HVE Observation
My day at Hardin Valley Elementary, in overall, was great. There weren't necessarily any

bad experiences, just small surprising moments. After this day, teaching at elementary level is

definitely in my list of career choices. From what I saw, it may look easy but with so many kids

it can be difficult, but not impossible.

First they start with C.A.R.E, which stands for Children Achieving Reading Excellence.

At the moment they are learning phonics and abbreviations. Along with this, they learn writing

and reading which helps them memorize rules to vocabulary. What I like mostly, is how

smoothly they transition from lesson to lesson.

Since C.A.R.E is the core lesson, everything they do follows it and it all connects in some

way. What I really liked about this portion is that everything they learn in C.A.R.E they put into

practice. They did not only do this in paper, but theu actually participate in Hands-On activities.

Almost at half way through the day, all the children go to encore. Different groups go to

different places. Some go to art, music, computer, etc. This is just a little break from the

classroom. What I like about encore, is that they don't go to the same class everyday and that

they come back to the classroom, learning something new.

Next, they go to lunch and then to recess. In this next part, I could really see how

everyone gets along. They all try to eat and play together. It was really entertaining to watch how

smaller children get along and do everything together.

For a short amount of time after recess, they have HawkTime. In this portion, the teacher

read them a book, while they color and listen. Lastly, they have math. For this they went to

another classroom while I stayed behind and observed the teacher. While the class went to math,

the teacher had other kids come in and practice their phonics.
