I Wasted My Life! Dont Waste Yours!

In this book Im going to share one of the famous stories
in the bible that Jesus made more than 2000 years ago.
The story is about the Prodigal Son, every time I read and
preach about the prodigal son tears will start falling from
my face as I begin to think about how many times I
wasted precious moments in life without Jesus. Im
reminded of where I was when the Lord found me. I was
too busy, miserable and calling all the shots I want. I was
the little god of my own life and enjoying life to the
fullest. Well, there is no real enjoyment without God!
I was a Con Man, living life with fear and pretending and
doing any means possible to earn a living because I was
hastening to be a millionaire at a young age only to
discover that all devils apples have worms.! And every time I
received income I just blew it to riotous living and failing
5
business ideas. And attending night clubs just to please
my friends was the most horrible moments of my life.
The craziest thing I was also looking very religious! I
would attend Sabbath after Sabbath but after the church
service I would resume my sin and continue without
remorse. It is very sad to say this but I was just drinking
from the wrong well of life! I was lost but now I am found
and what happened to me is what can happen to you
through the blood of Jesus Christ!
I thank God for sending Jesus to die for my mistakes in
order to fix my life and start afresh with Him. Now, the
question is when the story of your life is written, what
will it say about you? Will your story be a tale of a
Wasted Life? Or, will it be the story of a person who
came to Jesus for salvation? Im inspired to share the
story of the prodigal son with you please notice the
dangers of wondering away from God.

Introduction
As you are about to read this book all I ask is that you
allow the Lord to speak to your heart and to heed His
voice when He does. The definition of a wasted life is
moments spent without total obedience to Gods Word Every
second counts to God! There is nothing that God hates as
a sin, God is Love but He deals with sin cruelly and with
wrath, therefore if you dont separate yourself from sin He
will deal with you too. Because of His hate for sin and His
love for the sinner God decided to send His Son to die for
us so that by his blood all sinners who come to him by
faith their sins may be forgiven and escape punishment.
Read John 3:16.
The danger of sin is that it separates you from God. You
become hell bound and hopeless unless you come to Jesus
for salvation. Sin is so terrible that it only needs Jesuss
blood to wash it away! not even a blood of a sacred cow
can cleanse you from your sins but that of Christ. Read
Hebrew 10: 4. Only his blood can free us from the power
of sin. Only His blood can bring us into fellowship with
the father. Only His blood gives peace and assurance.
Only His blood can change our eternal destiny. You can
try anything but only the blood fits men into Heaven!

7
Jesus The Greatest Teacher
When Jesus lived here on this earth He lived a sinless life
Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth 1 Peter 2:22.
Jesus taught us a better way to live our lives You have
heard that it was saidbut, I say unto you. Matt 5:27-48.
Therefore if you want to live in this world as Jesus did
you have to obey His words and examples because He
perfectly modelled God before men. John 14:9.
Now, with these introductory thoughts in mind, lets
turn our attention to the message contained in this
parable. It may be that you have never been saved. If so,
let the Lord show you how precious you are to Him and
come to Him for salvation. It may be that you are not as
close to the Lord as you need to be. I hope you learn the
truth that you can come home again.

Our Theme Text

Luke 15:11-24 NIV
One said to his father, Father, give me my share of the estate. So he
divided his property between them. Not long after that, the younger
son got together all he had, set off for a distant country and there
squandered his wealth in wild living. NIV

8
An Astonishing Request
Shocking Request
When this young man asked for his father to divide the
estate, he was in effect saying, I wish you were dead and no
more say in my life! I am tired of you and I want to be free from you
and your control in my life. Few of us would ever say that to
our parents! The lost person lives his life with just that
attitude! His life says to God, I wish you were dead! after all,
they live their lives as if God is dead!

Selfish Request
Notice what this young man said to his father: Give me!
His focus is on Me. His life is all wrapped up within
himself and he cares for no one else, especially not
the father. But, this father is so gracious! He could have
refused and kicked the son out, but he doesnt. He merely
does what his son asks him to do and gives his young man
what he asks for. The Bible says, And he divided unto them
his living. Literally, this father has poured his life into
building his estate so that he might have something to
hand down to his sons.

