C. CONCEPTS:
1. Cell division takes place in all types of cells. It produces daughter
cells that carry the exact copy of the DNA (genes) through the
chromosomes of the parent cell.
2. Mitosis is a type of cell division intended for the somatic cells.
Mitotic cell division begins with a diploid (2N) parent cell, and ends
up producing two diploid (2N) identical daughter cells. There are four
stages in mitosis they are:

a. Prophase which begins with the disappearance of nuclear


envelope.
b. Metaphase where chromosomes align in the metaphase plate.
c. Anaphase which separates the double stranded chromosome to
individual chromatid.
d. Telophase which separates the nuclei andcytoplasm of resulting
diploid cells.
D. SKILLS: Summarizing, describing, explaining and differentiating one
phase from the other.

includes techniques that transfer a specific genetic information
from one organism to another.
2. The techniques in genetic engineering are:
a. Recombinant DNA technology is a set of laboratory
techniques for combining genes from different sources
into a single DNA molecule. This technique uses;
1. Restriction enzymes are special bacterial
enzymes use to cut any DNA molecule into
pieces; and
2. Ligase is use to paste the sugar phosphate
together.
b. Ti plasmid is a circular molecule of DNA that possesses
the genes responsible for the tumor can be used to
produce plants with the desired gene.
c. Gene therapy is a method for correcting defective genes
responsible for causing diseases.

C. CONCEPTS:
1. Digestion is the breaking down of food molecules into simpler
ones by the action of digestive systems.
2. The stages of digestion are ingestion, digestion, absorption,
assimilation and egestion.
3. Ingestion starts when food is taken into the mouth where food is
broken into smaller pieces with the aid of saliva.
4. The process of digestion happens in the stomach which is made
up of muscles that churn and help mix the food breaking it into
even smaller pieces.
5. Absorption happens in the small intestine through the fingerlike
protrusions in its wall called villi.
6. Assimilation is the process by which nutrients from foods are
taken into the cells.
7. Egestion is the process by which the undigested food that was
not absorbed by the body are eliminated as feces through the
anus.

It is a board game that is played with token and a die. It is an analogy of the
digestive system. The procedure in playing the game are the following;

1. Choose a token and place the token on the boards starting line.
2. Take turns rolling the die and follow the directions if there is any--- on the space you
land your token.
3. The player who first makes it all the way to the finish line wins the game.
What do the tokens represent?
What do spaces on the board represent?
What do the directions on some of the spaces tell you about the digestive
