I know that it is my job to make sure that everything goes well for the tourists, and I feel I work hard
for the company. I cannot be blamed for last week. I met the group at the airport and took them to the
coach. The coach driver was a bit annoyed because the flight was late. But it wasn't far to the hotel and
everyone was looking forward to their dinner.. We hadn't used the Hotel Riviera before but our normal one
had a conference in it so it was fully booked. When I announced our arrival at the reception desk, they said

Probably the most important factor governing the severity of forest fires is weather. Hot, dry
weather lowers the moisture content of fuels. Once a fire has started, wind is extremely critical

Many of the latest scientific accomplishments fall in the realm of "pure" science. This is research
for the sake of increasing- man's knowledge without concern about how the knowledge is going to

In the past, music was often rich with the cultural part of a civilization. It could provide through
songs and rhythm, an insight into a society. Traditional, folk and classical forms have today been
supplemented by pop, rock and jazz music. In many countries, all these forms have become a part of
everyday life.
Music is, perhaps, the most easily appreciated art form. You don't have to be a musician to know
what you like or don't like, although a musician's knowledge could perhaps distinguish more easily
between good and bad music. But what exactly is good music? What separates music from noise?
For a start, all sounds come from vibrations. Vibrations can be described as movements in the air,
and sounds come from objects which vibrate. So, for example, guitar strings, when touched, vibrate and
make a sound. The human ear cannot detect all sounds, however. Sounds must have certain loudness before
we can notice them. Many animals, however, have better hearing than we do. Dogs, for instance, can hear
much higher frequencies, and bats can hear up to three times better than humans. When listening to a piece
of music, yon may have noticed a dog or cat being disturbed at a particular point that you weren't. This is
because the animal is hearing a frequency that you can't.
But not all sounds are the same. Some sounds, such as music, are pleasant to hear. Other sounds are
not, and these we call noise. The difference between the two is a difficult question to answer.

Today's cars are smaller, safer, cleaner, and more economical than their predecessors, but the
car of the future will be far more pollution-free than those on the road today. Several new types of
automobile engines have already been developed that run on alternative sources of power, such as

Noah Webster's goal in life was to promote the adoption of an American language. He wanted to
free Americans from British English as they had freed themselves from the British crown. To this
end he published a series of three textbooks: a speller in 1783, a grammar in 1784, and a reader in
1785.
Webster objected to the way certain words had been borrowed from other languages but had not
been respelled. The results, he claimed, was a confusing mixture of letters, many of which were not

Uri Geller was born in 1946. When he was only three years old, he was aware that he had an
amazing ability. In 1969 he gave his first public performance in a school. He gently rubbed a spoon
with his fingers, and it began to bend. Three years later he drove a car blindfolded through the
crowded streets of Munich.
In one experiment in the United States, scientists asked Geller to draw objects which were like

Petroleum products, such as gasoline, kerosene, home heating oil, residual fuel oil, and lubrication
oils, come from one source-crude oil found below the earth's surface, as well as under large bodies

England's highest main-line railway station hangs on to life by a thread: deserted and unmanned
since it was officially closed in 1970. Dent, situated high in the-hills of Yorkshire, wakes up on six
