1) Port M, is due south of a lighthouse, L. A ship leaves Port M and sails 200 km on a bearing of 60 to Port K. Port K is directly
east of the lighthouse.
(a) Sketch a diagram to represent this information. At L and K, draw dotted lines to show the direction of north.
(d) Indicate on your diagram the angle, x, which shows the bearing of M from K. (1 mark) (CXC)
2) Points O, P and Q are in the same horizontal plane. P is 15 m away from O on a bearing of 040 from O. Q is on a bearing of
130 from O, and PQ = 17 m.
(a) Sketch a diagram to show the positions of O, P and Q. Clearly indicate North on your diagram.
3) The diagram below, not drawn to scale, shows the journey of a ship which sailed from Port A to Port B and then to Port C.
Port B is located 32 km due West of Port A and Port C is 45 km from Port B on a bearing of 040.
4) An oil tanker leaves Town X, and travels on a bearing of 050 to Town Z, 50 km away. The tanker then travels to Town Y, 70
km away, on a bearing of 120.
(a) Draw a carefully labelled diagram of the tanker's journey, clearly showing the North line.
(b) Calculate the distance of Y from X, giving your answer to 3 significant figures.
(c) (i) On your diagram, mark the angle that shows the bearing of X from Y.
(ii) Calculate the bearing of X from Y, giving your answer to the nearest degree. (CXC)
5) In triangle ABC, AC cm = 12.6 , BC cm = 11.2 and angle B = 54 . The lengths AC and BC are correct to the nearest millimeter
and angle B is correct to the nearest degree. Use the sine rule sin A/ a = sin B/b to calculate the smallest possible value of angle
A.

7) In the diagram below, angle PRQ angle = 48 , PQR = 65, and PQ cm = 6. Use the sine rule to calculate the length of PR. ( CXC
-3 marks).
8) A piece of land at a street corner is in the shape of a triangle of sides 40 metres, 62 metres and 78 metres as shown. Find the
size of the angle at the street corner. (CXC 4 marks)
10) ABCDEF is a triangular prism, 16 cm long, as shown. Calculate the size of the angle between AD and the base BCDE. (CXC-6
marks)
11) For the points P, Q and R, as illustrated in the figure, find the bearing of
(a) P from Q
(b) P from R
(c) R from Q
(CXC- 3 marks)
