To Be Successful or Not To Be Successful? That is the question

The piece of work that I am most proud of is my assignment titled Letter to the Editor. This

assignment was for the students to write a letter to the editor, Jeremy Rifkin, of article A

Change of Heart About Animals, entailing our opinion on whether or not we should have the

same rights or treat animals with as much empathy and respect as we do each other. This

assignment had a total of five grades, with the highest on all of the grading categories being four.

I scored a total of three fours, and two threes. I feel as if the reason that I was so successful on

this is assignment is because it involved a topic I care about more, that being animals. However,

the topic isnt the only thing that pushed my grade on the assignment up. It was my analysis of

the argument being stated and being able to identify the validity of it. Also my focus and

development throughout the letter helped, as I was able to provide convincing evidence while

also staying on track.

Look Whos Growing Up

As I look through all of my previous transcripts and reflect on my past grades leading up until

now, I have a mixture of emotions truthfully. Through my English classes I have maintained a

minimum B+ average, one of my proudest grades as I am a big fan of English. Throughout my

History related classes I have kept up a B- average, although I am not a huge fan of history it

does interest me somewhat. However, we arrive at my Math classes throughout the years and
they have not been the best, as I have barely managed to maintain a C- average up until this year

where I have kept a B in my Math course for 2 semesters. In terms of Electives and Fine Arts, I

have managed to maintain nothing but an A average, I especially thrive in Culinary and

American Sign Language.

There is still so much more I can do

Reflecting on my past grades and transcripts leading up to now, I find so much that I still have

room for growth in. I still see opportunity for growth in course that involve Math and courses

that contain Government issues and Economics. After graduation I would be eighteen, allowing

me to vote in not only presidential elections, but elections within my own city. And Government

has helped me understand the concepts of how polling stations work and so on, which would

allow me continue to grow in learning how to so much more than that and having the hands-on

experience. With Economics, I have learned how the system works from the inside out. And with

the knowledge obtained from Economics, I can continue to grow by utilizing what I have learned

and know when to purchase or sell a product. Last but not least, is Math. There is an extreme

amount of opportunity to grow in Math. As it is in everyday life all the time, in a constant

movement around us. I can continue to grow with it, as it would help me earn a job, get

insurance, do taxes, and so much more.

Thanks for the Help GOHS

Great Oak High School has helped me more than it may ever know. Before I moved here I was

barely getting by, I mean truthfully I had As and Bs coming from my old school but that

obviously wasnt making the cut here at GOHS. I guess it didnt help that school I came from

was one of the failing high schools in our district either. Anyway, this school changed my life for
and Im truly happy that I can say that. The teachers that I have had here, have become an

infinite part of my life, they have been my mentors and some even my friends when I had none

after first moving here. They have helped push me into the right direction into finding out who I

really am and what it is that I want to do in my life. Before moving here and at the beginning of

sophomore year I wanted to be an English Literature major when I went to college, while

dabbling in some culinary on the side. However, when I was actually exposed to a culinary class

at Great Oak it made my passion for culinary grow. My grandmother was always the inspiration

for me wanting to become a chef like her but after she passed during my sophomore year I really

became empty, a blank canvas. I had no passion for anything for a while, that was until I met and

came to know Mrs. Maceyka. She unknowingly helped me find that passion for cooking again

and it came back even stronger than before. But that isnt the only teacher and or class that has

inspired what I want to do in the future. American Sign Language(ASL), has opened my eyes to

an entirely new world full of so much opportunity and experience that I cant help but to dive

further. I can only thank Mrs. Howard for sparking something in myself I didnt know was there,

she has not only been a teacher but a mentor and a friend, and without her leading the way I

would have never fallen in love with ASL. However, she and Mrs. Maceyka have led the way

long enough and with all of the support and help Ive received from the teachers and other

faculty at Great Oak I am now able to lead the way, hoping to inspire future generations as Great

Oak has inspired me. I truly have no idea where I would be right now if I had never crossed

paths with GOHS. Forever engraved in my heart, The Strength of the Wolf is the Pack, and the

Strength of the Pack is the Wolf. I thank you Great Oak, its been a pleasure.
