IUPUIs ENL program has completely changed the way that I view myself as a teacher.

Before my ENL coursework, I understood the importance of differentiating instruction for all of

my students, but thought that would be enough to reach them all.

As my attached artifact suggests, through use of the Six Standards of Effective Pedagogy,

I am now aware that I can best support that language and literacy development of all students by

making learning a social process and engaging students in JPAs and Instructional Conversations.

Not only are these practices educative, but they also promote relationships between students and

their peers as well as myself.

The Six Standards of Effective Pedagogy have allowed me to embrace taking a critical

stance in my classroom and have equipped me to foster relationships with my students that I

would never have been able to otherwise.
