Reflection Paper on Leadership and Management

A leader is best when people barely know he exists, when his work is done, his aim
fulfilled, they will say: we did it ourselves a quote I would never forget about leadership and
management. I remembered this quote because today is the schedule of our Seminar on
Leadership and Hospital Management which is held at Misamis University, Ozamiz City,
Philippines dated March 18, 2017. As I was on my way to the said venue I kept reminiscing the
things I learned about leadership and management when I was still in my undergraduate studies.
As I recall, it was a complex subject to comprehend. But, nonetheless the experience didnt
hinder my excitement to attend the said seminar.

The seminar started at exactly 9:00 AM but pre registration booth was made available
to accommodate other interested participants. The speaker Dr. De leon discussed a lot of
interesting matters regarding the subject matter and was very enthusiastic in presenting them.
Throughout the course of his discussion Ive learned things I didnt even knew before. Ive
learned that a leadership and management must really go hand in hand. One is an essential
element of the other. There are those who are born to be a leader and those who are made to be
one. There are several qualities one must possess in order for him/ her to be hailed as one
effective leader. A leader must be enthusiastic, has good integrity, tough, fair, warm, has humility,
and confident. When a leader functions into skills, he must be defining. Meaning he should be
clear, concrete, time bounding, realistic challenging and capable of evaluation. There are also
sets of function in which a leader must follow. Like what Dr. De leon said leaders arent always
born they can also be made. When developing yourself to be a leader he/ she should be prepared,
proactive and reflective.

It was an indeed knowledge filled seminar. I for one didnt have the guts to be a leader
and fear always associates with the idea of becoming one. I always view leaders as scary, bossy
and rude. Now, the seminar changed my perspective. I think those leaders who are scary, bossy
and rude had it all figured out wrong about leadership. The seminar gave me views on how
should a hospital director act and manage his employees. As I go through the seminar I believe
that anyone can be a leader for as long as one has a persevered heart he can become one.
Hoping for another seminar that would benefit us the masters students real soon.
