Context

All participants involved in this survey are adult ESOL instructors that have been

teaching adult ESOL learners for more than one year. Instructors with different educational and

teaching backgrounds were solicited in order to have as many perspectives as possible. This is an

important component of the study because individual meaning may be different depending on

their teaching context, background, and educational history. Participants were selected for this

study based on the demographic of students they are currently teaching. This means that

participants in this study needed to be currently teaching adult ESOL learners in order to

preserve the specific interest of this study: exploring ESOL teachers perceptions regarding

affective elements of adult ESOL classrooms.
