Lesson plan- Employment & Economy

TIME: 80 min
Teaching level: Grades 4-5.

DESCRIPTION:

In this lesson students will investigate the basics of employment and


economics as well as the effects one has on the other. Children will
learn about the value of money. They can use money to buy things,
pay for their bills and take care of themselves. In order to get
money, they need to be employed. However, the way they spend
that money also influences the environment.

RELATED SUBJECT AREAS: social studies, general education


classes, language classes.

OBJECTIVE IN DETAIL:

Students will:
- recognize that their spending habits also influence the
environment.
- understand how money circulates.

Methods:
-Discussion
- Group discussion about the rational use of financial resources
- Brainstorming- mindmapping ideas
- Creating a scheme

Materials/tools
-Ipads, internet access, projector, projection screen , papers,
markers, pens.

Activities:

1. Students will work in groups. Every group will create scheme


about money circulation.
2. Every group will present their scheme.
3. Students will discuss the rational and irrational use of money,
and its impact on the environment. Based on their discussion,
they will create a mind-map.
4. Review - each will share one thing they have learned during
this lesson, and one thing they can personally do to improve their
spending habits.
