Return Procedure
In the event that it becomes necessary to return this product or part of this product to
Mindray, the following procedure should be followed:
1 Obtain return authorization: Contact the Mindray Service Department and
obtain a Customer Service Authorization (Mindray) number. The Mindray
number must appear on the outside of the shipping container. Returned
shipments will not be accepted if the Mindray number is not clearly visible.
Please provide the model number, serial number, and a brief description of
the reason for return.
2 Freight policy: The customer is responsible for freight charges when this
product is shipped to Mindray for service (this includes customs charges).
3 Return address: Please send the part(s) or equipment to the address offered

1.2 Moving Parts


The moving parts in the apparatus are the microplate support and the filter wheel.

The microplate support holds the microplate and moves it to the measuring
position.

The support can move in two mode, Step and Continuous.

The filter wheel rotates the filter of corresponding wavelength to the optical path
according to the setting.

1 Ensure the installation field in the hospital is available. Refer to the Operation
Manual for installation space, power supply, environmental requirements, etc.
2 Go to the installation site. Check the delivery list and unpack the package.
3 Move the system in place.
4 Open the enclosure to check if cable and screws are loose or disconnected.
5 Connect the system to the power socket with the power cable.
6 Turn on the system.
7 The system begins self-check and prompt information appears on the screen.
Check if any warning message appears on the screen and hear if there is
abnormal sound from moving parts.
8 Train users.

3.1 Lamp Housing Assembly


The lamp housing assembly is shown as the figure below. The lamp is located and
fixed by an extension spring, which is not shown in the figure below.

Do not remove the spring pins, which are pressed into the lamp housing, and the
magnet, which is stuck in the lamp housing, from the housing unless they are
damaged.

Before removing the convex lens, unscrew the plug screw first. After placing the lens
back or replacing it with a new one, be sure to tighten the plug screw.

When removing the lamp from the housing or placing it into the housing, be sure to
pinch the lamp tightly to avoid the lamp damage caused by spring force. When
disassembling the lamp, take out the lamp along with the lamp base from the
housing and then remove the lamp from the base; When assembling the lamp, install
the lamp on the base and then place it into the housing.

The assembly is located on the bottom cover of the system by two spring pins. Its
position should not be adjusted.

To replace the optical coupler, disassemble the bracket first.

Be sure to disassemble optical fibers before replacing the lenses. When


disassembling lenses, you can use a cylinder to push out the diaphragm, lens and
retainer ring together from the inside. When assembling them, you can use a flat
object such as the handle of a screwdriver to push the retainer rings into the box.
The diaphragm can touch the flat surface of lens with either side. Do not
disassemble the retainer rings often to avoid their performance degradation. Be sure
to check if the retainer rings match the lenses well after each installation. If not,
replace them with new ones.

Dust accumulated on the lenses may degrade system performance. You can use a
gas bag or a soft brush to remove dust. Before cleaning, disassemble the microplate
holder assembly to expose the lens.

Before disassembling the optical fiber assembly, dissemble the optical fiber box
assembly first. When fixing the fibers, place their ends close to the inside surface of

box and do not use excessive force to tighten the retaining screws. Add some
specific cohesive material on the screws to secure them.

There is no need to maintain the filter wheel shaft unless it cannot be pushed or
pulled in the axial direction with its retaining screw removed.

The optical fiber box assembly is located on the bottom cover of the system by two
spring pins. Its position should not be adjusted.

3.3 Filter Wheel Assembly


The filter wheel assembly is shown as the figure below.

Do not remove the iron, which is pressed into the filter wheel, from the wheel unless
it is damaged. To take out the iron from the wheel, use a column such as the handle
of a screwdriver to push it out from the bigger side of the wheel.

Replace filters when their performance degrade. Before replacing them, release the
screws and remove the press plate and then pressure springs. Be sure to place
filters into their corresponding holes in the wheel according to the wavelengths
labeled on them and make their wider sides face the wheel bottom. Exercise caution
to prevent filters from being stained or damaged. Then place blocks into the other
holes with their sides having apertures facing the wheel bottom. Finally, place
pressure springs and the press plate back, aim the three holes in the press plate at
any three ones in the wheel, and then tighten the screws.

