Guiding Questions:

0 1 2 3 What strategy or strategies did you observe or teach

today? If the observed or taught strategy was NOT a
strategy from recitation, please explain in detail and
describe the strategy to the best of your knowledge.

Mrs. Bauldridge showed a fantastic example of the different levels of

questioning in her class. First she passed out a helpful hand out with a house
graphic on it that showed the three different levels of questioning with
prompting words that would help identify what each type of question would
look like. While explaining what the questions were she even added an
element of color and equated the specific type of organization to traffic
lights. Level one questions were green because students dont really have to
stop for very long to figure out the answers to those questions. For the level
two questions she outlined it in yellow to show to understand and answer
these questions students would need to slow down and take a moment to
think about the answer before moving on. The final level of questions was
outlined in red showing that students would need to take longer to really
think about the question they were answering.
After she finished explaining her Three Story Question House, she
gave the three students two sticky notes for each of the different levels they
were discussing. We were to help the student identify two examples of what
each of the level of questions would look like using examples from the book
they were reading about a girl who started a lemonade stand and then stick
the examples on the proper floor of each house to really show what they
would be like in practice.

0 1 2 3 How did the taught/observed strategy go? What were some

highlights and lowlights? Please make sure you include
BOTH highlights and lowlights.

I honestly felt that the strategy presented was nearly flawless, it

showed what I think to be a nearly perfect example of the different levels of
questions in a way that was easy to understand, and the students werent at
all confused by what was being asked of them once they were let loose to
begin their assignment. The only lowlight that comes to mind is the
disorganization associated with selecting the passage that the students
would be drawing their questions from. Either the page was completely
forgotten that theyd read to or none of the students were able to retain
enough of what theyd read to be able to even identify the point in the story
that theyd reached. Though its important to say the class eventually settled
on a starting point.

0 1 2 3 How might you use the strategy you learned in RECITATION

in your content area?

In my class I would blend together a role-playing activity with the

different levels of questions when reviewing material. For the activity I would
be heavily drawing inspiration from J. K. Rowings Harry Potter Series, as Id
have the students divide into four groups to represent the four houses of
Hogwarts. In order to help students get a better understanding of what kind
of material theyd be seeing on tests Id use all three levels of questions in a
question game. For the game Id first have students chose a representative
of their house that they believed would be able to write the quickest to
record answers to the questions, and another student from their house that
will take the answers up to the front of the class to read- theyll be called the
houses prefects. The goal of the game is to earn the most points for their
house, and to earn points they must correctly answer the different levels of
evaluative questions Ill ask them.
