I. Starting Questions:
To prepare writing your personal review, select the appropriate, personal ending for each statement. I
suggest writing the phrase out, such as 1 The Last Lecture is a... to make it easier to move into the next
phase. The statements are:
2. It was...
a. a great pick for this class and goes well with the notions of creativity and imagination
b. an okay pick for this class and mostly works with our imagination and creativity items
c. an awful pick for the class and has no relevance
- This book was a great pick or the class because many of our assignments require creativity and
imagination. Randy caused me to branch out in my mind and form creative thoughts about dreams. The
book had many moments where he spoke about his imagination and its importance. The way the book
made me get in tune with myself, further helped me in my assignments.
3. I...
a. learned from reading the book
b. learned some from reading the book
c. learned nothing from the book
-
I learned that you control how you view your life and taking it for granted is unacceptable. If you wake up
and say, I am going to have a bad day you will. If Randy can carry on the way he did, I can do better
because I have no right to take life for granted when others lives are being taken too soon.
6. Three word answers are among the most powerful responses possible. We'll find out why, next week.
Jot down the first three words which come to your mind when you think about the text:
1.Inspiraitional
2.Emotional
3.Impowering

First paragraph:
- Opening statement discussing why I enjoyed the book and that I would recommend it to
someone else.
- State my three reasons briefly
Second Paragraph
- Reason number one; why I would recommend this book to someone and why I enjoyed it.
Randy in the chapter Getting to Zero G he teaches me that everyone needs a goal and they
should never dream small.
- Reason two; My second reason would focus on how Randy tells me that the cancer has
returned and has a new outlook on life. This is found in the chapter The Park is Open Until
8PM. I enjoy using this example as a reason to read this book because the advice he gives
is amazing. He lets me know that its all about how you view life.
Paragraph three:
- This paragraph will have my last example as well as my conclusion to the entire review.
- The third example: from the chapter Lucy Im Home taught me a lesson about the small
things in life may seem like inconveniences but they are not. I feel everyone can learn from
how he handled the dent in his car.
- Closing statement on again why I would recommend this book and how much I enjoyed it.

the book and that I would recommend it to someone else.
- State my three reasons briefly

Fourth Paragraph:
- The third example: from the chapter Lucy Im Home taught me a lesson about the small

Fifth Paragraph:
- Closing statement on again why I would recommend this book and how much I enjoyed it.

1. Did you feel that the six questions, used as a lead-in, were helpful to starting your own composition?
Why so/Why not?
I do think they helped me because I enjoy having some type of outline when I go to write. If have nothing
to bounce back off of I end up having writers block and get frustrated
2. What do you see as pros and cons of the traditional Three Paragraph Format?
3. What do you see as pros and cons of the Alternative Composition Format?
Pro is that I have been writing this way for years so it flows onto the paper naturally. Anytime you go to
write you automatically lay it out in this form.
Con is yes, it is outplayed and very old so it does get boring when you use the same format years on end
I enjoy the tradition even though it is so outdated because it is so natural. I have been writing this way for
almost a decade and it come so easy to make this type of outline
5. What is your opinion of creating two outlines instead of two essays? Why?
I like two outlines because I make a quick outline before writing anyways. Also, I would take a while to
write both in complete essays and then compare them.
