Year 7: Rap Music Composition

Your task is to create a rap for your end of year performance assessment.
Choose one of the stories below for the basis of your rap

Story One
A girl is being teased about
the way she looks by other
girls in her form.
Start the rap with: This is a
Story Two
story about a girl called
A boy is regularly being
beaten up by another group
of boys older than him. They
steal his money/mobile
phone.

Story Three Start the rap with: This is a


story about a boy called
A brother and sister are being
followed home by the same
boy every night. The boy
stares at them in school when
he sees them.
Start the rap with: This is a
story about some kids.

Chrous sections: 4 lines


Give advice to those who are being bullied.

Evaluating work.
Assessment evaluation guide:
What you did? (WYD) E.g: I played the melody to Ode to Joy while my partner
played the accompaniment (left hand).

WWW? E.g. I was able to find a play the notes correctly and my performance
sounded like Ode to Joy

EBI: e.g: My performance lacked fluency. I had to keep stopping to find the
notes. Next time, I will spend more time trying to memorise my piece of
music rather than relying on the worksheet. This might help to improve my
fluency if Im more familiar with the song.

Main Task and Plenary


Once the students have been given 25 mins to create their first verse and chorus,
ask them to perform (rap) their work to their peers.

They should then create an evaluation of the work they have created today. This
should be on a new blank page (date and title Rap Project)

3) Did you all work together?
4) What steps do you need to take next lesson to progress your work?

Students should copy out each of the questions into their book and
generate a response.
Extension: If students have created their first verse, they can create a second
verse (following the same rhyming rules) which expands on the story of their rap.
They may even want to create a contrasting chorus.