The three diaphragms are different with the largest one for 450nm, the smallest one
for 630nm, and the last one for 492nm. You can place a diaphragm with its either
side facing a filter.

Dust accumulated on the filter wheel may degrade its performance. Use a gas bag
or a soft brush to clean it.

Be sure to install the lamp housing assembly and the optical fiber box assembly
before installing the filter wheel assembly. The location of filter wheel assembly is
fixed automatically by the filter wheel shaft on the optical fiber box assembly and the
magnet in the lamp housing assembly.

After installing the filter wheel assembly, be sure to check if it rotates smoothly. If not,
find out the problem and resolve it.

3.4 Filter Wheel Motor Assembly


The filter wheel motor assembly is shown as the figure below.

The gear is plastic. Replace the gear when it is damaged. Use diagonal cutting pliers
to cut the hub and replace the gear with a new one. The spring pin cannot be used
any more and be sure to replace it with a new one.

Install the filter wheel motor assembly after the lamp housing assembly, the optical
fiber box assembly and the filter wheel assembly are installed.

Adjust the location of the filter wheel motor assembly when installing it to make the
gear and the filter wheel mesh well.

3.5 Microplate Holder Module

When maintaining the module, check if screws are tighten, if the microplate holder
assembly moves smoothly, and if the tension of the belt is appropriate. If not, find out
the problem and resolve it.

Wipe the two guide bars and the surface of roller shaft and lubricate them with
grease lubricant every half year.

You can use a gas bag or a soft brush to remove dust on the shelf and the analog
board. Be sure to disassemble the analog board before cleaning.

The tension is appropriate when the site is depressed 40.4mm as pressure of


0.2N is added on the belt. Do not add excessive tension on the belt.

The grid bar and the nut are stuck to the assembly with epibond. When maintaining
the assembly, check the grid bar and the spring sheet. If the grid bar is loose or
disconnected, stick it. If the spring sheet cannot work, disassemble and adjust it, or
replace it with a new one.

Replace the power switch, the power jack, or the boards with new ones when they
are damaged. Be sure to connect them correctly after the replacement. Keep the
grounding terminal on the bottom cover clean and rustfree and connect the earth
wire to the grounding terminal.

The LCD dust filter and the indicator are stuck to the top cover. The touchscreen and
the LCD are stuck together with the touchscreen backing between them. The
touchscreen backing is stuck to the touchscreen. The touchscreen and the LCD can
be separated from each other.

There is no need to maintain the top cover assembly unless the recorder, the
screens or the indicator cannot work. Be sure to connect cables correctly after
maintaining the assembly.

The hardware system consists of the following units and boards:

Main control unit: CPU board, CPU extension board


Driver unit: Driver board
Data collection unit: Analog board
MMI unit: LCD conversion board, Touchscreen conversion board
Power supply unit: Power supply board

4.1 CPU Board


The CPU board, which constructs a minimal CPU system using a 32-bit SCM, and
the CPU extension board constitute the main control unit.

The CPU board communicates with the CPU extension board using the multiple bus
mode and through CPU external interfaces.

4.1.1 Storage
Flash, which uses Flex Bus to communicate with CPU, stores program of CPU.

DDR SDRAM, which is controlled by the SDRAM controller integrated in CPU, is


configured on the CPU board.

Additionally, to store important parameters, EEPROM is configured on the CPU


board.

4.1.2 Clock
The CPU board has real-time clock circuit, which includes real-time clock, battery,
etc., to achieve the real-time clock function.

The CPU extension board realizes the following functions for CPU external
interfaces:

4.2.1 USB
The USB controller on the CPU extension board communicates with CPU through
PCI bus and communicates with USB ports to perform the USB function.

There are USB power supply controller and ESD between the USB controller and
USB ports.

4.2.2 LCD Drive and Control


The CPU extension board uses FPGA to drive and control the LCD. The FPGA
receives data from CPU through FlexBus, stores the display data of CPU into VRAM,
and outputs the data in VRAM to LCD according to the display schedule of LCD,
whose control signals are driven by a buffer.