9
Using Gods Resources
This father gave his son the result and sum total of his life
and work. The younger son wanted what the father could give him,
but he did not want the father! In this, he again pictures the
lost sinner! The lost person takes no thought for God.
Their attitude toward God is Give me! They want His air,
His food, His water, His sun, His rain, His time, His world,
etc, but they do not want Him involved in their lives!
When God made man, He literally poured His life into
man, Gen. 2:7. And, every day that men live upon the
earth, they consume the resources that God created for
them, yet they do not want Him in their lives. They want
what He can give them, but they do not want Him! What
a tragedy! No wonder the Bible calls such men Fools!
Psalm. 14:1.

The God Who Allows

Friend, if you want to live your life like there is no God,
then He will allow to do just that! If you want to take all
that He can give you without acknowledging Him, He
will let you do that too. But, you need to know that end of
such a life will be an eternity in Hell! Is that what you
want as the sum total of your life? Read Proverbs 16:25,

10
A Shocking Reality
The son gets what he wants, but soon finds out that All
that glitters is not gold!

The Reality Of Sins Pleasures

He takes his fathers gracious provision and he squanders
it by living a wicked, self-indulgent life. The words
riotous living refer to A life totally given over to sinfulness and
wickedness. When this young man left home, he also left
behind all his moral restraints. He lived to gratify every
whim and desire of the flesh! Did he have a good time? Oh
yes! I will not be so foolish as to try and tell you that there
is not pleasure in sin, Heb. 11:25. The last phrase of that
verse says that this pleasure is, for a season, Just as the
trees outside and they are full of promise, they will soon
be wilted and the leaves will die.
The seasons of life change! And when they do, everything
that brought you pleasure at one point in your life will
bring you pain instead! A life lived in the bottle; a life lived
indulging sexual sins; a life lived for fleshly pleasures; a life lived for
self; all these end up in the same place! Yes, pleasure may
be found in these things for a short time, but is eternity

11
without God in Hell worth the short time spent in
the pleasure of sins embrace?

The Reality Of Sins Price

Eventually his money ran out, and along with the money,
his friends also ran out! There ones who helped him
spend it! The far country, a land of alcohol, women and
music, had become a land of weeping, worry and sorrow. Are
you familiar with the saying nothing for mahala it means
there is nothing for free well he found out too late that sin
carries with it a high price tag!

Sin Brings Separation

This young man finds himself broke, alone and miles
away from a father who had done nothing but love him.
By his own actions, he finds himself separated from that
father by a wide gulf of sin, pride and ignorance! So it is
with every soul that is lost in sin. You are separated
from God, the bibles says Isiah. 59:2.
But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and
your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear KJV
He loves you, Jesus loves you so much that the bible even
says Jeremiah. 31:3;
Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with
loving-kindness have I drawn thee. KJV
12
John 3:16, For God so loved the world, that he gave his only
begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but
have everlasting life KJV
But your sins stand between you and Him! What a waste
and what a tragedy!

Sin Brings Separation

The bibles says He began to be in want - Life had turned
upside down for this young man. When the music
stopped, the friends left, and the money was all gone, this
young man found out that he had some needs that he
could not meet. His sin had robbed him of everything of
value and it left him hopeless and helpless in the far
country. This is how sin treats all its victims! It will
promise you the world, but it can only deliver hopelessness,
desolation and death, Read Rom. 6:23,
For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life
through Jesus Christ our Lord KJV
James 1:14-15,
But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust,
and enticed. Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and
sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death KJV
We say, It pays to live for God! And, it does! But, did you
know that it also pays to live for the devil? It pays
dividends that you cannot even imagine! Broken lives,
13
ruined marriages, shattered dreams, damaged trust, health
problems, hopelessness, depression, defeat and death are all
part of the pay package of sin! Someone rightly has said,
Sin will take you father than you want to go, keep you longer than
you want to stay and cost you more than you want to pay. Dont
worry, sin always pays off, Read Galatians. 6:7,
Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth,
that shall he also reap.KJV

The Reality Of Sins Pain

Because of his foolish decisions, this young man found
himself in a mess. He learned some valuable lessons!

