LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION

MAIKA NAGATA

May 2, 2017

To Whom It May Concern:

Working with students takes patience, compassion, and commitment. Maika Nagata has demonstrated these
qualities and more. He is hard-working and will be an asset to any school and community that is fortunate to
have him on its staff in any capacity.

During the time that he had been at Palolo Elementary School, Maika worked with my fourth grade students
in several positions. His main teaching position was physical education part-time teacher for all grades K-5.
He is knowledgeable of movement education, skills development, and team sports concepts, and provides
grade appropriate lessons. He is able to adapt lessons to meet the needs of two my special needs students
when necessary. He has good time-management and organization skills that allow my students maximum use
of their time with him. As a former physical education resource teacher, I am confident that Maika will be an
asset in the physical education department of any school.

Math Club Advisor for fourth and fifth graders was another position Maika held at Palolo Elementary. Based
on what I had heard from my students about their meetings and had seen as practice worksheets/assignments,
I believe he had high expectations for the students and challenged them to learn math concepts that will
enable them to perform well in future math competitions.

Maika was also an after-school tutor for several of my students, in which he helped them complete
homework assignments, specifically in reading and math. These students seemed to have had an easier time
understanding discussions and assignments during instructional time.

Students looked forward to their time with Maika. Whenever I passed by the Math Club sessions, I saw and
heard them conversing easily and respectfully with him. He showed good rapport and got along well with the
students, whether it was the math club, physical education, or tutoring. He has also demonstrated that he can
be firm and in-charge when needed.

As a staff member of Palolo School, I have found Maika to be very professional in all his positions. He is
very dedicated to his jobs and is committed to providing and challenging the students to be the best they can
be. He has shown to be dependable, conscientious, and flexible in all areas, as well as demonstrating
appropriate attire, language, behaviors, and attitudes.

I have no reservations in recommending Maika Nagata as a staff member for any school system. He has
much to offer to our education system and our community.

Sincerely,

Anita Silva
