1 General information
The P132 P139 feeder protection test template is used for testing protection functions of the AREVA P132
and P139 relays dedicated to feeders. This template comprehends various modules for testing the most
important protection functions. It is designed and configured for use with the AREVA P132 P139 XRIO
converter which is included in this template. For more information about the converter, see the user
manual of the AREVA P132 P139 XRIO Converter.
Note: The template is designed and built for the applications of the Test Universe 2.30 software or higher.
Annotations:
Although this template is developed particularly for the relays specified above, it can also be used
for testing similar protection relays of the P132 or P139 line.
The OMICRON PTTs are designed for an experienced OMICRON user. The use of the Test
Universe software, the XRIO technology with LinkToXRIO should be familiar (see
http://www.omicron.at/products/training/ for training information).
5. Open the Hardware Configuration and enter all necessary information for:
a. General
b. Analog Outputs
c. Binary / Analog Inputs
d. Binary Outputs
e. DC Analog Inputs
6. Follow the wiring instructions.
7. Start testing.
8. Evaluate and archive the results.
Note: The XRIO converter doesnt support the Operating curves type IDG.
For more information, see the AREVA P132 P139 XRIO converter user manual.
Note: If higher currents are needed for testing (e.g. relays with Inom = 5 A), the current output
configuration can be adapted.
In the Analog Outputs dialog box, the voltage and current outputs have to be routed to the name
variables. The figure 3 shows the Analog Outputs configuration.
The current output A is used for the phase currents (IA, IB and IC). Only the first channel from the current
output B is used for the IN CT (residual overcurrent).
Note: The binary inputs are preset to potential free. Change these predefined settings to the values
needed at the test site.
Route the signals configured in the Binary / Analog Inputs dialog as shown in the next figure:
Note: The circuit breaker auxiliary contact (52a) is required for the trip test with the circuit breaker. If the
circuit breaker auxiliary contact cannot be connected to the binary input, the trip test with the circuit
breaker cannot be performed.

4 Requirements
To use this template, you must have a valid test license for the OMICRON Test Universe 2.30 or higher
and the following test modules:
Control Center
Quick CMC
Ramping
State Sequencer
Overcurrent
To use this template, a CMC with six current outputs is necessary. The development tests were
performed with a CMC256plus.
5 Functional range
The test modules are grouped according to the tested protection function. The P132 P139 feeder
protection test template includes OMICRON test modules for the following tests:
Pick-up and drop-off of:
o Phase overcurrent protection
o Calculated residual overcurrent protection
o Measured residual overcurrent protection
o Negative sequence overcurrent protection
Trip time of:
o Phase overcurrent protection forward and reverse
o Calculated residual overcurrent protection forward and reverse
o Measured residual overcurrent protection forward and reverse
o Negative sequence overcurrent protection
o Thermal overload protection
Directional element test of :
o Phase overcurrent protection forward and reverse
o Calculated residual protection forward and reverse
o Measured residual overcurrent protection forward and reverse
Trip time with circuit breaker contacts
The test modules are activated and deactivated automatically according to the corresponding protection
function status in the test object.
The P132 P139 feeder protection test template can be extended by the user to allow testing the protection
functions currently not supported. It is possible to add any test module to the existing templates. The
additional test modules will not affect the template. The LinkToXRIO option can also be used to activate or
deactivate automatically the new test module.
7 OMICRON philosophy
The P132 P139 feeder protection test template includes the pick-up and trip time value tests which are
performed in a standardized way. For the pick-up and drop-off value test, the setting value is evaluated by
a ramp increasing the variable under test until the pick-up value is reached. The test of drop-off values is
done in a similar way by decreasing the tested value until the drop-off value is reached.
Trip times are tested by simulating a fault which exceeds the pick-up value and the specific tolerances.
This results in a trip command of the tested protection function. The time between the simulation of the
fault and the reception of the trip signal is measured and evaluated.
Note: Do not only rely on the automatic assessment of test points in the test modules. Check the
plausibility of all test results manually to gain maximum security that all test results are reliable.
8 Template structure
The structure of the P132 P139 feeder protection test template is shown below.
Note: For the trip time tests using the OMICRON Overcurrent module:
a. Test shots are previously defined. Check if these points are suitable and adapt them manually
if necessary;
b. In the Fault tab, Fault Settings area, the Absolute max. time is preset to 1.0ks in case the first
stage is an Inverse curve. If testing with bigger trip times is required, remove the LinkToXRIO
and adjust this value. In case all the stages are definite time ones, the Absolute max. time will
be set automatically.
Please note that the values of the residual current and voltage are scaled with the phase CT and phase
VT ratios.
The test has to be started by pressing the F5-Button and after reading the values out of the relay this
button has to be pressed again. By using the F10-Button the test can be rated as "passed" or "failed". You
have to leave the QuickCMC module by hand to return to the OCC-file.
Note: If one of the thermal overload stages tests are not required or cannot be tested (e.g. the warning
signal is not available) remove the link and uncheck the test module.
Note: The phase overcurrent protection stages may interfere with this test. To avoid any interference, the
overcurrent function needs to be blocked.
If a residual overcurrent stage is active in the non-directional mode, it will be visible in both the forward
and reverse test modules. However, if all stages are selected as non-directional, only the forward test
module is activated.
The resulting characteristic for all active stages for each operating mode and direction is drawn and the
test shots are set at 1.1 IPickup for all active stages and additionally at 0.9 IPickup for stages 2 and 3.
The trip time for each test point is measured and evaluated. Test points can be adapted if necessary.
Note: Only one of the stages in each direction can have an inverse definite minimum time (IDMT)
characteristic. The others must have a definite time characteristic.
Note: Only one of the stages can have an inverse definite minimum time (IDMT) characteristic. The other
stage must have a definite time characteristic.
