2 Microwave Site Types and Racks

In Tamin project, the sites will be classified outdoor sites and indoor sites. Shelter is used
in metro indoor sites and GU cabinet is used in hub and cell sites of Karaj, Esfahan,
Shiraz, Kermanshah. GU rack will be used in the hub and cell site of Ahvaz.

2.1 Core Site

Core site has more equipments need to be installed than in metro site, hub site and cell
sites, therefore, more space is required to acquire. Tamin will use the 19 inch rack to
install the microwave IDU parts in the shelter or core room. Based on the RFI, each
region has one core site.

ZTE shelter has huge and flexible space and air-conditioner for equipment, which is
shown in the Figure 2-1.

Figure 2-1 Shelter in core sites and metro sites

19 inch racks dimension is 1600*514*372.8mm(H*W*D). Usually, there are at least 28 U

spaces for microwave IDU. In every core sites three 19 inch racks will be configured. The
19 inch rack is shown in Figure 2-2.

3 Microwave Project Implementation

3.1 Microwave Survey

As for microwave survey, it is vitally important to reach the requirement of LOS.
Antennas should be mounted at the minimum height required for a clear LOS based on
the criteria below.

1. Main antenna 100% of F1 at K=1.333 and 30% of F1 at Kmin.

2. Diversity antenna 60% of F1 at K=1.333.

3. Minimum space diversity antenna separation = 200

16
Microwave LLD Document for Tamin Telecom Network_v2.0
As for the specific LOS method, the methods will be introduced for the path survey to the
document in the two cases, which are shown in next paragraph.

Short distance survey: Observation with naked eye or tools: we can observe the opposite
site with naked eye within one kilometer, sometimes we can use telescope to check the
LOS. If the opposite site can be seen without obstruction, we can consider the link LOS
is good; otherwise, the link LOS is not good, we need to change the route for the purpose
of good LOS.

Longer distance: As for longer distance link, it is not easy to confirm the LOS with naked
eye. We can check the possible obstruction and observe the LOS from the possible
obstruction point to the both sites. We can find the possible obstruction point by the
Pathloss or GoogleEarth software. The section profile is shown below.

In Pathloss software, we can enter the Antenna Height and move the red arrow cursor
to the possible obstruction position to record the coordinate. Then we can go to the
possible recorded obstruction site to check the LOS to both opposite sites, which is
shown in Figure 3-1.

Figure 3-1 Possible obstruction position in the Pathloss .

In the similar way, we can find the possible position in the GoogleEarth software, move
the cursor to the possible obstruction position and record the coordinate. Then go to the
possible recorded obstruction site to observe the opposite sites. The possible obstruction
position in GoogleEarth is shown in Figure 3-2.

17
Microwave LLD Document for Tamin Telecom Network_v2.0
Figure 3-2 Possible obstruction position in the GoogleEarth .

When it comes to the survey tools, usually, we can use the tools such as balloon,
flambeau, telescope, red flag, and so on, to judge the LOS of link..

3.2 Microwave Network Planning

Based on the RFI, when planning the microwave network planning, we must obey the
rules of ITU criteria. The Tamin microwave network planning principles can be seen in
the document of Microwave Engineering Document for Tamin Telecom Network_v2.1.

After finishing the microwave whole network survey, we can get exact finalize microwave
network planning scenario, which include microwave network topology, microwave
network report, microwave link budget report and microwave network link connection for
traffic and element management system..

5.2 Microwave Network IP Planning Principle

NEC PNMS uses the NCT software to plan the IP address. Before planning the IP
address, we need to add the all of network element to the NCT software according to the
network topology. Then we can apply the NCT to plan the software automatically.

In this project, as for the IP address, every IDU needs one IP address. That is to say
every metro end needs four IP address. Each Hub and Cell end needs one IP address.
For example, The Karaj topology has 3 rings. Every metro link needs 4 IP address. It
needs 144 IP addresses. The Topology is shown in Figure 5-2.
