Purpose and Lesson

G.3.A Describe and preform transformations of
figures in a plane using coordinate notation.
Student Objectives:
Students will be able to identify and
describe a transformation.
They will be able to look at an algebraic
representation, a coordinate plane or table
and explain in words what transformation
is taking place.
They will understand what
transformation, preimage, image, prime
notation, coordinate notation mean.
Students will be able to sketch, describe,
compare and explain when a
transformation is taking place by
reflecting, stretching, compressing, and/or
translating.

do one problem where a
reflection is taking place, a
translation and then a
stretch/compression.
After the Lesson: 5 min
They will be given homework
where they will practice writing
down the coordinates of the
transformation, drawing it, and
explaining it in complete sentences.
I will ask if there are any questions
about the vocabulary words or the
homework itself.
Language Modifications: Materials & Resources: Technology:
This class is all Language Center students that Patting paper Calculator
have been in the country for three years or less, Grid paper
therefore they have accommodations, which allow Pencil
them to have an English dictionary and a Bilingual Ruler
English/Spanish dictionary. I will cover important
vocabulary words that will be used in the lesson.
QTEL strategies will be used (creating a
grid in groups of 4 of their transformation
and presenting it to the class by
describing using the appropriate
vocabulary of what transformation is
taking place).
Visuals will be needed
Classroom setting in groups of four.
(when working with all the class)
Vocabulary will be explained before
starting.
