AC340 Accounting Systems I

This is a proctored course. Distance Education Accrediting Commission (DEAC) requires


validation that a student who takes the examination is the same person who enrolled in the
program and that the examination results will reflect the students own knowledge and
competence in accordance with stated learning outcomes.

PROCTORED EXAM INFORMATION:

This course includes a proctored exam in Week 6.


You must register to take your exam using this link.
You may register for and schedule your exam at any time after the course start date.
To take the proctored exam you must:
Have a webcam
Provide valid picture ID to the proctor before the exam starts
Use a computer that will allow a live proctor from ProctorU (a third party) to temporarily take
control of your computer
Test must be scheduled at least 72 hours prior to the time you plan on completing the exam or
there will be a $5 fee paid directly to ProctorU (credit card or debit card only)
Take the exam in a room with no other people, distractions, or interferences

Course Description

This course provides an introduction to accounting information systems. Throughout this course,
students are provided with accounting information system concepts to give them an
understanding of how to analyze and modify systems controls to address threats and risks. The
focus of this course is to gain knowledge of accounting information systems in order to perform
the accounting function in contemporary business organizations.

Course Objectives

Design business processes and represent them with documentation tools


Analyze data to provide insights about business operations and performance
Design and implement industry representative databases which can enable
business processes.
Evaluate internal controls in information systems and design controls to mitigate
risks associated with information systems
Apply analytical and critical thinking skills by utilizing information technology (IT)
and applying IT in analysis and communication
Demonstrate knowledge in designing and implementing a computerized
relational database which retrieve selected data used in business decision making
Analyze and assess internal control weaknesses and fraud. Develop techniques
and systems to monitor, offset and reduce or eliminate the potential for fraudulent
activities
Understanding that the accountants' work and the achievement of learning
objectives requires success in digital environments, students will develop expertise for
that as well.
