” to ensure the takeoff can be safely executed. For accelerate-stop takeoff performance, there is only one RSC correction grid which should be used regardless of the chosen V, speed. Indicated graphical landing distances on contaminated runways have been increased by 15 percent. It is no longer necessary to assess the depth of standing water, slush or loose snow for landing operations on contaminated runways. If the equivalent water depth is greater than 3 mm (0.12 in.), there is a slight penalty to landing distance when the touchdown speed is greater than hydroplaning speed; otherwise, any benefit for depths greater than 3 mm (0.12 in.) has been eliminated. Finally, contaminated runway landing distance performance assumes both engines and thrust reversers are operational. Like takeoff performance on contaminated runways, correction factors are provided if one or both thrust reversers are inoperative. The given slush depth must first be converted to an equivalent depth of standing water. Using the data in the equivalency depth Table 1a, 5 mm (0.20 in) of slush is equal to 4 mm (0.16 in) of standing water. 2. Enter the EFFECTIVE RUNWAY LENGTH (ERL) REQUIRED chart at a temperature of 2° C, a pressure altitude of 2000 FT and a gross weight of 72,000 LB to determine an ERL value of 7000 FT. 3. Enter the bottom of the ACCELERATE-STOP DISTANCE chart with an accelerate-stop distance = 8900 FT (8800-foot runway length + 100-foot stopway). Using only the RSC depth correction grid for 4 mm (0.16 in) of standing water, determine a reference accel-stop distance = 8400 FT. 4. Enter the bottom of the ACCELERATE-GO DISTANCE chart with an accelerate-go distance = 8800 FT (no credit can be taken for the existing clearway on a contaminated runway). Using only the RSC depth correction grid for 4 mm (0.16 in) of standing water, determine a reference accel-go distance = 6400 FT. 5. On the RUNWAY LENGTH AND V1 ADJUSTMENTS chart, construct a line on the chart with ERL = 7100 FT. The highest ViIVR ratio allowed without exceeding the Reference Accel-stop distance = 8400 FT is 0.85, and the lowest V1/VR ratio allowed without exceeding the reference accel-go distance = 6400 FT is 0.85. 6. From AFM Section 5, the VR speed for the given conditions is 142.5 KCAS. In this example, VstoP = VGo = 121 KCAS (0.85 x 142.5). \f Vstop is increased beyond 121 KCAS, the accelerate-stop distance required will exceed the accelerate- stop distance available, and if VGo is reduced below 121 KCAS, the accelerate-go distance required will exceed the accelerate- go distance available. Note that this point lies on the V;/Vp = 0.80 line. Since the Reference Accel-stop distance cannot exceed 7200 FT, find the intersection of the Reference Accel- stop =7200 FT line and the minimum V;/Vp = 0.80 line. This intersection occurs at an ERL value of 6600 FT. If the intersection of the Reference Accel-stop distance and Reference Accel-go distance lies to the tight of the V\/Vg =1.0 lines, use the intersection of the Reference Accel-go distance and the Vi/Vg = 1.0 line to determine a limiting ERL value. . On the EFFECTIVE RUNWAY LENGTH REQUIRED chart, at a temperature of -12° C, a pressure altitude of 4000 FT and an ERL value of 6600 FT, read a limiting weight of 67,800 LB. (Had this weight been in excess of the AFM Section 1 limiting takeoff gross weight, the takeoff weight would be restricted to AFM Section 1 limiting takeoff gross weight.) . From AFM Section 5, determine the VR speed for these conditions to be 139.0 KCAS. Therefore, the highest decision speed (VsTop) is 111.2 KCAS (0.80 x 139.0). The Vice speed for this case is 110.0 KCAS. (VsToP can never be greater than Vr and VGo can never be less than 0.80 x VR or Vics, which- ever is greater.) Hence, in this example, VstoP = VGo = 111.2 KCAS. All other AFM Section 5 performance data and limits are applicable. Tabular Data This section contains tabular takeoff and landing distance data. Tabular takeoff data are contained for the following 4 contaminant types and/or depths: compacted snow (Tables 1c-11c); ice (Tables 12c-22c); standing water, slush or loose snow (Tables 23c-33c) with the equivalent water depth between 3 mm (0.12 in.) and 5 mm (0.2 in.); and standing water, slush or loose snow (Tables 34c-44c) with the equivalent water depth between 5 mm (0.2 in.) and 15 mm (0.6 in.). Separate tables are presented for different pressure altitudes, and at each pressure altitude, the tabular data are a function of aircraft weight and temperature. The lack of data at higher weights and temperatures indicate conditions where performance is restricted by climb limits, brake energy limits or tire speed limits. For a given weight, altitude, temperature, contaminant type and RSC depth, the Section B and Section C data may not be in exact agreement as the Section B graphical data does contain additional conservatism that is not included in the Section C tabular data. For the compacted snow data, the indicated takeoff distance is generally a Balanced Field Length distance with V; between Vince and Ve. The icy runway table data is based on an accelerate-stop distance with V; = Vimec. If the equivalent water depth is between 3 mm (0.12 in.) and 5 mm (0.2 in), a Balanced Field Length solution is again presented with V; between Vinco and Ve. Finally, if the equivalent water depth is between 5 mm (0.2 in.) and 15 mm (0.6 in.), the required takeoff distance is based on the accelerate- stop distance with V; = Vg. While this last assumption results in a large increase in takeoff distance, it is necessary to ensure that the takeoff can be safely executed. The basic contaminated runway takeoff distance charts assume 0 wind, 0 runway slope, ECS Bleeds On and no anti-ice bleeds. Corrections to contaminated runway takeoff performance for wind, runway slope and anti-ice bleeds are provided in a series of correction grids at the end of the tabular takeoff data, Figure 1c. Tabular landing distance performance data are provided for both the dispatch assessment and the enroute assessment. Tabular landing distance tables are presented in Tables 45c - 47c. Table 45c presents AFM unfactored dry landing distance. This distance is then used to either determine the required dispatch landing distance as a function of operating status (Table 46c) or to REVISION 1 (RE-ISSUE) G450-O1S-02 Aug 3/11 CONTAMINATED RUNWAY PERFORMANCE Page 41 Gulfstream G450 OPERATIONAL INFORMATION SUPPLEMENT G450-O1S-02 ADVISORY DATA ONLY — NOT FAA APPROVED determine the required enroute landing distance as a function of runway surface condition (Table 47c.). The dispatch landing distance is a function of the AFM unfactored dry runway distance, the runway surface condition (dry or wet/slippery) and the operating status i.e. Part 135 non-EOD and EASA; Part 135 EOD and Part 91K; and Part 91. For dispatch landing distances, it is not necessary to account for runway slope or temperature effects since the operational factors should account for these effects. NOTE: When dispatching to wet or contaminated runways, it is strongly recommended that the dispatch distance be checked against the enroute distance and use the longer of these two distances. There are many cases where the dispatch distance may be less than the enroute distance even when the runway surface conditions don’t change enroute. The enroute landing distance is also presented as a function of the AFM unfactored dry runway distance and runway surface condition. For the enroute assessment, the following runway surface conditions are presented: dry, wet, depth < 3 mm; compacted snow; standing water, slush or loose snow, depth > 3 mm; and ice. All of the enroute landing distances include a safety margin of 15% above the computed distance for that runway type. Dry enroute landing distances are based on the use of forward idle thrust on both engines, while wet and contaminate+ runway landing distances assume reverse idle thrust on both er | ies. Takeoff Example Find: Required field length and takeoff speeds for the following conditions: Given: Type of contaminant: Slush Depth of