Sin Brings Shame

Here is a Jewish young man who finds himself feeding the
pigs! For a Jewish man to stoop to this level would
mean that he had reached the very bottom of the
barrel of life! He must have been filled with shame!
Those who heard Jesus say this must have been shocked
beyond belief! Those who allow sin to have its way in
their lives always come to shame sooner or later. The
shame of a wasted life! The shame of a wasted youth. The
shame of wasted opportunities. But, worst of all, there is the
shame of a wasted eternity! It is a disgrace to sacrifice your
finances, your fitness and your family on the altar of sin
14
and self-indulgence! What a shame to live that way and
what a shame to die that way! It doesnt have to be! Sadly,
many live like Hell and dont seem to be bothered by it at
all! There will come a day, when they will be ashamed in
His presence. Read 1 John 2:28,
And now, little children, abide in him; that, when he shall
appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him
at his coming,KJV

Sin Brings Suffering

Sin will make you suffer! Did the young man knew that he
will be suffering? No, he didnt! Now here he is, no home, no
help and no hope. No one cares for him at all. He is starving
and would have taken the pigs food if he could have. He is
suffering because of the choices he has made! Sin has not
changed! It always brings suffering, Proverbs. 13:15,
Good understanding giveth favour: but the way of transgressors is
hard. KJV
Many suffer in this life because of the things they lose to
sin, health, wealth, family, etc. But, those who allow sin to
play itself out to its ultimate conclusion find that Hell
is all they have to look forward to at the end of the way!
Friend, dont let that happen to you!

15
Sin Brings Sorrow
In this world no one cares about you! Same with the
young man no one cares whether he lives or dies! He is
alone and lonely. He is hungry and broken. What a sad
shape to be in, but for this young man, it was the first
step in getting him home. Nothing is any sadder than a
life broken by sin. Nothing hurts as badly as seeing a life that
was once filled with potential, dashed to pieces on the cruel rocks of
wicked living. It doesnt have to happen, but you might as
well know now, you will not go into the far country and
come back happy! No one ever wandered off into sin
and came back glad. They all returned broken, defeated
and humbled, if that is what it takes to get you started
toward home, then praise the Lord!

16
A Converted Return
The Prodigal Son did not come home the same way he
left. When he came home, he was a man changed by his
time in the far country

Coming To Senses
Its about time that you come to your senses Jesus is
coming very soon no time to waste, we dont have time to
play religion. We dont have time to please our friends
just like the prodigal son come to your senses the bible
says he came to himself he realised that his entire time in
the far country had been a time of insanity all those
pleasures were the devils toys. He hadnt been thinking
clearly! Now, he remembers how good it had been at
home with the Father.
He remembers that even his fathers servants were in
better shape than he is! Its always a good sign to admire a
true Christians lifestyle! Seeing where you are is always
the first step in getting to another place! Friend, a life
lived in sin is a life of insanity! Why? Because the sinner is
blind to his condition and to his ultimate destination, the
bible says in 2 Corinthians. 4:4.

17
In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which
believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the
image of God, should shine unto them KJV
If the devil came to sinners and said, Now, youre going to
like this sin for a while. Its going to make you feel good! But,
eventually, youre going to die, and when you do, youre going to
burn in Hell forever. he would lose a lot of business! But He
doesnt do that because he is clever and strategic! He tells
people, Its fun and youll love it. There are no consequences!
Youre going to live forever so enjoy yourself. Live it up! and
people go for it. What a nonsense!
The first step in getting out of sin is to realise that you are
in sin in the first place. Read Rom. 3:23. When that is
settled, you will begin to see that Gods servants are
happy. They have hope. They are not trapped in the same
bondage you are in and you will want to be set free! That
is the first step in getting out.

