The Professional Engineer Examinations are divided into
First-Step Professional Engineer Examination and
Second-Step Professional Engineer Examination, and
these examinations are implemented according to each
technical discipline.
1. A person who has passed First-Step Professional Engineer
Examination is qualified to become an Associate Professional
Engineer. "Associate Professional Engineer" is defined as a
person who has obtained a registration and assists a
Professional Engineer with respect to the practice, using the title
of Associate Professional Engineer in order to acquire the
necessary skill to become a Professional Engineer.
2. A person who has passed Second-Step Professional Engineer
Examination is qualified to become a Professional Engineer.

The requirements for application for Second-Step
Professional Engineer Examination excluding
"Comprehensive Technical Management" are:
1. to be registered as an Associate Professional Engineer and have
assisted a Professional Engineer for a total period of four (4) or
longer years.
2. to have engaged in practical experience for a period of four (4) or
longer years under supervision of experienced engineer.
3. to have engaged in practical experience for a total period of
seven (7) or longer years.

The Pathway to Chartered Engineer


The process of attaining and maintaining Chartered Status and
Registration can be described as a four-step process:
Step 1: Demonstrate your Stage 1 Competency, and become a
Graduate Member or higher of Engineers Australia.
Step 2: Develop, or have at least three years of engineering
experience through a period of professional formation.
Step 3: Address the Australian Engineering Competency
Standards Stage 2 and apply for Chartered and/or Registration.
Step 4: Attain Chartered Status and/or Registration and
commence Continuing Professional Development (CPD).

University of Singapore (NUS) or Nanyang Technological
University (NTU).
Experience : not less than four years of practical experience
in such professional work and at such level of responsibility
as to be sufficiently competent for registration as a professional
engineer.
