for re-registering guidance.

Computer Hardware Requirements

Note a PC Performance check program is included on the LAS DVD and this
should always be used before installing LAS.

The specifications listed below should be considered the minimum to ensure

smooth and reliable operation of LAS

Processor:

Intel i3 or higher with CPU clock of 2.5 GHz or faster.

For highly demanding tasks such as Montage and MultiStep it is recommended
to use a PC with a minimum Intel Core i5 processor or better.
RAM:

4 GB or more of system RAM recommended.

For optional modules and for processing large image stacks, 8 GB or more of
system RAM is highly recommended.

Hard Drive:

256 GB or higher, SATA 7200 rpm, 8MB cache, formatted as NTFS.

Approximately 2 Gbytes of disk space for a full installation and an additional

free space of 10Gbytes for efficient operation. Further space is required for
data and image storage, which depends on the application and frequency of
use. The free space must be checked regularly.

For the optional MultiStep Module it is recommended to have a minimum of an

additional 10Gb of free space.

Monitors:

19 or larger monitor set to screen resolution of 1920 x 1200 (recommended),

1600 x 1200 or 1280 x 1024.

If a monitor has yet to be purchased and a large screen area is needed, a

monitor with a resolution of 1920 x 1440 is recommended.

Dual Monitors:

LAS is configured for display on a single monitor or if dual monitors are

available they should be configured as 2 separate monitors with the desktop
from Monitor 1 extended onto Monitor 2.

Graphics:

128Mb Ram minimum for single monitor or 256Mb Ram for dual monitor.
Shared memory is not recommended. PCI Express.

LAS System Requirements Page 6

128-bit memory bus width.

32 bits operation.

Support for Direct X Version 9c or Direct X Version 10 or later for Windows 7

and Direct X version 11 for Windows 8

The minimum graphics adaptors are the Radeon X800, ATI Fire GL V7200 and
recommended adaptors are NVidia GeForce 9800GT, ATI FirePro V480O or
equivalent using the PCI Express bus or later models.

Select High quality or Optimal quality where Direct 3D options are offered
by the graphics card and not Balanced which appears by default.

Integrated graphics cards part of the motherboard layout are not

recommended as they have reduced performance. Use of system or shared
memory by the graphic card will impair performance. Some annotation and
measurement overlays may not perform as expected.

The latest graphics drivers must be installed. Obtain these from the PC or
graphics board manufacturer, not Microsoft Corp. Not all graphics boards are
compatible with all features of LAS. If it is found that some graphics elements
do not appear or are corrupted, exchange the graphics board.

The bit-depth of the graphics display system must be set to 32 bits.

Hardware acceleration should be set to full.

External Connectors

USB2.0 (Minimum), (USB3.0 recommended for the DMC2900 camera and

required for the DFC3000G camera and DFC7000 T): is required for each of
the following application and components in simultaneous use:

USB camera.

Microscope.

Microscope additional controls.

Leica LAS optional license Dongle.

Leica Map Start or Premium Dongle.

Other Components

Keyboard and PC Mouse with wheel. The wheel should also act as a third
button.

600W PSU if all options are installed.

Full-height card slots for optional interface boards e.g. Oasis. The slot next to
the Oasis board needs to be free or at least the next board must have low
profile components.

LAS System Requirements Page 7

FireWire controllers:

Depending on the type of camera, a powered 1394b 9-pin FireWire OHCI port
is required for use with Leica DFC cameras. As FireWire interface boards from
some manufacturers have issues with non-Leica drivers, we recommend the
use of the FireWire boards in the list below.

Please note that you will also need the FireWire -B-B cable 11 600 269, if both
camera and PC have a 1394b (FireWire -B) connector.

All DFC cameras are now supplied with a suitable FireWire -B board and
FireWire -B-B cable.

FireWire 1394B is required with Windows 7 and 8 OS.

Notebook Computers
Notebooks are normally designed for power saving rather than performance
and so it is necessary to be careful in identifying suitable configurations. A
true desktop replacements using desktop components in a movable but heavy
case is required and should be compared with the Desktop specification above.

Some Notebooks have automatic power saving features. Please be aware that
LAS cannot control these and if they become activated, the performance of LAS
will be very poor as will other programs.

Notebooks cannot be fitted with the Oasis XYZ control board so cannot be used
with LAS Power Mosaic, LAS Cleanliness Expert, LAS, when a motorised stage
or focus are to be used and are connected to an Oasis XYZ control board.

Otherwise the recommended processor is the Intel Core i7 with speed greater
than 2.0GHz. As Notebook configured processors use a slower memory bus and
slower hard-drives, the overall performance is not as good as the Desktop
equivalents.

The smaller screen size of Notebooks may not be comfortable for use with
high-resolution images. Make sure that the vertical resolution is at least 1024
lines because many Notebooks have lower vertical resolution that limits the
image size and panel display. It helps to place the taskbar on the left edge of
the screen to avoid loss of vertical resolution.

For Notebooks it is important to ensure that the display does not use an
integrated graphics controller. This will severely restrict live image
performance. A dedicated and modern graphics controller is needed such as
NVidia Quadro NVS 160M or later.
