Today we had two students come into class and tell us about their experience studying
abroad. Prior to this session I knew the importance of studying abroad but I did not really know
the difference it could make in someones life and how it can be an experience of a lifetime. I
was able to connect studying abroad to widening my viewpoint as an engineer and experience
other cultures and mindsets outside of the US since engineering is such a global field. It also
surprised me the programs available through the university to make this affordable to students.
Since the event I have been looking at different programs and different locations to study
abroad my junior year. I am not yet sure what this experience will bring me but I am excited to
find out.

Prior to todays session, I had no idea of the structure of formal /informal meetings. This
hour we discussed Roberts Rules of Order. These rules laid out the details of how to conduct
meetings. It surprised me how informative the packet we received was. I can use this
information at my IISE e-board meetings next semester, during my internship this summer, and
within my profession once I graduate. Using these techniques will make me look very
professional and knowledgeable.

As a requirement of the course we must create an ePortfolio. In todays session Ms.
Vinson spoke to us about the requirements of this portfolio. As a first semester honors student
we were required to make an ePortfolio and add a personal statement and artifacts. Luckily,
these are also the requirements for this courses ePortfolio as well. I can improve my current
portfolio by updating it with my most current resume, campus involvement, and newer artifacts
and awards. This ePortfolio will be beneficial because it will allow to have all my important
college documents on one, easy-to-find outlet which will allow others to access my information
more easily.

Dr. Steven Jiang and Jaunda Johnson-Taylor came to our class today to discuss
graduate school and undergraduate research. I believe that I knew a great deal about each
topic before they came to speak to us but it was great to get a refresher. After hearing Dr. Jiang,
I am still unsure if I want to go to graduate school but listening to Ms. Johnson-Taylor solidified
my decision of wanting to participate in undergraduate research. Both will be beneficial because
they allow me to go more in depth with my field of study. Both speakers were very informative
and influencing.
