Lesson topic: People and places (vocabulary)

Textbook: Pathway to English

Time: 50min

Aim: to develop awareness of safe people and safe places in their life

- Learning objectives (at the end of the lesson students will be able to):

1. to describe different feelings and their responses to feelings

2. to specify the difference between safe and unsafe people and places

3. to identify where and how to access sources of support

Procedures: conversation, debate, dialogue, explanation, exercise

Class management: frontal, individual work, whole class, pair work,

Types of interaction: T-whole class, T-Ss, Ss-T, S-S

Skills: speaking, writing

Materials: board, notebook, handouts, paper

Evaluation: initial through warm up, continuous through activities, observation, error correction, final through both oral and written feedback.

the lesson
Warm up 5 T greets the Ss and asks them how they are doing. T-Ss Board
The T writes the title of the lesson People and places- Safe places and safe people and asks Ss Ss-T
if they know the meaning of the title.
Pre- 15 T brings up the feelings picture and talks about each of the feelings to make sure that Ss T-Ss Board
teaching understand and can identify with each other. HAPPY, SAD, ANGRY, LONELY, SCARED,
EXCITED, WORRIED. Ss-T Notebook
Ss have to give examples of situations when they might feel each of those feelings.
T discusses with Ss how they may feel in the situations mentioned earlier, included, LOVED, Whole class Picture
CARED FOR, LEFT OUT, UNNOTICED, etc. Paper
Ss receive a paper and are asked to draw one of the feelings / emotions discussed onto the paper, Individual
when everyone is done, each S is asked to share her / his feeling mask. work
On- 20 T-Ss Board
teaching Ss are asked to think of people who can help them when they are having sad or worried feelings.
T encourage Ss to think of trusted adults who they know (parent / carer, teacher, brother / sister, Ss-T Notebook
grandfather / grandmother, etc.).
Individual Handout
T tell Ss that if sometimes they are sad or worried they shouldnt choose to be on their own, it is work
important to talk to someone safe about how they feel, rather than making an unsafe choice. Picture
Whole class
Ss are asked to look at their hand, hold their thumb and for each of their fingers they must think
of one person they can go to for help. T shows a handout with a hand and writes the names of
the people on the hand and gives Ss a handout too.

T brings the picture of places and asks Ss to vote on each of the locations: thumbs up if they
think its a safe place, thumbs down if they think its an unsafe place to go if they need help.

When the voting is complete T asks Ss to look again at the pictures and say why they think these
locations are safe / unsafe and what kind of help they think they could get? and if there is
anything that can make any of the places become unsafe at certain times?
Post- 10 Ss are asked to think about how they would tell others the best way to stay safe and what to do T-Ss; Ss-T Notebook
teaching if they were feeling unhappy. Ss can get creative (poster, person shape, advice / reminder) so Individual /
that anyone can see. Pair / group Poster
