Unit Assessment:
The students will be assessed using a 100% scale. The breakdown for scoring will be as
follows:

Participation (Punctuality, Completion, Cooperation during Peer work, Engagement in

class discussions): 10%

Class Work (Do Nows, Anticipation Guides, Exit Slips, In-class handouts): 20%

Writing (Pre-writing activities, Journals, Journal editing): 30%

Found Poetry Summative Assessment (Final journal editing, Transforming Journals

into poems, Presentation, Engagement in discussion after presentations): 40%

I have decided not to assign homework during this unit since a lot of the writing
requires explicit instruction and modeling that students will need assistance with.

Summative Assessment:

Found Poetry Description:

Found Poetry involves taking one or multiple master texts, and pulling powerful,
beautiful quotes / ideas from them and converting these lines into poetry. The poems
are free verse, and therefore flexible to however the students want to write them. Each
poem will be between 8 and 10 lines long. The purpose of the assessment is deeper than
simply summarizing what has been talked about during the unit; the students will use
what they have learned to create something new. Its a writing to learn technique,
which will force students to write introspectively and create poetry that will enlighten
their understanding of their own identity.
