Culture in the blabla history

Our Perspective

Our perspective of culture in this photo story is one where actions

and traditions of the past sieve though the ages coming out,
revealing itself, in the present more or less altered from their
origins.

For us, history is the succession of events that has occurred

through the eons. It is the very near, and the very far, from big bang
to yesterdays election. For example a country has its own unique
succession of events that was, and still is, important in shaping its
culture. History directly influences how that society looks today. This
can include wars, how the country was ruled, social movements and
natural disasters. However, history is not just an objective set of
facts following each other like pearls on a string. Human history is
more than just dates and facts; it is the lives lived by all of our
common ancestors and is what actually happened in the lives of real
people. But the way it is presented depends on who has the power
of definition. And it will depend on whos peering through to find the
facts, because we all looked trough different lenses, and this distorts
our view. Your freedom fighters are someone elses terrorists. So in a
way can we say that history is the tales we tell ourselves about
ourselves.

Culture is survived history, it is history we live in carry out our daily

lives through celebrations, traditions, institutions and social circles.
Like evolution, we can find fossils of past cultures in our shared
history. But here, with this work, we want to highlight the history
and histories that survived, that binds us together, but at the same
time shows us our differences. Weve chosen to do this through four
generative themes; architecture, religion, clothing and dance. Notice
that in this context history almost converges with culture. And like a
river, culture ebbs and flows with the passage of time. It goes in
different directions and sometimes doubling in on itself leaving a
piece detached (an oxbow lake) soon to dry our and die. And like
this. It is fascinating that some things stand the test of time, it keeps
on going evolving with each person putting its personal stamp on a
tradition. This is culture, the intersection between holding on to
traditions and letting them evolve

Religion:

is the praxis of though, or rather belief, in something more than

what the eyes can see, something behind the immediate tangible
world, governing and affecting us. It is about the expression of these
believes in an executive way between a group of people. It tries to
explain the seemingly unexplainable with stories about something
otherworldly, like gods, creatures, spirits and energies. It is also a
instrument of power as long as people buy into their believes. A
power that is corruptible to serve ones needs, to supress and
oppress, to give hopes and dreams about something better, if you
only live right. I think that everybody is searching for a truth, we
need to know the causes, to find the hand that moves, from cause
to consequence, and with science and facts, or with stories and
tales, our mind can rest.

Religions influence in school and with that, ways of thinking

Religion has been very present in spanish culture, especially in

recent history with the dictatorship. Obviously this influce of religion
has had an importance in education which is the main constructer of
thoughts and ideas, because by is has been responsible to transmit
the values that are present in our society. As we can see, this
influence is still present. The influence is still presents in adults.

say something about religions power and dominance over society,

showing itself in the architecture (ornated and big and lush
structures, far succeeding others especially in the past)

talk about small people and tall buildings

Architecture:

here the people are not that small compared to the room, they are
closer to the architecture

architecture in spanish culture, the imoprtance of food, and the

need for having a dedicated place for good food, where in other
places (like in norway) there arent the same traditions. having a lot
of mercados, showing its importance in the society

Dancing:
is to execute a series of coordinated maneuvers with our body,
normally to the rhythm of music, with the goal to produce
something aesthetically pleasing. This span from the most
uncoordinated movements though open space, to the most perfect
interaction in the tight space between a couple. Dancing is
something we see throughout the different cultures of the world,
where each one has their own traditional dances and songs that are
related to the cultures character and personality. When we dance
we show a little part of our culture and ourselves through gestures
conveying emotions like happiness, love, passion etc.

we can see an example of a style of dance, part of our history but

that still is practised to this day.

, I can only imagine al the types of dance once danced which we no

longer can witness.

Clothing:
is our manipulation of nature, that with which we adorn ourselves
with. Either to cover up, to serve as a shelter from the elements, to
express ourselves in beautiful ways, or to simple follow the latest
trends to attract an mate, or to intimidate in gears of war. The way
we dress represents the way we are, the culture and subcultures of
the society we live in, but also with whom we want to be associated
with. In other words we dress to stand out, but we also dress to fit
in.

Lifestyle is the way we act and the way we relate to our

environment, which is influenced by our surroundings. In another
time and another place we might have been different, we might
have chosen differently. As humans we have only a limited time on
this earth and our lifestyle is about the way we want to conduct
ourselves on that journey. It is comprised of the decisions we take,
and with that also sacrifice. What kind of education shall I get, what
shall I wear to school tomorrow, do I want to start a family, what
kind of dinner will I make today? Because every choice is an
intersection, where choose one way to proceed, but there will
always be endless roads not taken. From the small and mundane, to
the gander life-altering decisions, that all is the fabric of our lives,
that makes us who we are and dictates our lifestyle, our own way of
living and expressing ourselves.
