Attention getter: I would like to start off by saying that I have been through a lot as a

young adult, many of you in here have came across hard times see me it was very difficult.I was
often living with many different family members and close family friends. Homelessness is a
difficult situation to deal with, many times me and my family were forced to stay in hotels,
friends and even parks and I'm only 18. Some days my mom would have to leave me and my
younger brother in the care of others or leave us in our old neighborhoods to where we would
have to take care of ourselves.Ilong story short being homeless forces you to do thing your are
not proud off but you have to do it.

Credibility: Hi my name is Cordareus Ellison I have been researching this topic since the
beginning of the year, but i've been interested in this topic since I was in middle school.

Audience relevance: as the audience ,you all should really pay attention because at
any moment anyone could be homeless. God forbids if something tragic was to happen you
could be out on the streets and there are certain laws put in place to take homeless people to jail
for doing such things as just asking for money or sleeping somewhere.homelessness is
everywhere.

Preview points today i will be focusing on three main points my first is panhandling and
statistics on panhandling .my second point i will be talking about is trespassing and the
harassment of homeless people.my last topic i will be talking about is theft and just doing what is
necessary to live.

Transition : now for my first the topic of trespassing and harassment of homeless people

Point 1:homeless people shouldn't be looked as a criminal for trespassing or they shouldn't
be harassed being homeless is hard enough

SUB POINTS:
:In 1729, Philadelphia passes a law allowing local authorities to deport poor immigrants who
cannot support themselves. This was america's first attempt to criminalize homeless people or
seeing this a way to deal with homelessness.
:In 1937 California passed an "Anti-Okie Law," making it a misdemeanor to "bring or assist in
bringing" any indigent person into that state.
:according National Coalition for the Homeless the Since 1999, more than a thousand attacks
against homeless individuals have occurred. These attacks occurred in cities throughout our
country in forty-seven states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico. They know no
boundaries and are not limited by coast, region, or state. These attacks have permeated every
corner of our society

Transition : next i will be discussing the reason why people panhandle and some reason
why people are homeless

SUBPOINT:
:Children and Poverty finds that 37% of homeless families had their welfare benefits reduced in
the last year. Of those, 20% became homeless as a direct result of the cuts(ProQuest Staff).

:Unemployment plays a big role in homelessness according to (Thinkprogress.org) in a survey of

146 homeless people 60 %Make up to 25 dollar a day. What's the issue with asking for help?

: In fact, 94 percent used the meager funds they raised for food. It's shocking to also know that
out of all the homeless people it's the 3 % that is making it harder for other homeless people. The
3% of the homeless people are the ones who do the drugs and use the money that they get for
other things. There will always be people who try to take advantage of others and panhandling
is no different.

Transition : though this might be a lot of information to take in many homeless people still
do things they are not proud of.

SUBPOINT
:Hidden Homelessness, a survey of more than 400 rough sleepers by Sheffield Hallam
University, reveals the desperate steps taken by the homeless to find shelter. When you think of
rough sleepers what do you think of? What comes to mind? Rough sleepers are women who take
an unwanted sex partner to spend the night in jail, basically they prostitute themselves to have a
warm place to sleep.

:A fifth of homeless people have committed "imprisonable offences" to spend a night incells and
more than a quarter of them were women

:but when you have a family to feed and look after you would do any and everything to take care
of your family. Instead of calling that a crime you can call it crisis mode. Still, if homeless
people are not held
