What are the OBSTACLES of Total Quality Management?

During my practical experience I found five major obstacles of TQM in emerging

organizations, these are,

1. Lack of Commitment by Top Management

As we know that our country is in emerging phase of industrialization, so here the
owner of small organizations focus on completing their consignments and delivering.
They does not follow the proper steps regarding maintaining quality. Their priority is to
manufacture units without focusing systematic measuring of customer satisfaction
level.

2. Lack of Training and Education

In Small organization management focus to hire employee at low cost so they always
try to maximize their man power without even considering their education, and they do
not provide training programs to enhance workers skills and involvement in quality
improvement activities.

3. Lack of Planning
Quality planning in not a high priority for management anymore. In the absence of
proper planning take you to ineffective quality improvement .The management
should focus on planning and contribute towards the effectiveness of the improvement
in the quality of the product or service they offer. Therefore, for the success of quality
management program, pre-planning stage plays an important role.

4. Lack of Effective Measurement of Quality Improvement

TQM is centered on monitoring employees and processes, and establishing objectives
that anticipate the customer's needs so that he is surprised and delighted. This has
posed a considerable challenge to many companies. Measurement problems are caused
by goals based on past substandard performance, poor planning, and lack of resources
and competitor-based standard.

5. Inadequate Knowledge of Understanding TQM Philosophy

Another major obstacle in implementing TQM is that neither employer nor employees
have proper understanding of TQM Philosophy as I mention that employees often do
not have educational background so they are unable to understand importance of
implementing TQM on the other hand employer also ignore the importance of TQM by
LET IT BE as it is going on.

6. Limitation of Financial Resources

In small companies this is also a major obstacle that they never consider
implementation of TQM due to lack of finance. Although such companies have major
part in industry but they use their budget in manufacturing process by neglecting TQM.
