Independent Reading Project #6

5/4/17

1.) Arthur Dent wakes up to find a bulldozer in his yard. His house is
going to be torn down for a road, thats just the beginning of a very
crappy day. He now realizes that his day is just going to go downhill
from here.

2.) Arthur goes to the bar, the Horse and Groom Inn, with Ford Prefect, Ford tells him that
the world is going to end. Oh, he also just casually mentions that he is not a human, but
an alien.

3.) Zaphod steals the Heart of Gold. While this is happening, the Earth is
demolished by Vagons. Right before the Earth is obliterated, Ford and
Arthur sneak onto a Vagon ship. They literally get on the ship seconds
before Earth explodes.

4.) The Vagon King read poetry to Ford and Arthur. Shortly later orders them to be thrown
off the ship. The King doesnt like hitchhikers, so they are thrown off the ship to die in the
cold interstellar world.

5.) The Heart of Gold, sailed by Fords kinda-cousin Zaphod picks up Arthur and Ford. They
also meet Marvin, the depressed robot. They are also picked up by
Trillian, who is human.

6.) The ship is almost destroyed by nuclear missiles; luckily they set the ship
to Improbability Drive. In the process, they save them from explosion and
death. They also pick up Ford and Arthur.

7.) Then The Heart of Gold finds Magrathea. Which is basically a planet for
the fancy rich people. Although the planet Magrathea disappeared a while
ago. For some reason Zaphod wants to find it, hes not really sure why though. They go
exploring and leave Arthur and Ford on the surface.

8.) Arthur and Ford meets this person from Magrathea named Slartibartfast, he explains the
truth about Earth. That Earth is a huge computer made to find the question that would
give meaning to life.
9.) The people that ordered Earth already know the answer to the question 42. The
problem is that they dont know the question that the answer 42 is to. Although they think
that since Arthur is the last human from Earth they can get the answer from chopping up
his brain.
10.) Slartibartfast explains the significance of mice, how they are not just furry little
creatures. Mice are the ones who build Deep Thought and order and work Earth so they
can solve the problem of life and pretty much everything else.

11.) They ask Deep Thought what the meaning of life is and tells them 42. Deep Thought
also tells them how to build a supercomputer that will tell them the ultimate question.

12.) The mice then try to catch Arthur to dissect his brain because they believe that would
tell them the problem of life. Luckily Arthur and the others escape but are confronted by
Blugalon guards.

13.) Marvin depresses the guards oxygen supply and they all die, they escape and are
forced to leave on The Heart of Gold. After they escape from Magrathea they all decide
to go to the Restaurant at the End of the Universe.