CPU adjusts the digital potentiometers on the CPU extension board through SPI bus
to adjust the contrast and brightness of LCD.

4.2.3 Touchscreen Control


The CPU extension board uses FPGA to control the touchscreen. The FGPA
achieves the following functions:

Extending a serial port to communicate with CPU


Extending SPI port to control the touchscreen conversion board
Realizing the data communication protocol with the software

4.2.4 Serial Port Communication


The UART0 and UART2 ports of the CPU board communicate with PC and the
driver board through the LVTTLRS232 level translator. The UART3 port
communicates with the recorder through the LVTTLTTL level translator.

4.3 Driver Board
The driver board consists of circuits of movement control and data collection.

The driver board receives instructions from main control unit to control and drive
moving parts, detect position signals, collect photoelectrical data, and transmit data
to the main control unit.

4.3.1 Serial Port Communication


The CPU of the driver board communicates with the main control unit through the
LVTTLRS232 level translator.

4.3.2 Step Motor Drive

The CPU outputs two groups of signals, one (including the step pulse signal step1
and the direction signal dir1) for the movement step motor and the other (including
the step pulse signal step2 and the direction signal dir2) for the rotation step
motor.

The signals are converted by LVTTLTTL translators and then transmitted to the
step motor drivers to control the step motors.

4.3.3 Position Signal Detection

The movement position signal and the rotation position signal are transmitted
through the U17 shaping circuit and the CPLD to the CPU.

4.3.4 Lamp Control

The lamp needs +6V when working and +2V on standby. The voltage is provided by
the DC/DC unit, which is controlled by the VSW signal from the CPU and sends
VLAMP signal to the lamp. The VLAMP signal also feeds to the
overvoltage/overcurrent protection unit, which controls the DC/DC unit to stop power
supply to the lamp when overvoltage or overcurrent occurs.

The MOS 1 and MOS 2, which are controlled by LAMPON and RSHT signals
respectively, protect the lamp from being damaged by spike pulse during the switch.

4.3.5 Analog Board Control

There are three groups of signals to control the analog board: digital potentiometer
control signal DCPx, channel gating signal CHx, and AD collection control signals
AD_Ox and AD_Ix. All signals are generated from CPLD and processed by level
translators.

4.4 Analog Board

The analog board consists of the following:

Photoelectricity conversion and amplification circuit, which converts current and


voltage and reverses and amplifies signals
Conditioning circuit, which have functions of multiple channel gating, gain
adjustment and voltage following
AD collection circuit

4.4.1 Photoelectricity Conversion & Amplification


The circuit converts current and voltage of 8 paths of signals from photoelectric cells
and reverses and amplifies them.

The current and voltage conversion circuit converts the signals from the
photoelectric cells to voltage output.
The reversion and amplification circuit reverses and amplifies the output from
the conversion circuit, which is negative voltage, before outputting it to the
conditioning circuit.

Analog Potentiometer Adjustment
In the photoelectricity conversion and amplification circuit, the analog potentiometers
should be adjusted to keep voltage the same. The potentiometers and their
corresponding channels are shown as the following:

Channel 1: VR1 Channel 2: VR2

Channel 3: VR3 Channel 4: VR4

Channel 5: VR5 Channel 6: VR6

4.4.2 Conditioning
The 8 paths of signals from the photoelectricity conversion and amplification circuit
travel through the multiple channel gating circuit, gain adjustment circuit and voltage
following circuit to reach the AD collection circuit.

The multiple channel gating circuit selects specific channels to condition signals.
The gating is realized by the multiplexer.
The gain adjustment circuit makes the output signals approach to the maximum
input amplitude voltage of the AD collection circuit. The gain is adjusted through
the resistance of digital potentiometer (U12).
Signals from the gain adjustment circuit are input into the voltage following
circuit.

4.4.3 AD Collection
The AD collection circuit converts analog signals from the conditioning circuit to
digital signals.

A 16-bit resolution converter performs AD conversion.


The reference source provides 5V reference voltage for the AD converter.

Signals between the analog board and the driver board are processed by the
input/output buffer.

4.5 Touchscreen Conversion Board


The touchscreen conversion board:

Tests if the touchscreen is clicked


Converts and transfers clicking position signals from the touchscreen.