contaminant: 7 mm (0.28 in.) Pressure altitude = 500 FT Air temperature = 5° C Wind = 10-KT headwind Runway slope = +1% (uphill) Configuration: Flaps 20, Auto Speed Brakes, Anti-Skid op No clearway or stopway Engine bleeds = ON G450-O1S-02 REVISION 1 (RE-ISSUE) Page 42 CONTAMINATED RUNWAY PERFORMANCE Aug 3/11 Gulfstream G450 OPERATIONAL INFORMATION SUPPLEMENT ADVISORY DATA ONLY — NOT FAA APPROVED G450-O1S-02 No anti-ice bleed Reverse thrust operative Takeoff gross weight = 70,000 LB Solution: 1. The given slush depth must first be converted to an equivalent depth of standing water. Using the data in the equivalent depth table (Table 1a), 7 mm (0.28 in.) of slush is equal to 6 mm (0.24 in.) of standing water. 2. Use following contaminated runway takeoff table to get solution for 0 wind, 0 slope and no anti-ice: Standing Water, Slush & Loose Snow, Equivalent Water Depth 5 to 15 mm, V; = Vp, pressure altitude = 1000 FT — Flaps 20. Using the next higher pressure altitude (1000 FT) with weight 70,000 LB and temperature 5° C, determine the following takeoff field length and takeoff speeds: Field Length = 9760 FT, V; = 140 KCAS, Vp = 140 KCAS and V2 = 145 KCAS. (If slightly lower field length is needed, interpolation for altitude, weight and/or temperature is permissible.) 3. Enter the chart of Corrections for Tabular Contaminated Runway Takeoff Data to correct the tabular Field Length of 9760 FT for wind effects (10-KT headwind) and slope effects (+1% uphill slope) to determine a final Corrected Field Length of 12,200 FT. Since reverse thrust is operative in this example, no additional correction is required if one or both TRs are inoperative. Landing Example Find: Required dispatch landing distance and enroute landing distance for the following conditions. The enroute landing distance assumes that conditions at the destination airport have not changed while flying the mission. Given: Operator status: Part 135 EOD (Eligible On Demand) REVISION 1 (RE-ISSUE) G450-O1S-02 Aug 3/11 CONTAMINATED RUNWAY PERFORMANCE Page 43 Gulfstream G450 OPERATIONAL INFORMATION SUPPLEMENT G450-O1S-02 ADVISORY DATA ONLY - NOT FAA APPROVED Type of contaminant: Compacted snow Pressure altitude = 8000 FT Temperature = -21° C (ISA-20° C) Wind = 20-KT headwind Runway slope = -1% (downhill) Landing gross weight = 60,000 LB Configuration: Flaps 39, auto speedbrakes, anti-skid op Threshold speed = VREF + 5 KCAS Reverse thrust operative Solution: 1. Enter Dry Runway AFM/FMS Landing Distance table at weight of 60,000 LB and airport pressure altitude of 8000 FT and determine unfactored landing field length of 3675 FT. Correct this distance for 5-KT threshold speed increase (+5.5%) and 20-KT headwind (-8%) to determine a corrected, unfactored landing distance of 3583 FT (3675 + .055x3675 - .08x3675). It is not necessary to correct for temperature or runway slope. 2. To determine the required dispatch landing distance, enter the Dispatch Landing Distance table with a Dry AFM/FMS Distance = 3600 FT and determine a Wet/Slippery (for dispatch, a compacted snow runway is considered a slippery runway) distance of 5184 FT required for a Part 135 EOD operator. 3. To determine the required enroute landing distance, enter the Enroute Landing Distance table with a Dry AFM/FMS Distance = 3600 FT and determine a compacted snow landing distance of 5880 FT. Further correct for temperature effects (-6%) and slope effects (+11%) and determine a corrected enroute landing distance of 6174 FT (5880 - .06x5880 + .11x5880). Since reverse thrust is operative in this example, no additional correction is required if one or both TRs are inoperative. NOTE: In this case where the destination runway conditions did not change from the dispatch assessment to the enroute assessment, the required dispatch landing distance is 5184 FT, but the required enroute landing distance is 6174 FT. In many instances, it is possible to legally dispatch to a destination airport and then not be able to land at that same airport based on the new enroute landing distance requirement.
