This stage involves analyzing the project site and conducting secondary research. The evaluation will include: (1) introducing the project, aims, and scope; (2) reviewing data, theories, and 3 case studies; (3) analyzing the site location, surroundings, zoning, dimensions, and infrastructure; (4) studying 3 similar existing buildings; and (5) summarizing the site analysis and determining an area and zoning strategy. The deliverable is a set of A1 drawings covering all analyzed aspects.

STAGE 1: CASE STUDY, SECONDARY STUDY & SITE ANALYSIS.
The Evaluation at this stage will include the follows:
1. Project Introduction, Need, Aims, Objectives, Scope and Limitations.
2. Secondary Study: Data, Theory, Standards, Case Studies(minimum 3) 3. Site study & Analysis (i) Relevance of Site Selection (ii) Location & Key Plan (City map showing the site) (iii)Site plan/Land Use Plan (1:400 1:800) showing the surroundings- (Information should be in the form of drawings/ sketches/photographs) Site Details Land Use Reference Master Plan Zoning (Recreational, Industrial, residential, commercial etc.) Neighborhood Analysis- Interrelationship of Site with Neighboring properties / Landuse Natural elements present in the site surroundings (River, rocks, trees etc.) The connectivity to the main road and other sub roads The distances from the major landmarks such as : a. Railway Station b. Airport c. Bus stand d. Shopping centers, etc. Dimensions of Site, Layout Plan including Surrounding Roads, Footpaths, etc Sciography of existing structure, vegetation etc Landscape trees marked in sizes. (ii) Local, Building bye-laws & Area of site, volumetric study of building based on permissible ground coverage, FAR, Setbacks, height restrictions & parking norms. (iii)Environmental Factors of the Site - Climate- Site location, climatic zone, Orientation/ North point , wind direction, humidity, precipitation, Sun Path Analysis preferred views and other relevant parameters as applicable to the project Possible polluting sources in the surrounding. Environmentally sensitive areas in the vicinity. (iv) Topography of the site: In case of contour site following should be shown Plan of site Slope Analysis Site Drainage etc. (v) Type of Soil, Soil Bearing Capacity, Foundation type with measures against Disaster. (vi) Site Services: infrastructure available in & around the site. Water Supply Electricity Lines Drainage & Sewerage Lines Telephone and Cable Lines, etc.
4. Primary Case studies
(xvi) Study of various buildings (minimum 3) of similar nature & magnitude under the following heads. ! Site Plan, Zoning(Area and function), Floor plans ! Geometry & Structure of the building ! Section analysis ! Circulation; Vehicular, Pedestrian & Parking, etc. ! Service ; Areas under various services i.e. Electric , HVAC, Fire Fighting , Building Automation System ! Materials & Fenestration ; Study of Building with respect to climate Pros and Cons in the design Inference & Inputs to be drawn from the all case studies & the comparison to be done with standards and secondary case studies. vii. Area Analysis- Detailed area Programme & requirement based on case studies & standards viii. Summarization of site analysis with reference to case studies & area requirements leading to zoning strategy shown as in bubble diagram. The size of bubbles must relate to the bulk of the building & also show the interrelationship of various activities.
Deliverables for Stage 1:- This will be in form of well composed A1
drawing sheets (max 10 in nos.) covering all aspects as mentioned above. Supporting information/ data may be supplemented on other sheets if necessary.