Making Resolutions
What are you waiting for? Its time that you make changes
in your life. Make resolutions about your life. Think about
God and what he can do to your life, the bible says the
young man makes up his mind to go home, he is tired of life
in the far country. He is sick and tired of being sick and

18
tired! He longs for fellowship with the father. He wants to
go where he can be loved, fed and cared for. He wants to
go home!
Even as he makes up his mind to go home, he realises what
he has done! He sees his own unworthiness and he is
willing to go home under any circumstances. He wants to
be out of the far country and go back to the fathers house.
You can see his change in what he says because the bible
says he left home saying Give me! He returns home saying
Make me! Before, he did not want to be under the fathers
authority. What a shame!
Now, the bible says he is willing to be a slave, if that
is what it takes to go back home. I see someone who is
willing to confess his wrongs, repent of his sins and return
to his father. That is where you have to get to before you
will be saved. The Lord accomplishes this through what
we call conviction. He sends that Spirit of God to show
us our sins and reveal our impending judgment, if you
read John 16:7-11. The Spirit shows us where we are. It
takes the blinders off and lets us see our condition, and he
points us to Jesus, who can make all the difference in our
lives. No man is saved apart from the convicting ministry
of the Spirit of God. Read John 6:44.

19
Taking Bold Action
It is easy to read about repentance. It is easy to comment
about repentance. It is easy to be willing to repent. The
question is are you taking actions about it? Remember
change is not change until you change! The bible says the
young man gets up and he heads home. He doesnt know
what will happen when he gets there. He may be rejected.
He may be humiliated. He may even be put to death. At
this point, he does not care! He is tired of the far country
and he is going home! Friend that is what conviction will
do for you!
The Spirit of God will make the blackness and end of sin
so real to you and Jesus will be so glorious to you that you
will do anything to get to Him. You will pay any price.
Stop any sin. Embrace any truth, just to be saved! Do you
remember the feeling of Gods conviction upon your life?
If you are saved, you do! You remember how He hung you
out over Hell and how He pointed you to Jesus. Thats
why you came! If that was not your experience, then
maybe you need to look at your salvation experience
again! I think the greater the sinner, the deeper the
conviction! Read Luke 7:47. Dont let the fact that you
were raised in church and good person cause you to stop
coming to Jesus. Its all about leaving the far country and
coming home. Have you?
20
A Wonderful Reception
Stop thinking about how terrible are your mistakes. Stop
telling yourself and start coming to Jesus he will accept
you as you are. The bible says as this young man headed
home, he did not know what he might find there. What
he found was incredible! He found a father who had been
longing, looking and living for his sons return. He found a
father filled with love, compassion and grace who received
him and loved him back into fellowship. The father
wouldnt even allow the son to finish his little speech. He
just loved him back into a right relationship. Come to
Jesus your father he is waiting for you right now in this
moment!
The Agape Love
The bible says He ran It is considered undignified for a
man to run. It was undignified for God to be hanged on
the cross naked but He did it just for you .Why did this
father run to the son? Read Deut. 21:18-21. God runs to
meet the sinner just to quickly extend mercy and put
away danger! He literally interposes Himself between us
and His wrath, If the neighbours had cast stones, they
would have struck the Father first! That is what the
doctrine of justification is all about! We are given a right
standing with God - Rom. 8:33-34! What a run of love!
21
No matter how many sins you have committed in your life
the fact is youre still Gods valuable property. You are
still His child. You are still subject to change the bible
says the father Kissed him and according to the
department of education the verb kissed is in the
present tense it becomes more interesting because it
means not just one kiss, but continual kissing. This was
the ultimate sign of acceptance by the Father. This is
what will happen when you return to God , God kisses us
back into the heavenly family and you become part of the
true family of God - 1 John 1:9. The Law demanded death,
but grace extended the kiss of love and reconciliation!
Because of forgiving grace, there was a feast instead of a
funeral! Oh! What a kiss of love!

The Generous Restoration

When he came home, he had everything he threw away
restored by the good grace of the Father.