4.5.1 Analog Input Protection


A diode is used to prevent signals from the touchscreen from exceeding the input
range of touchscreen driver. The diode also provides high-speed discharge circuit to
eliminate static charges.

4.5.2 Touchscreen Driver

The touchscreen driver receives coordinate signals from the touchscreen and
communicates with the input/output buffer through the input control signal
CONTROLn and the output status signal STATEn.

4.5.3 Input/Output Buffer


The input/output buffer converts 5V signals from the CPU extension board to 3.3V
signals that can be used by the touchscreen driver, and also converts 3.3V signals
from the touchscreen driver to 5V signals.

4.5.4 Power Supply


The touchscreen conversion board is powered by the CPU extension board, which
provides 5V signals.

4.6 Power Supply Board
The power supply board outputs:

+5V: 2.0A, which is supplied to the boards;


+12V: 3.0A, which is supplied to the lamp, analog board and recorder;
+24V: 0.3A, which is supplied to step motors;
-12V: 0.1A, which is supplied to the analog board.

The power supply board consists of:

EMI filter circuit;


Rectification and filter circuit;
Flyback converter, which outputs +12V, +24V and -12V;
Voltage reducing circuit, which generates +5V from the +24V input;
Overcurrent and overvoltage protection circuits for outputs;

5.1 Maintenance

5.1.1 Daily Maintenance


The following maintenance can be performed by users.

Check if the indicator can light up normally.


Check if the screen can work and display properly.
Check if the recorder can work properly.
Check if there is abnormal sound when the system is running.
Clean the surface of the system. See the Operation Manual for details.

5.1.2 Half-yearly Maintenance


Clean the guide bar of the microplate holder module and the filter wheel shaft and
lubricate them with grease lubricant.

5.2 Service
If you want to open the enclosure, power off the system first and release the screws
shown in the figure below.

5.2.1 Replacing Lamp
Replace the lamp with a new one when the system instructs to do or the service time
of the lamp has added up to 2,000 hours.

1 Power off the system. Wait at least 30 minutes for the lamp and its housing to
cool down.

CAUTION:
The hot lamp and its housing may burn you. Be sure not to go to
the next step until they have cooled down.
2 Remove the screws on the front of enclosure and open the enclosure.
3 Pinch the rear of the lamp and gently press it down. Pull the lamp out as you
see its opening out of the lamp housing. Be sure to pinch the lamp tightly to
avoid the lamp damage caused by spring force.
4 Remove the lamp from the lamp base.
5 Insert a new lamp into the lamp base.
6 Pinch the rear of the lamp. Keep the center of the lamp rear a little lower than
the center of the lamp opening and move the lamp gently to press the
extension spring in the lamp housing. When the lamp opening reaches the
locating hole in the lamp housing, raise the lamp rear gently and the lamp will
be located automatically by the spring force. Be sure to pinch the lamp tightly to
avoid the lamp damage caused by spring force.

CAUTION:
Never touch either the light entrance of the lamp or the convex
lens in the lamp housing. In case the entrance is dirty, clean it
with ethanol-soaked defatted cotton.

5.2.2 Replacing Filter


1 Power off the system. Wait at least 30 minutes for the filter wheel to cool
down.

CAUTION:
The hot filter wheel may burn you. Be sure not to go to the next
step until it has cooled down.
2 Remove the screws on the front of enclosure and open the enclosure.
3 Use a hex wrench to release the retaining screw on the filter wheel shaft.
Push the shaft into the hole and remove the filer wheel.
4 Use a phillips screwdriver to remove the screws on the press plate of the filter
wheel. After removing the press plate and pressure springs, replace the filters
with new ones. Then assemble the filter wheel in the reverse sequence.

CAUTION:
Never touch optical parts, such as filters and diaphragms.
Place each filter into its own hole in the filter wheel.

