Big Idea: Change Essential Questions:


Why change?
What is the impact of change?
How does change take place?

Objective: I can gather and annotate relevant Standard(s):


information from 1-2 speeches, documents, or court W.11-12.8 Gather relevant information from multiple
authoritative print and digital sources, using advanced
cases that support my cause for change. searches effectively; assess the strengths and limitations of
each source in terms of the task, purpose, and audience;
integrate information into the text selectively to maintain the
flow of ideas, avoiding plagiarism and overreliance on any one
source and following a standard format for citation.
RL.11.1: Cite strong and thorough textual evidence to support
analysis of what the text says explicitly as well as inferences
drawn from the text, including determining where the text
leaves matters uncertain.

Conduct research to locate 1-2 United States speeches, documents, or court case decisions that
could be identified as instrumental to change in society. I will also allow Peer-Reviewed articles.
These documents should reflect the why of your semester project. Create MLA citations &
annotations for these documents as preparation for a literary analysis essay (the next part of
your semester project).

Task: Explain how important life skills are to life.


Purpose: To help establish that without father involvement children will not be able to problem
solve as efficiently.
Audience: My audience is educators.

Families are considered the primary context of childrens development.


Many benefits come out of having both parents.
There are more benefits when having a father in the family.
Research shows that students perform better academically, have fewer discipline
problems, and become more responsible adults when their parents are actively involved in their
learning.
Fathers in the family will allow a person to be more mature and able to
handle problems without so many issues.
There are fewer problems with family involvement.
Research shows that even very young children who have experienced high father
involvement show an increase in curiosity and in problem solving capacity.
Children are able to change tires because they are able to problem solve.
Children without fathers would never learn how to change a tire.
Fathers involvement seems to encourage children's exploration of the world around
them and confidence in their ability to solve problems.
With a father, children would be able to help others with tire problems.
Children would be less likely to go to someone else for solving their
vehicle problems and would be able to do it themselves.

Highly involved fathers also contribute to increased mental dexterity in children,


increased empathy, less stereotyped sexrole beliefs and greater self-control.
Children would be more likely to help others.
the percentage of children living apart from their natural fathers more than doubled,
from 17 percent to 36 percent.
There are many families and children that would not have fathers to
learn from.

With this class, students will be able to have more experience that they may not
have had with their fathers or mothers.

Furthermore, 34 percent of children live absent their biological father.


Health care for father-absent households was $24.2 billion, about 4.7 percent of the
$516 billion the federal government spent in FY 2006 on Medicare, Medicaid, and SCHIP.

With the change of understanding and being able to finance, people will
not have as much debt or be able to get rid of their debt quicker.

Task: Explain how important life skills are to life.


Purpose: To establish the amount of debt people have after college.
Audience: My audience is educators.

The number of consumers age 60 and older with outstanding student loan debt
quadrupled from 2005 to 2015, increasing from about 700,000 to 2.8 million.
People were unable to correctly take care of their debt, thus causing even
more debt.
In addition, a larger share of the population age 60 and older owed student loan debt in
2015 than in 2005.
More people in this century have a harder time controlling their finances.
Older consumers owe a significantly larger amount of student loan debt than they did a
decade ago.
People are not able to take care of their finances, causing even more
financial issues.
The average amount of student loan debt owed by borrowers age 60 and older roughly
doubled from 2005 to 2015, increasing from $12,100 to $23,500.
People are unable to correctly take care of debt, also there may be more
debt now than there was. Meaning their is more need for financial stability.

With the change of understanding and being able to finance, people will
not have as much debt or be able to get rid of their debt quicker.