Receiving The Robe of Purity

Sin takes away every precious thing from you. It rips off
your time, your talents, your dreams, your finances and your
family! You will be left with nothing except the rags of
regrets and shame. Now here stands the son in the rags of
his sins. He doesnt look like a child of this father.
22
Because you cant commit sin and still expect to resemble
the image of God. Everything that is sin resembles the
devil! But, the father orders the best of his robes to be
brought and to be put on the son. This robe would cover
all the stains and dirt of the pig pen. This robe would
make him look like the father. Thats why we have to look
like Jesus in purity, action, speech, faith, and love. That
robe served to erase all the visible signs of that young
mans sinful past.
When you come home, you will also receive a robe from
the heavenly Father, read Isa. 61:10; Rev. 7:9-14. this
righteousness is not the righteousness of good works or
of human goodness. No, this is the very righteousness of
Jesus Christ imputed to those who receive Him by faith,
Phil. 3:9! When we are clothed in the righteousness of
Christ, all the pain and the stain of our past is forever
washed away! All the dirt and the filth of a life of sin is
forever washed away from us! And, if you are not very
careful, there are times when the saints of God might be
mistaken for their Father! Certainly, they are viewed by
their Father as though they had never been away from
home at all, read 1 Corinthians. 6:9-11.

Receiving The Ring Of Privileges

When you are the child God you act like one! You act the
part. Remember you have privileges now, when you pray
by faith God hears you. When you face demon situations
23
you have the authority to command and it will leave. As
His Son use your privileges dont be afraid. The bible says
after the robe came the ring. The ring was a symbol of
sonship and authority. The one with the ring could speak
for the Father! The one with the ring had access to all that
belonged to the father! The one with the fathers ring was
in a position of great privilege!
Therefore when youre tired of playing religion come to
Jesus and get privileges because when old, lost sinners
repent of their sins and come home to the Father, they
are given the great privilege of being recognised as His
sons, 1 John 3:1-2. They are given the privilege of speaking
for the Father, Act 1:8. They are allowed access to all
that belongs to the Father as well, Rom. 8:17, Psa. 24:1;
Psa. 50:10. When we come to the Father, He opens the
storehouses of His grace and gives us everything He has!
What a privilege belongs to those who go home to the
Father!

Receiving The Shoes Of Position

It is so embarrassing to spend your shoes on wrong
places! The bible says the father calls for shoes to be
brought for the feet of his son. Only the slaves went
barefoot, sons wore shoes! This young man returned
home desiring to be just a mere hired servant, but the

24
father is determined to recognise his position as a son! In
the young mans eyes, he didnt even deserve to be a slave,
but even lower, even a hired servant. The father, however,
looked at him and said, This is my son! The father alone
determines the position and worth of his children! Let me
remind you today that you are not a no body if you are
saved by grace! We have this idea that we are supposed
to think of ourselves as just old sinners saved by grace.
Well, let me tell you, when you were saved by grace, you
became a child of God! He no longer sees you as a slave or
as a sinner, but he sees you as His darling child, whom He
loves like He loves His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ!
We are right to humble ourselves in His presence, but
lets never forget that if we are saved by grace, that it is
the Father who determines our standing in the family and
not we ourselves! What I am saying is this: Dont let the
devil or the flesh keep you down by telling you that
you are not worthy to be a child of God. If you are
truly saved, you have been accepted by the Father in
Heaven and He has called you His child! Sounds to me
like you are in a special place of privilege!

25
The Heavenly Party
Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of
God over one sinner that repenteth Luke 15:10 KJV
Dont flatter yourself the special gifts are kept for those
who come to God with true repentance! Read Mark 16:17,
Acts 1:8, so was the fatted calf it was kept for special
occasions. The fatted calf was the Father's way of sharing
His joy with all around. Instead of a wasted life, the father
was celebrating a life redeemed and restored! Everything that
was missing in the pig pen was given to him when he
returned home. So it is when a sinner returns home to
God the Father! There is rejoicing in Heaven. There is
rejoicing in the House of God. And, there is rejoicing in
the heart of the redeemed sinner!
Father is waiting to receive you, clean you up, wrap you
in His righteousness and begin the celebration. If you are
not saved you come! If you are saved, how long has it
been since you thanked the Father for the gracious
provision He has given you in Jesus? Maybe you are saved
today, but you are away from the Father. You can come
home too! Wherever this message finds you today, I
challenge you to get before the Lord right now and do
business with Him!

