Microteach II Lesson Plan Devin Lewis

Lesson Title/Topic: The rotation of the earth on its axis and revolution around the sun

Grade level: Science, Grade 5

Target Concept: The rotation of the earth causing day and night and its tilt and revolution around the
sun causing seasons

Standards/Rationale: 112.16 (b) (8) Earth and space. The student knows that there are recognizable
patterns in the natural world and among the Sun, Earth, and Moon system. The student is expected to:
(C) Demonstrate that Earth rotates on its axis once approximately every 24 hours causing the
day/night cycle and the apparent movement of the Sun across the sky.

Lesson Objectives: Assessment: TSW

By drawing and labeling a chart of their own Design, draw, and label a chart of the earths
design, students will be able to demonstrate rotation and revolution
their understanding of the rotation and
revolution of the earth around the sun.

The students will be able to demonstrate their

knowledge of the earth's rotation on its axis
and its revolution through a full orbit around
the sun.

Materials: 36 inch 2-D paper sun, globe or inflatable Earthball, flashlight,

Surfer on-a-stick, Whitehouse on-a-stick.

What about seasons? Would we want to have
the same weather every day?