5.2.3 Replacing Optical Fiber
1 Power off the system.
2 Remove the screws on the front of enclosure and open the enclosure.
3 Use a phillips screwdriver to release the five retaining screws on the microplate
holder module and remove the module.
4 Disconnect the cable between the optical coupler and the driver board. Use a
hex wrench to release retaining screws and disassemble the optical fiber box.
5 Use a phillips screwdriver to release the four retaining screws on the optical
fiber box cover and remove the cover.
6 Use a hex wrench to release the retaining screws on all fiber ends. Remove
the eight small ends and then the big end to remove the whole fiber.
7 Put the big end of the new fiber into the box and then the eight small ends. Be
sure to rotate the big end slightly to make the fiber smooth. Put the ends close
to the inside surface of the box and secure them with retaining screws.
8 Complete the assembling in the reverse sequence of steps 3-5.

CAUTION:
The curve radius of the fiber must be larger than or equal to
20cm. Otherwise, the fiber may be damaged.

5.3 Adjustment

5.3.1 Adjusting Filter Wheel Motor Assembly


Be sure to install the filter wheel assembly before adjusting or installing the filter
wheel motor assembly. When disassembling/assembling the filter wheel equipped
with the system, you need not adjust the filter wheel motor assembly. It is
recommended to check if the filter wheel and the motor gear mesh well after the filter
wheel, especially a new one, is installed. Adjust the location of the filter wheel motor
assembly as necessary.

1 Power off the system.


2 Remove the screws on the front of enclosure and open the enclosure.
3 Install the filter wheel assembly and then tighten the retaining screw on the
shaft. Check if the filter wheel assembly can rotate smoothly.
4 To adjust the location of filter wheel motor assembly:
Move the motor assembly close to the filter wheel until there is no back lash
between them (you can feel by hand that the filter wheel almost has no
circumferential gap). Tighten screws on the bracket to secure the motor
assembly.

5 To check if the filter wheel and the motor gear mesh well:
Rotate the gear by hand to make a piece of paper (about 0.04mm thick) move
between the gear and the filter wheel. If both of the following are reached, the
adjustment is successful. Otherwise, adjust the motor assembly again.
When the paper is between the gear and the filter wheel, feel by hand
that the gear and the filter wheel have no circumferential gap between
them;
When the paper is rotated out, the pressure marks on the paper are of
the same size in the gear tooth width direction.

5.3.2 Adjusting Belt Tension of Microplate Holder Module


Adjust belt tension after the belt is replaced or loose.

1 Power off the system.


2 Remove the screws on the front of enclosure and open the enclosure.
3 Disconnect the cable connected to the analog board. Use a phillips
screwdriver to release screws on the microplate holder module and then
remove the module and the cable rack.
4 Release the retaining screw on the tension block. Put the belt tension
adjustment fixture against the belt wheel and the roller wheel to make the
pressure head on the belt. Rotate the adjustment screw to make the belt
tension in the scale range of fixture. Then secure the tension block.
5 Assemble the cable rack and then the microplate holder module. Connect the
cable.

5.4 Software Upgrade

5.4.1 Software Upgrade for Driver Board

The steps of software upgrade for the driver board are as follows:

1 Ensure the serial port of PC is connected to the driver board.

2 Double-click the software whose icon is shown as follows to run it.

After the software works, the following dialog box pops up.

3 Set up parameters in the dialog box: Select the model and serial port
according to the actual condition; Set Baud Rate to 19200, Check Bit to none,
Unit to main control unit, and File to meibiao.hex.

4 Click Start to perform the upgrade.


5 After the upgrade is completed, click Exit.

5.4.2 Software Upgrade for CPU Board


You can use a USB flash drive to upgrade software for the CPU board.

The steps of upgrade are as follows.

1 Insert the USB flash drive to the PC. Clear the USB flash drive and ensure it
has no virus.
2 Create a directory in the USB flash drive. The directory is \hd\soft\.
3 Copy the files and folders listed in the table above to \hd\soft\.
4 Remove the USB flash disk from PC.
5 Insert the USB flash disk having the copied files and folders to the USB port
on the microplate reader.
6 Power on the microplate reader. The initialization takes about 15 seconds and
after that the following dialog box pops up.

7 Click Yes and then the following dialog box pops up.

8 The whole upgrade takes about five minutes. As the upgrade is completed,
the following dialog box pops up.

Click OK.