26
I thank The Blood Of Jesus
I know we all learn the hard way in life .Maybe you think
religion will wash away your sins but it will not. Maybe
you think church attendance will do it but it will not.
Even your bible knowledge will not do it! No, no, no!
Only the blood of Jesus Christ can bring change to your
life!
Few years ago in America, Detroit, Michigan, The well-
known evangelist, Charles Finney, at an evening service
preached on the text The blood of Jesus Christ, Gods Son,
cleanses us from all sin 1 John 1:7. After the service a stranger
who was an unbeliever asked Charles Finney to
accompany him to his home. Advised against it by church
members who knew the man, Charles Finney went with
the man anyway.
Along the way not even one word uttered by the stranger.
Leading the preacher into the back of a building, the
stranger locked the door, put the key in his pocket, and
said to Charles Finney, Dont be afraid. Im not going to hurt
you. I just want to ask you few questions. Do you believe what you
preached tonight?
Charles Finney said, I most certainly do
The man continued, Were in the back of a tavern. Im a sole
proprietor. Mothers come in here, lay their babies on the counter,
and beg me not to sell liquor to their husbands. I turn a deaf ear to
27
their cry because Im running a business. And we see to it when a man
leaves here he is well under the influence of alcohol. More than one
night, a man leaving here has been killed by the express at the tracks.
Pastor Finney, tell me, can God forgive a man like me?
Charles Finney replied, I have but one authority, the word of
God which says, the blood of Jesus Christ, Gods Son, cleanseth us
from all sin.
But thats not all, added the man. In another room we run a
gambling place (Casino) if a man doesnt spend all his money on
liquor, we bring him back here and with marked cards we see to it
that he is fleeced out of his last dollar and after that we send him
home penniless broke to his hungry family Pastor Finney, Im a
business man. Tell me honestly can God forgive a man with a heart
like that?
Again Finney replied, I have but one authority, the word of God
which says, the blood of Jesus Christ, Gods Son, cleanseth us from
all sin.
The man spoke again. Thats not all. Across the street is my
home where I live with my wife and little daughter. Neither one has
had a kind word for another for five years. Their bodies bear marks
of my brutal attacks. Pastor Finney, do you think God could forgive
a man with a heart like that?
Charles Finneys head lowered. His eyes filled with tears
as he said, My friend, you have painted one of the darkest terrible
28
pictures I have ever gazed upon, but I still have one authority which
says, the blood of Jesus Christ, cleanseth us from all sin.
The man opened the door, ushered the preacher into the
night, then never left that room till daybreak not before
ripping up decks of cards and pouring all contents of
alcohol down the sink and after he was done cleaning his
tavern with all merchandise in the bin he went home
across the road and sat in his living room. His little girl
called, Daddy Mother says breakfast is ready When he
answered his little girl kindly the little girl ran back to
her mother, Daddy spoke kind to me! Something is the matter!
The mother followed her little girl to the living room. The
man beckoned them both. Taking one on each knee, he
explained to their amazement that they had a new
husband and daddy, He added Im done with that business
across the street! The man later became a member, then an
official in a leading Detroit church. When asked to tell
how his life was changed, he would reply the blood of Jesus
Christ, Gods Son, cleanseth us from all sin

All You Need Is Blood!

If you are asking yourself what can wash away your
mistakes, guilt and past the answer is nothing but the
blood of Jesus! My friend If you are not saved, please turn
loose whatever it is that holds you back and come to
Jesus right now He will change your life, He will change

29
the way you speak, conduct, do business, treat your
family, I mean everything about you will become new!
How wonderful it is to become a new man and a new
woman with a new past and a new future. If you have
never trusted Jesus Christ with His Blood you will see the
power of what the blood of Jesus Christ can do in your
life
His blood can do marvellous things in your life. His blood
can do what the prisons of life cannot do to vicious
criminals. His blood can wash and clean the darkest sins
of your life! My friend I discovered that religion cant
cleanse your sins away, your pastor cant take your sins
away, your priest cant do it, your church attendance
cant do it, your family cant do it, even your wishful
thinking cant do it but only Jesus Christ can wash away
your sins.
You can be forgiven no matter how serious your sin is
because Jesus came to die for sinners. He wouldnt have
had to come and die for the pure because what would be
the point of that? He didnt come to save the saved but He
came to save those who are not saved from their sins. If
you are already saved you dont need to be rescued but if
you are still swimming in the pool of sin you definitely
need to be rescued before you drown!
